This is what F1 2014 should be like

@HennoGarvie‌  We're talking about more realistic physics here, and having an option to select an "arcade" and "simulation" mode (or something to that effect) to broaden the games appeal. Investing in everything you've mentioned would be fairly pointless when fundamental things with the gameplay such as physics have barely been improved upon. That would be like serving steak and potatoes without the steak.

Thats where driver assists and AI difficulty come into play. If you turn all assists off and activate realistic AI in 2013 how many kids/casuals/mass market players would be able to keep up? For some reason Steve Hood and yourself honestly seem to beleive people will run to the hills if the game possesses any sense of realism or authenticity whatsoever. no reason why Codemasters couldnt implement an "arcade mode" and "simulation mode" either. They wont bother though because they know that hardcore fans are likely to purchase anyway as their license is EXCLUSIVE, which just leaves the naieve casual crowd to suck in and brainwash (who dont know enough about F1 to know better, and are less likely to complain about lack of authenticity or copy and paste games either) Sure two driving models would be ideal. But consider how that would affect the development time. They don't have the luxury of several years of development like other racing games such as rFactor, PCars, GT and Forza. So what's the best that can be done? Compromise to suit both types of player. Every other official F1 title before CM had the license was much the same. A simulation experience takes much more than a year (or around 8 months that they actually have) to give any justice to. I don't for one second think it would be bad for the game to fully replicate the sport and be a full blown simulation. In fact, I'd love it as much as you or any other hardcore fan on here. But I take my mind away from being a player and what I want and try to see things in the big picture. If it can't be done then that's that. It will be interesting to see how the next gen version stacks up since it's had more development time than previous titles. If it's much the same again, then there is indeed a problem. Fair call mate, I guess my biggest gripe with it is while each annual release (take 2012 -> 2013 as an example) could arguably be warranted as DLC worthy instead of a full blown redesigned game, theres no real evidence to suggest Codies are going to put in the sort of investment commensurate of the licenses prestige going forward. 2015 would be the perfect opportunity to implement a "arcade" and "simulation" option into the series as it has become clear theyve thrown all their resources on that game. Sadly though, with their reluctance to implement subtle, immersive, and arguably somewhat superficial things such as career numbers into 2014, the odds are stacked against any logical decision making for the future. I sincerely hope they prove me wrong though, for the benefit of F1 fans worldwide

Double points - on and off?

The fact that they have the audacity to implement a "CAREER mode" but deprive you of the ability to select your CAREER NUMBER or even have your own name on your overalls tells you everything you need to know about potential customisation options for future Codemasters games.  Career numbers has been blamed on: 1. "licensing issues/FOM" 2. they dont feel it will "add anything to the game" 3. "console hardware limitations"
  4. Same. As far as Im concerned they should be topping those games now. If 2015 is not better than GP4 I will be getting a PC and sticking to GP4 for life. The modding community will fight to keep GP4 alive, and do a 10 times better job on their mods that Codemasters do on their full price games. Not to mention the AI in GP4 is exemplary and the physics are very good too. Im almost hoping 2015 is sh!thouse so Codies give me an excuse to get a PC and get back into Geoff Crammonds works of art

    IM SO BAD HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try looking through the corner where you want to go instead of the patch of tarmac immediately at your front wing. The same philosophy applies to skiing, motorbike riding etc... look beyond the apex of the corner

    Remember?

Bet the PR department popped out the bubbly in their air conditioned office after this generic statement was issued. Job well done boys, probably never watched a Grand Prix in their lives
  8. Id start off with simple things as Im already in way over my head with a history of poor form in game design. Id aim to make simple changes to improve authenticity and immersion: 1. FOM presentation, im talking the works... menus, HUD, grid, info graphics, TV replays with full FOM overlays as if it were a real broadcast, pre race video packages of the track and surrounding city/town/villages... basically everything will be made to look like it were done by FOM themselves 2. Career customisation - strike a contract with EA to use "gameface" technology to port your face into the game, and use an online editor to create YOUR number/font/style and colours. Same applys for helmets. This will give the game a personal touch and put you into the drivers seat. Standard generic number styles and helmets can be made standard for those without internet connections 3. Advance the replay system to mimic Geoff Crammonds games, where you can pause and cycle through any camera mount on any car at any time, and incorporate a TV director mode where you can save replays of races you raced in and direct the feed however you want. Would be handy for thise with mics to recor their own commentary over the top and save that with the replay too. After these things id focus on all the fundamental issues with the gameplay, AI, physics, etc

Why can't Codies listen to us

Peel back the 2013 sticker and you'll find one that says 2012

    No Monza 'Hot Lap'???

And for sure these camera angles in these 'hot laps' are the actual replay camera angles from the game.... Great directing with the camera changing every 2 seconds.... what rubbish!! According to guys on here a normal TV directors cut is WAYYY beyond the capability of last gen consoles. Fanboyism at its finest or just pure stupidity from paying customers I cant quite figure it out

    F1 2014 Achievements/Trophies

Codemasters really have us clutching at straws here. Everyone realises they wont attempt to give us anything close to an accurate representation of F1, so we've resorted to complaining about shallow, flacid, and anaemic features such as trophies/acheivements.   ....and still no cigar

    Vacuum cleaners and Kettles!!!!

