I would like to revise something I pointed out earlier - the gap between a newly created Ferrari-powered MyTeam team (with no media influence on power during the starter interview) and the other Ferrari powered teams appears to be caused by the minor packages that the game gives you at the start of the game: I have since restarted my Honda-powered save and the same-sized gap is present between my team and Red Bull / Alpha Tauri, again complete with minor packages and no media influence. I'd like to apologise for my previous error, I'd only started playing MyTeam mode over the weekend and hadn't noticed these minor packages and the boost they give to your power unit ranking. This wasn't helped by the pre-release statement saying that MyTeam power units "stats and prices" would be unaffected. I took this to mean user engine performance would remain at pre-patch levels while AI would be correctly downgraded, which would result in a disparity between the user and AI, causing the user to have things a bit too easy in comparison to the AI, and the last thing I want is to have a game that's too easy. This also wasn't helped by us having to guess rather than have someone clarify the statement, although I understand it was during the weekend when this all happened so there wasn't really an opportunity. What this does mean, though, is without those minor packages, the engine power between user and AI should be equal and that the menu when you purchase a power unit is more of a cosmetic issue / the amount of money you pay. As far as that goes, my guess is you would still pay more for Ferrari anyway, purely because it's a Ferrari. It doesn't matter how bad it is, the prestige of being associated with them and their history overtakes that. Having said that, do the AI teams receive these minor packages too? I'm guessing these are given to the user at the beginning as a sort of kickstart? And I can see there's a couple left to receive during the season. Assuming this is all correct, I'm guessing there isn't a disparity between user and AI after all. 👍 Again, apologies. tl;dr MyTeam user Ferrari power unit performance is actually equal with AI and therefore correct. Misunderstood something and I apologise profusely for the confusion. Only thing that hasn't been updated is the power unit purchase screen (which is what Codies meant when they said "stats and prices", not performance), nothing deeper than that. Purely cosmetic / how much the power units cost. Everything's fine. Panic over. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Haas started with a Ferrari engine.

Just read the article on the upcoming Performance Patch and it says the following: "The Power Unit stats and prices remain unchanged in My Team, so as not to unfairly change the balance of your experience!" Does this mean that, for instance, all teams using Ferrari engines will remain unchanged, or just your car? Because if it's the latter, then your car could be using old souped-up Ferrari power, whereas Ferrari AI would be midfield and the whole thing would be broken.

This was the point I was originally making:
-
Exactly.

So this is what I'm talking about. Started a new MyTeam save with a Ferrari engine. This is the Power R&D ranking: Season 1, day 1. Piddly little startup team and yet my Ferrari engine is faster than Ferrari themselves. Actually even on par with Mercedes, which is crazy. This needs to be balanced properly. Saying "We're keeping player power units as they are to keep balance" is completely contradictory to what's actually happening. People expected their MyTeam engines to take a hit after the real-life performances that we've had this season. I can't help thinking that the devs' time has been taken up more by eSports, fixing issues and the contractual pressures that come with it. Hence why this took so long to come out, and then done half-heartedly. Edit: Going to link @BarryBL to this. As @tarrantino said, if you want a realistic experience, you can no longer use a Ferrari engine with MyTeam, because it hasn't been balanced with the Ferrari AI.
-
So according to Aarava, the Ferrari AI in MyTeam *is* affected, but player's Ferrari engines won't be. If this is true, then it's really, really stupid. Having a Ferrari engine faster than Ferrari themselves is just plain unrealistic.
-
Yeah, they've said they're not adjusting the Power Unit stats or prices in MyTeam. The thing is whether the Ferrari-powered AI in MyTeam have been changed. If they have, then the Power Units need to be adjusted down for balance's sake.
-
It's live on Steam, no idea abotu PS4 or Xbox.
-
Yep, downloading now. 1.4GB for me on Steam. Hoping Barry does one of his "Deep Dive" articles again for this update.
-
You can't, it's just filler dialogue. Although I believe the data centre is just the place where you look at your laptop.
-
But that's the issue I was raising - if Ferrari's AI is (correctly) slower, but Codies aren't adjusting the Ferrari power unit for the player, then players who have Ferrari as their power unit will be faster than every other Ferrari-powered team, and that is just plain dumb. Think about it - you're this nothing startup team, you shouldn't be faster than Ferrari themselves. It should be a complete performance change for everyone in MyTeam - AI and player - or no change at all, but not half-done because it's going to spoil the game for anyone using Ferrari. I'm annoyed because I've started a save and was working up to having a Ferrari engine, and if this is true, I might as well give up playing it. They say it's so the balance isn't spoilt for the player but the message is so vague I have no idea what any of it means anymore.

