  1. Hi Munchy, thanks for your suggestion! The conclusions you come to are not quite correct - the reason you get more points for a 1st place finish in a 20 person lobby vs a 5 person lobby is not because it's a higher percentage finish, but because you are beating more people. Obviously the outcome 'more points in a bigger lobby' is the same, but it's also more unlikely that you will finish 1st in the larger lobby. We have actually reduced this difference with the most recent changes, so it's more viable to race in smaller lobbies now than it was pre-patch 1.12.
  2. What we're hoping to see from this update is a little different. More like going from +10 / -50 to +5 /-15, to use your example (not actual numbers, of course). The ratio of the 'extreme' losses should be more favourable, and that's one of the data points we'll be keeping an eye on to ensure things have changed in the way we expect them to. We are still looking at the other concerns with the system, but we have to be cautious in the way we approach them. I'm sure you can appreciate it would be very easy to overcompensate for one issue or another if we're not careful.
  3. Hi Darren, I'm Luke, a designer who has been working on the improvements to this system. Just to elaborate a little on what @Hoo has been saying - one of the main things this update should do is correct the more extreme changes in skill rating that you see from anomalous races. If you are in a lobby of people of a similar skill rating, and you finish more or less where the system expects you to, the amount you gain or lose should be comparable to what you were seeing before. Maybe both gains and losses will be a bit smaller. However, imagine a lobby where your skill rating is higher than the average. The system expects you to win the race, but you get into an incident at turn 1 and you finish down the field. This is an anomalous result, and prior to this patch a result like that could have wiped out all the gains you had made from the previous 10 normal races and then some. Now, that should no longer be the case. The anomalies will still hurt your rating, but the impact should be far less, which will allow you to continue trending upwards gradually overall, assuming you are performing well in normal races. These changes are informed by the discussion in threads such as these, but also by the metrics that let us look at the bigger picture. We'll be looking at these over the coming days to see how well the impact of these changes match up to our predictions as we consider the next steps.

I've heard good stuff but not got around to watching it yet. GAMERS is pretty fun as long as you like tearing your hair out over increasingly more frustrating romantic misunderstandings

Kill La Kill is a much watch at some point. Took about 3 episodes to click with me but it's an all time favourite of mine now.

I'd love to hear the call between that owner and the insurance company. "And where was the vehicle? ...an off road car park? I see. And do you have the registration number of the vehicle that hit you?"

    DiRTy Gossip

Thanks Paul! By the way in Career can we expect a good amount of stages created by the designers or will it be like DiRT Rally? And can we expect Rally events to have, lets say, 10+ stages (close to the real "deal")? In DiRT Rally we had 12 unique stages that we reversed and cut up into smaller routes. In DiRT 4 we will have hundreds of unique stages.  Your Stage can make a near infinite number of stages because the combinations are so huge.  I'M STILL GONNA LEARN EM ALL!

Yup. As soon as I saw the link I thought "This is probably from Clannad, PMMM or Fullmetal Alchemist". The smart thing FMA did is use that story to show you how dark it could go, but rarely actually went that far. It made you on edge while you were watching without actually depressing you too much. This is where it's stronger than, say, Madoka Magica, because that show just spiraled deeper and deeper into misery without any reprieve. In Fullmetal Alchemist, the moments of horror were used sparingly. So you really felt them when they hit.

Glad you watched Ore Monogatari! Love that one. If you haven't seen Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, that's another high recommend from me. Beyond that I'd say work through that back log. God knows I need to xD

I've seen some of Akame ga Kill, but I stopped after a few episodes. It was a bit too grim for my tastes. I remember my friend watching Yona of the Dawn and he either said it was really good or really terrible. ...not remembering which one probably doesn't help you much, huh? xD

On the Shirobako note I started watching New Game today which... is NOT like Shirobako but for game development. >_< As you can imagine that would probably be right up my alley. Instead, it just seems to be your typical cute girls doing cute things show and the Cute Thing in question here is making a game. The main character somehow got a job as a character designer straight out of high school and she can't even do basic 3D. Grounded in reality this one is not! Kinda fun first episode though.

I'm not certain about English dubs on these, but if you can find them I STRONGLY recommend the following from your list: - Barakamon - Konosuba (probably not dubbed yet, it's still very recent) - Hyouka - Shirobako. I just finished watching Shirobako for the 2nd time today. It's just brilliant. One of my favourite ever anime. It's takes the story of 'anime production' and makes it into a fun yet dramatic show without sacrificing the sense of realism. Even though much of it is still a more idealistic, romanticised version of anime production than is probably realistic, it still feels believable.

A couple of friends and I went to a cinema to watch My Neighbour Totoro recently, and we were pretty impressed with the trailer for Marnie! Will definitely check it out.
