Great sounds Luke!, Like the footage but need TCAM footage. Also, I have been comparing some actual real life sounds to that of the game and I must say, Its pretty close!. Just needs to be a tad deeper in the higher rev range then it will be perfect!...GREAT JOB GUYS!!!  AAA+

Actually I'm not so sure it does. The new V6 engines rev to 15,000 RPM but the drivers very rarely use more than 12,000 since peak fuel flow is mandated to be at 10,500rpm, so there's no real power gain above 12,000 because you're just adding more air for the same amount of fuel. I imagine this video was with the auto transmission which will take the revs all the way up before shifting - at least  I hope that's the case, since CM really will have dropped the ball if this aspect of the new cars is ignored entirely and peak power is at the top of the rev band like the old V8s.

@Hatta‌ are Codies looking at a FOM hud?

<stock-cm-answer> "Not at this time but I'll let you know if that changes." </stock-cm-answer>

We've approached FOM about this before. It's not possible right now.

Erm,yeh,ok,so tell us why, stop the bs!

    What BS?

We've asked in the past, and it wasn't possible - that's all I know. I wasn't involved in the discussion.

@hatta,The bs refers to the fact that we ask uou straight questions and we mever get straight answers, not even to smallest of points that we raise, have the answers, but they sit on anything that they no we wont like, right up until the last minute, they use you to drip feed us bs!

You have to understand that some things are simply confidential. I try and tell you guys as much as possible, but there will always be a limit to that.

I was asked if we were looking at a FOM HUD. I confirmed it was something we've tried in the past (via FOM) and that it wasn't possible. As far as I'm aware, it's still not possible. I can't give you a reason to why, other than we ran into issues when asking for it. I don't know anything else, as I mentioned, I wasn't in the meeting(s). I'm sorry if you consider that BS, but right now, it's all I can say.

How about you answer the question every league wants to know, where are dedicated servers and online practice sessions?

Dedicated serves will hopefully be a next-gen thing. Very unlikely to happen on 360 or PS3 now for any title.

It's available for pre-order on Amazon.com right now and it's at a pretty good price.

Got a link? I only see the PS4 version for $49.99, which I thought was about average as far as price goes. No XB1 version, and nothing on amazon.co.uk yet.

There is NO PS4 or XBOX ONE version of F1 2014.  Its only on PS3, XBOX360 and PC.

LOL, don't know how I managed that. >_> I guess my mind has gone new-gen even if CM haven't.

No official race weekend = no purchase from me yet again. The game could have the best race model to date, I don't care if that is so. I can't invest unless I get to participate in a full official race weekend. My race weekends begin on a Friday morning (Thursday Monaco), not a Saturday. This is not an official F1 game in my view.

They keep making their games more and more Arcade like, they got rid of press room interviews, then interviews all together, they removed the immersion feeling in the paddock with the buildings and replaced it with a arcade style menu, they remove 2 practice sessions, they refuse to let the safety car to come out of the first and last laps, they make the damage sensitivity super low so that you have to harpoon a car at full speed just to get damage, they refuse to have engine failures or actual out of fuel where your car stops, they put in super brakes in the runoff areas, and they remove the young drivers test. This just ticks me off, then they say that it's too difficult to add OPTIONAL sim features to the game but have no problems adding super easy mode, shortened career mode, and a lot of arcade features. They keep on appealing to the whinny 10 year old kids but not the people who want a realistic F1 game.

They removed the young driver test because they aren't doing that it real life, they canned it to save money

Not exactly. Limited in-season testing returned this year, with tests taking place after a grand prix weekend, so far at Catalunya and Silverstone. There's plenty of opportunity for teams to run young drivers in these sessions, so there's no real need for a dedicated YDT this year.
As there is no more Young Driver Test, how do we choose our starting team for career mode?
You can now choose from any team you like.
Does anyone have anymore info on this? I guess this means the whole contracts and getting to sign with better teams is gone? If so, that really sucks. It's what I enjoyed about F1 career mode

You'll probably have to meet targets as before, and the bigger teams will have higher expectations. If the upgrade system is once again borked to give the AI fully-upgraded cars from the start while yours is hopeless, then there won't be a lot of point in playing Career mode anyway though.

Here's an example of some modder with a very good ear, re-creating what the engine sound should more or less sound like.

That's very, very good. See CM? That low-end growl that sounds like an engine and not a synthesiser - that's what we want.

    Mmmm....You are quite right.

Like you say, I just hope the engine is up at the top of the rev range in the Hotlap, If its not, then it definitely needs a tweak.

I compared the video to some real footage and although it is very close, Including the turbo whine and release, The real car is more 'throaty' as it were, so just a tad deeper wouldn't go a miss if the above happens to be the case.

Can't wait anyway, Its still good enough for me!...Don't forget, We haven't heard the other engines yet!

    ;-)

Like I said in my first post in the topic, I really hope the engines sound noticeably different.

Anyone else think the turbo sounds way over done? on tv you only ever hear the turbo's in the pitlane usually when exiting, very rarely will u hear the spooling and blow off noise that this game has so much of judging by this video

TV mics are not the way to judge the sound of a car. If you've ever heard the old V8s live compared to on TV you'll know there's a huge amount that gets lost - from what people who have been at the races (not to mention the drivers) have been saying the 2014 cars make lots of turbo noises. High-frequency sounds get lost more since they're the most directional - if you've ever heard bass pumping form somewhere and tried to figure out which way it's coming from, you'll know low-frequency sounds are a lot less so. They've clearly chosen angles that show that turbo noise off more for this, which won't be the one you're driving form. The off-board shots sound pretty similar to TV for the most part, and I've never seen these cars live so I can't comment on the rest. Love the wobbly wing elements though, seems to be a bit more to that than last year if I'm not mistaken.

