People get riled up because it's incredibly obvious to everyone except the devs.

It does! I find it fun to plan how to use the engine components over the season, prioritizing new PUs for certain tracks etc. At least it used to be so that the teams could use/change whatever components they wanted through FP 1 & 2, but from FP3 onward they have to use the same components or take a penalty. I believe it still is that way. Hence, the PUs of the early season races become "practice engines" for later on. Some teams make plans already in pre-season to run some extra components at some point and take a penalty for it. Red Bull is a good example from past years.

Marshals, cranes.. To me it sounds like an unnecessary FPS drop.
-
I do, always. In the menus it will show "pending" but once you hit the track in FP3 you will have the new components.

7 in the top 10 running with assists doesn't feel quite right to me. At least they get minus points in this mode.

Exactly. I think those colour bars depend on the livery selected, but I could be wrong.

Now that the multiplayer car is also available in Time Trial, we're wondering whether we should use them for the next season of our league. There is one question that bothers people, however. How are pit crews assigned with MP cars? How do you know who is your team mate, and whether you end up waiting for someone else to be serviced first?
-
Yeah, 50% Austria. The game will always leave the last two laps of a race for racing. So, the SC at that point only stayed out for 1 lap.
-
Is there a maximum number for SC deployments per race? For some reason I'd always thought 2 was the maximum, but I just came off an online race with 3 SCs, the last one coming out on lap 33/36.

I guess the most common thing is to separately keep track of points and results on a message board such as this, or a discord channel for example. The race sessions are in regular unranked invite-only lobbies. I've tried it multiple times, but I don't see much of a logic to adhere to. Sometimes there are pit slots available but I end up having to wait behind another car, because the car is question appears to be a team mate. Right now I don't see a way of distinguishing a team mate before pitting and getting held up. So the question is whether it's possible to do so somehow that I'm not aware of, or is there simply no way of knowing?

Most leagues don't use the in-game league option because it has a history of being glitchy and unreliable.

Multiplayer car v equal performance car v grand Prix car
janbonator replied to Sikazmuk's topic in F1 Chat
For me the MP car feels superior simply because of the driving view. It has the best cockpit out of the entire bunch. I don't think I'll ever touch the Merc again in TT. -
I would like them to allow unlapping, but it needs to be done right. The cars need to ghost while doing that. Safety Cars are a guaranteed wreck-fest in random online lobbies as it is, and unlapping would only make it worse. For 25% races I don't think it's a good idea at all, because it will prolong the SC period, which can already take a quarter of the race (for a single SC). As you noticed in the Formula 1 rules, unlapping is not compulsory. The Race Director may allow them to unlap, and usually they do because it's safer. In the virtual, nothing is as unsafe as driving behind the SC unless it's a league race.

No one knows how the game works in this regard? @BarryBL ?

Few things to note: Grosjean and Räikkönen drove with a damaged car from lap 1. Stroll's pace in this chart was affected by him not running with new softs and a light fuel load at the end because of his crash.

They are referring to the full HUD with the ERS bars, rev counter, throttle and brake application etc. I can't even describe how happy I'm to have it back. Thanks! Now, please never remove it again.

"- The Multi-Function Display (MFD) can now be enabled in Cockpit view. " Is this referring to the entire HUD? I mean, the MFD was always there in Cockpit, but the HUD has been gone for over 3 years.

with developers Same lap time sorted by name

That solves the mystery. I wondered why I got a pole even though I set my time later in the session than the driver I drove identical times with. -
I've been waiting for one as well. Last year there was an esports qualifier in wet Suzuka with Kimi's Alpha. A bit of a different thing than a normal Weekly Event with qualifying and all, but I really enjoyed it.

This year the weather forecasts seem to be off by so much that it must be a design choice. Sometimes the pre-race forecasts give three drops of rain for the entire race, but it doesn't rain all race. Other times it can show an overcast dry weather but it rains all race. There must be some probabilities in this randomness. Do they change on track-by-track basis? Will an overcast Spa have a higher probability for rain than overcast Melbourne?

- Fast, sweeping corners - Relatively narrow track - Loved by all drivers - No asphalt run-offs - No ultra slow acute-angle corners - Not designed by Tilke Of course it's not in the calendar. If someone paid Tilke to design a stadium section that looks like a rally-cross track, plus built a 100 million worth of pit facilities, and bribed some FOM/FIA officials, we might just see it in the calendar.

I've got more drive-throughs for speeding under the VSC in this game than the last 3 combined. The delta behaves very oddly in my opinion. Pretty much have to floor it on the straights and sometimes come to a full stop on track in tight corners. The only button you can use for the purpose is the "options" button, and let the AI drive. It's forbidden in many leagues though.

You could be right. It just doesn't make much sense to me. "Balanced" allocation gives 3 softs and one medium for qualifying, plus a new set of softs, mediums and hards for the race. "Softest" gives 4 softs for qualifying, plus a new set of mediums and hards for the race. Looks to me like "balanced" gives one more tyre set compared to "softest".
-
I've been a bit confused about the tire regulations myself, actually. My question concerns the short qualifying format though. If I choose the softest tyre allocation for the weekend, I get 4 sets of softs for the qualifying. If I use all of them, I don't have a new set for the race. Why?

The weird thing is I was just looking through old screenshots when I noticed that F1 2016 still had the HUD in cockpit view. Why would they remove it? WHY?