So do I I thought that too but then I went to the British GP and they had a parade of previous F1 cars before the race. OH MY GOD had I forgotten what we've been missing even from the V8's. Even with just one modern F1 car, the 2012 RBR, it was louder than the entire grid of the 2014 cars. I admit that on TV all that matters is the racing, which has been great, but the new engines mean that the brutality, the edge, the "X-Factor" of  the F1 spectacle is gone. They were even out-louded by the Porsche Supercup cars. BTW if F1 cars had comedy clown horns I would be perfectly fine with that. :) Yeah the old cars aer noisier I know but I've never watched F1 for the noise I've watched it because as I like that kind of racing. Although I've not heard the new cars I do remember the cars that Hill and Schumacher drove weer extremely noisy as I went to Silverstone to watch a quali session once. These days I can't afford to go so make do watching these beasts on TV I went to the australian gp last year and this year and of course the cars sound so different, but standing right next to the exit of turn 11 and 12 (the fast chicane) it was amazing, the sound was really good and the drivers getting sideways on the astroturf was simply stunning, of course the cars sound lame and boring on the tv but the turbo and whistling sound you hear in real life is undescribable.  I was there, they sound completely different trackside than on TV. Every engine had its own sound too, which was much more noticable at the track than on TV. Still, if I had my way we'd be going back to a 3.5L formula with engine manufacturers having the freedom to pick whatever configuration they deem best. I want V12's back in F1

Why can't Codies listen to us

F1 xxxx SHOULD be a 100% accurate sim. Theres no reason why casual gamers should be turned off a realistic representation of F1 with driver aids and AI difficulty present to adjust the difficulty. They dont seem to have any passion for the sport at all, they should feel honoured to bring F1 into the loungerooms of hardcore fans and newcomers alike, unfortunately they seem more preoccupied in making easy money off casual gamers who dont know better and hardcore F1 fans who will buy the game regardless due to our infatuation with the actual sport

    Authentic grid? Mercedes miles ahead?

Ferrari shouldnt be winning period. 2 podiums so far and never looked a threat all season. Williams and RBR should only realistically have a chance if Mercedes suffer reliability setbacks or if their 2 drivers collide with one another. The game is F1 2014, and frankly Codemasters really dont have the right to tamper with history (not that its likely to stop them)
  15. I almost wish Namco were the decelopers, if we're going to get arcade games year on year they might as well be done right

Sochi 'Hot Lap' with Torro Rosso!!!

The only way these "hot laps" could look any more arcade is if they had INSERT COIN/CREDIT(S):0 flashing in the middle of the screen constantly

    Pre-orders??

Why bother replying if this is all you can offer. I'm asking a legit question that should be easy for CM to answer. Because history suggests they wont bother replying, arent bothered by their customers concerns, and couldnt be bothered releasing an F1 game worthy of our hard earned money.

    Authentic grid? Mercedes miles ahead?

This will be a test of trust for Codemasters. If Mercs are 1.5+ sec faster, they will have regained some of our trust, there will be hope for more authenticity going forward. If half the grid are capable of podiums, Codemasters will have proven once and for all that they dont care about the sport and its fans. Ill be watching youtube once its released and if I see any other team winning on raw pace or Mercs being legitimately outqualified ill be outraged. This is your opportunity to win back some trust Codemasters, use it wisely.

    Wheel HUD what it have?

This just proves Codemasters have been drip feeding you people bulldust for the last 4 years. They said they couldnt change the name on the overalls due to licencing, they said career numbers add nothing to the game (with others jumping on the licencing bandwagon saying FOM wont allow it), they said they cant alter any aspect of the cars real world appearance. So explain to me what gives them the freedom to put any generic steering wheel on the car? Why are you allowed to change your helmet (all real driver helmets have sponsors on them) but not pick your own number? How are they allowed to completely butcher the non-alcohol Bahrain Williams livery? They blame all their lazyness on FOM, licencing, or hardware limitations and some people take their pathetic PR crap as gospel
  20. MUZZARIOL

    Pre-orders??

Why bother? They'll struggle to give these games away at this rate

Sochi 'Hot Lap' with Torro Rosso!!!

They cant show us a full T-Cam lap due to "licencing issues", Tilke and Uncle Bernie would have their heads on sticks if the track layout was revealed prior to the inaugural GP. The lack of realistic replay camera angles is apparantly down to "console limitations", despite the fact that TV style replays and camera angles have been the bread and butter of any driving game almost since the DOS days! The games are under developed due to "Codemasters lacking the money and resources of bigger developers", even though theyve charged F1 fans full price for recycled games for 3 years. Basically, according to Codies and their legion of loyal disciples on this forum, everyones to blame but themselves. So hand over your cash people out of sympathy for Codies they need your support

Why can't Codies listen to us

No offence mate not having a dig at you, however those things you mentioned are never likely to happen under Codemasters reign of terror. This is because they market their games to kids, not F1 fans. Thats why seemingly shallow features like podium, formation laps etc would at least go some way towards increasing the immersion without diverging too far from Codies business ethos

F1 2014 New Game Menu and Hud Revealed

You're forgetting shorter seasons in Career (tracks chosen by game).. Get your facts straight before slagging off my beloved Codemasters please. This is the most feature packed, historically correct, child friendly game in the history of Formula 1. Thanks Codies, cant wait to throw my money your way

    Vacuum cleaners and Kettles!!!!

Im sorry, Ive heard the cars at a Grand Prix and Codemasters sound nothing like them, or how they come across on TV. But I agree with the fact that they sound rubbish anyway, and Formula 1 is being systematically torn apart by the powers that run it

F1 2014 New Game Menu and Hud Revealed

^ I doubt Codemasters will take any ideas from the FOM HUD, that would be too sensible and add too much authenticity. They only implement feature that they deem "add to the game"