One thing I'm not so sure on is the down-shift sounds - they were always rather lacking in previous years because they missed that lower-end grumble of the V8s off-throttle, but hopefully this video is with the auto transmission and the sound has some more complexity when shifting manually, and it's not just BOV sound. I also really hope the variation in sound across the three engine manufacturers is replicated - to have them all sound identical would be a real shame and would further the accusation that this is a contract-fulfilling stop-gap and not the fantastic advert for new-look F1 that it could and should be.

It's all very well working on the 'next step in the franchise' behind closed doors, but if you alienate your core fanbase the year before by appearing cynical and guarded then there might not be anyone to sell it to. I know CM don't make anywhere near all the decisions, and a contract is a contract, but information and honesty goes a long way even when the news is bad. Bad news doesn't get better with age, especially when you have to pay £40 to get it.

  12. Since we only get to do FP3 anyway and doing R&D during that session makes no sense, not to mention the fact that the whole 'beat a really slow lap time' method of testing isn't exactly fulfilling anyway, maybe it'd be better if CM just did away with the whole upgrade system in career and just had the cars perform the same as in GP mode, especially if they can't get it right and fair between the player and AI. Hopefully the next-gen engine has been built from the ground up for F1 and all this nonsense will be a thing of the past.

  13. Cockpit always. I'd like more info (lap count, lap timer and/ or delta) so I can turn off the HUD entirely. With the new displays on most of the cars there's the possibility of that, but I'm guessing not until next year.

This is nothing but a pointless gimmick. There is no point in it if we can 1. reset the race or 2. change the difficulty after. I don't want a one lap race where it selects the difficulty for us based on our result, it makes no sense to have one for numerous reasons

If you don't know which difficulty to run the game at - take the evaluation test.

If you know which difficulty to run the game at - feel free to skip it.

Personally, as someone who plays a lot of racing games, I'll go in and adjust the settings to how I like them. But that's me, I'm sure there will be a lot of people that would prefer to run the test and see the game's suggestion.

Not allowing restarts and not allowing players to change difficulty post-evaluation would be awful in my opinion. What if I make a stupid mistake (that I never usually make) and the game sets me on easy. Are you telling me I should spend the rest of eternity playing the game on easy with no way of me changing? No, I should be able to restart and run a clean (and ordinary) lap.

The evaluation test is an option, you do not have to use it.

That sounds much more reasonable. As long as I can get to a menu before I'm on-track I'm happy. As much as I love Forza I can't abide the way it puts you straight into a race with all assists on.

  15. The whole point of this new option is so people don't get bored of playing the game because they are in a bad car they don't want to drive in. I know a lot of people like this feature and for the people that don't, join a lower team like Marussia, Caterham or Sauber and work your way up. What other people do in their career mode doesn't/shouldn't concern you.

Absolutely. More choice can never be a bad thing. It's a lot easier to impose a limit on yourself than it is to get around one that's built into the game.

As this is a feature that would be welcome by the vast majority of their consumers I feel compelled to call out @Hatta‌ to clear up all the myths and misconceptions regarding this matter

FWIW, personally I always find the official graphics rather confusing, and I certainly wouldn't want to be trying to interpret them while driving.

I turn off as much of the HUD as I can get away with anyway - if we could have a lap delta (one that updates every couple of seconds like the real F1 drivers use would be excellent, but at least sector splits) and a lap count on the wheel I wouldn't use it at all.

Thanks (and thanks hammymansell as well) - I didn't click 'Tweets and Replies' so I didn't see that. Not a Twitter user, see. Great news though, time to start thinking about a decision I guess... McLaren is my first thought, seeing as they had a rookie this year.

  19. Personally I hate when games throw me into a race before even getting to a menu. One of the things I enjoy most is choosing exactly where (as in track) and how (as in car and mode) I first try out a new racing game, and not being able to even choose assists, HUD options, audio settings, or anything of the sort before being thrust into a race is just silly IMO. Having the game suggest a difficulty level for you based on that as if it's going to be anywhere near accurate once you choose the assists you actually want to use and get a feel for the handling is ludicrous. I'd really appreciate it if CM made this the first part of Career mode, not the very first thing that happens when starting the game for the first time, so we can at least customise some basic options and maybe jump into a Time Trial or something first.

    @Hatta‌

Are codemasters looking to implement an FOM hud for future titles?

I know I'm not Hatta, but I think I can hazard a pretty good guess at this answer. I would say the answer will probably be no. They've had five years to get the official FOM graphics in the games, and every year they've chosen their own. I think this is probably because their own one can be tailored to how they want it, and I don't know, maybe they don't have as much freedom if they used the one you see on TV.

I don't think they're allowed to use the FOM graphics.

I've just launched the latest build and the LEDs are placed on the (Williams) steering wheel. As far as I'm aware, this isn't set to change. Although I'll let you know if it does.

This makes NO sense. The Red Bull has always had the LED on the cockpit rather than the wheel in your games, why on Earth can't the same be done with the 2014 Williams? Utterly maddening.
