  1. I don't think we had a proper 2019 rallycross thread on the old forum, did we? With more news coming about the forthcoming World and GRC Europe Championships, I thought I'd start a thread up for all the 2019 rallycross Championships. Just seen the news that GRX have confirmed three cars for the World Championship in 2019: http://www.fiaworldrallycross.com/article/10226/grx-taneco-launches-three-driver-programme Full season for Gronholm and Timerzyanov with select drives for Nitiss.
  2. They aren't spaceframes, they are based on a road car chassis (like the Supercars). All the electric running gear is from STARD and they sell the whole lot as a kit that can be dropped straight into a Supercar or R5 shell. The C3 was prepared by Citroen Racing, so it is my assumption that they based it on an R5 C3 shell.
  3. Very glad that we have Ekstrom this year. The PSRXVW Polo and EKS S1 are two of my favourites of the WRX-era and I am thoroughly enjoying seeing Johan and Mattias going head-to-head in those cars. Real shame not see Niclas closer, though he does seem to be emerging as the "best of the rest" now. Interesting to see tidier driving from Bakkerud and Doran this weekend. Compared to previous weekends there seemed to be less mechanical failures for the GCK Meganes as well. Still a long way from trouble free, but I hope they continue to improve as it could be an encouraging sign for 2021. Fingers crossed the damage to the Bakkerud car is fixable before the next round as well (I have read a comment from GCK on FB saying they should have it done), that was a very big smash. I wasn't sure if it was the driver or car setup (or perhaps both), but I thought the electric C3 looked far better than the Fiesta. Raymond seemed to be chucking it around like a "normal" Supercar and it looked a lot more controllable on the limit.

    Further to the points above I would definitely refer to the rallycross AI as "inconsistent" rather than "broken". On some circuits it works really well, but on others it seems - as has already been said - to be all over the place. I wasn't expecting it to be fixed with DR2.0, but I really hope that it something that is addressed in future DR titles.

    Yeah, I agree. The reliability upgrades make sense, but I think the mileage dependent performance upgrades are daft.

    I have got a lot fonder of the 6R4 after driving it in the latter McRae challenges, it might not be the fastest car in class, but I find it one of the easiest Group B cars to drive on the limit.
  9. CV19 I assume. They are talking about running a double round at Barcelona instead, so at least the Championship will still comprise the same number of rounds.

  13. Not WorldRX, but the Supercar final from the first round of the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden on Monday: Great race, definitely one of the best Supercar finals I have watched at Lydden recently.

The shock absorbers will be replaced and a new engine will be installed. Naturally, the team will do everything they can to make the car go faster.” GCK team boss Stéphane Orre told DirtFish “Kevin joined us throughout the winter and has been working with the team on developing the car, gathering data and working with the engineers to optimize it,” So Abbring is back to try and address all the problems he was supposed to have fixed in the Winter.
  17. Looking at the results for the weekend, that doesn't seem to have worked out as they planned... ...I'd be mortified if I was a FORS mechanic. The failure rate of the cars is appalling. Despite all the claims the Clios look no better and the Meganes are going backwards. Real shame to see Ekstrom and Larsson drop out on Saturday, but some good racing in the rain today and a fantastic drive from Niclas in the final.

  19. Yeah. Kevin Abbring and Philippe Maloigne were originally announced to contest the Euros in a Clio, that plan was later revised to a Euro campaign for Maloigne and select World appearances for Abbring. Philippe wasn't on the entry for Holjes, so I wonder if the plan has changed and/or budget has fallen through. The Marklund car is the only one of the Meganes that has looked consistently competitive in the last year and the less said about the Clios the better. Raymond and De Ridder had a wasted season last year (in my opinion), so maybe it is better for Maloigne and Abbring if they end up driving for other teams this year.

    Project Cars 3 for Global Civilisation

    I am not too worried at the moment, as I'd like to think the powers that be at Codemasters will have seen how the previous incarnations of the DiRT series (and the differing approaches taken by each) have been received. They have already declared what directions the DiRT teams are heading in, and the fact that there are two teams makes me hopeful that the DR series is going to remain sim-orientated. The only thing I can seeing potentially being a factor is the WRC license. Is there an expectation that a licensed WRC game needs to be more accessible? Even if that is the case though, hopefully the underlying game will be sim-based (and will we get another DR game between now and the next CM WRC title?)
  21. Definitely agree. As much as I want them to have a poor year, I was surprised at just how out of the mix the Hansen brothers were. I hope GRX have a better weekend in Finland. Finland also could be interesting as I think less than half the field have driven there before. I don't have much confidence in GFORS and this weekend reinforced that belief. Despite all the claims of improvements over the (extended) off season the Clios still look well off the pace: though at least they didn't break as much as the Megane...

  23. I thought it is interesting to see how good Szabo was in the i20. Szabo had hugely impressed me when he made his Supercar debut in an older specification Audi (at Loheac), but I thought he was disappointing in the later specification car last year. I think that later specification car requires a very specific driving style and neither he nor Liam Doran mastered it. I wasn't able to watch the qualifiers during the day, but caught up on all the broadcasts in the evenings. Good to see all the classes getting such comprehensive coverage. Shame that they couldn't get a couple more electric cars for the inaugural round, as I think a full grid would have made it more watchable. The cars looked a real handful in the wet, but the times appeared to come down on Sunday and the drivers looked like they were wrestling with the cars less. Going to be interesting to see how the Projekt E cars develop over the season (and how quickly they can close the gap to the traditional Supercars). I was gutted for Bryntesson yesterday as I think he is real a European title contender this year. The level at the top of the Euros looks very high, Evjen and the Dubourgs all recorded some blinding times. I wonder if Eriksson will be back for another round (or two)? Absolutely astonishing drive from Johan. I'd like to think his performance this weekend might silence those who still claim his success in '17/'18 was largely thanks to the car. I hope Ekstrom manages to rearrange his plans (and find the budget!) for a full season campaign, as it would be superb to see those two fight it out this year. Glad to see Bakkerud find more speed yesterday, but what a miserable weekend for Liam. Just a brief flash of pace yesterday then the car crapped itself. Disappointing weekend for Gronholm, I really hoped to see him and Johan fighting up front, but Niclas seemed to spend most of yesterday looking at the back of a Seat. NB: Anyone watch the "Aftertrack" thing last night? Great idea, but horrible execution. I'd really enjoy a post-race debrief show with a bit of technical insight: that wasn't it!
  24. 100% agree: I don't think TV will ever be able to convey how violent the cars are (especially on launch).
  25. Good first round. Terrible start for RX Cartel, but an impressive run from Johan and a very mature drive from Larsson. If he carries on like that I think he has real title potential. Team Hansen and GRX cars not looking as competitive as I expected. I hope Gronholm has a better day today. Projekt E laps times weren't that far off in practice (about a second and a half slower), but all three drivers seemed to be having trouble being consistent. It must be a very different driving experience. Yeah, strange without spectators. Was odd watching the RallyX Nordic rounds without crowds, but it seems even more noticeable with the World round.