Well there's Driver Career aswell, and that's fine (I've been waiting for over a month to restart my driver career save with the new performance levels). But I'm struggling to figure if with MyTeam it's AI & player = not nerfed - or - AI nerfed/player not nerfed. The second one, as far as Ferrari engines go, would be a mess. Ideally, the performance changes should have been applied everywhere and people could choose whether it affected existing saves or not. @BarryBL could we have some clarification on MyTeam AI/player balance with the Performance Patch please?
-
I was thinking that exactly. At least we can agree on something!
-
I didn't take it as being about existing saves, I took it as even starting a new save, you could have difference Ferrari engine performance compared to Ferrari themselves, because they're only indicating "prices and stats" i.e. only your team is unaffected.
-
I didn't take it as being about existing saves or not, I took it as even starting a new save, you could have unaffected Ferrari engine performance compared to Ferrari themselves who have been nerfed. The way they word things really doesn't help.
-
My concern immediately was whether the AI in MyTeam would get the same nerf as everywhere else as it just points to "stats and prices", which I took that it's only indicating the performance for YOUR team in MyTeam. For instance, if you remain unchanged with a Ferrari engine, but the Ferrari AI gets nerfed, it's going to be so broken. I don't know if MyTeam AI uses the MyTeam Ferrari/Renault/Mercedes/Honda performance files or if they use the standard AI performance files. I really hope I'm wrong and I've misread.
-
What I was concerned about is it's pointing to PU "stats and prices" - that seems like it's only for our benefit, whereas the AI would get the nerfs. For anyone playing with a Ferrari PU, they would end up being faster than Ferrari themselves and that would be so wrong. Edit: Because when you look in the folder system, you have the AI team folders, and MyTeam engine folders. If they've not touched the MyTeam engine folders, would I be right in assuming the above? Or does MyTeam AI take their performance from the MyTeam engine folders too? In which case, the AI would be on old performance levels as you would be.

Nah, in my excitement (I thought it was announcing the patch was out now) and my eyes jumped to "19th October".
-
I have no idea, I've asked this myself in this thread:
-
Hmm, ok. I took it the wrong way, as have many others on Twitter.

It's coming Monday: https://www.formula1game.com/2020/news/f1-2020-performance-update-sneak-peek

This was posted Monday in another thread, I'm assuming many of you haven't seen it:

As far as team performance is concerned, it has to be remembered the impact COVID has had on development. Test sessions in February and then nothing for 5 months, they've had nothing to go on, and now it's been the task of collecting as much accurate data as possible over the races that have occurred to make sure the teams are performing at a regular level and that no dips or peaks are blip events. For example, Renault have improved over the past few races, so they now may have to reconsider their standing slightly. In the past, the performance patch has usually come around October-November anyway, things haven't really changed in that respect. In my case, I haven't played the game in over a month because it was off-putting to have Ferrari winning things, and then it's announced that a Performance Patch is in the works. Immediately, the psychological effect of that is to stop playing until the patch is out, because otherwise "there's no point". It's like the game suddenly feels out of date, specifically due to the dramatic slump of one major team.

Which would probably explain the delay. @BarryBL said they wanted to squeeze a few more fixes in. If they hadn't, there would be people complaining "Why didn't you fix this?" They can't win, really.
