DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I think I was happy with all the locations although in hindsight I'd have probably made the Welsh stages a bit longer.Car wise I think we managed to fix the Pikes Peak cars as best as we could in the final update but the Rallycross Tyre was just plain wrong and I'm glad we've managed to fix that for D4 now.  I cannot wait to get my hands on the rallycross Supercars now the handling has been revised... ...and I really, really, can't wait to take a Group B rallycross car for a spin!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

As brilliant as it is to see @KickUp answering so many questions, I can't help but think the game would already be finished if he wasn't spending so much time on the forum...  :D

    2020 FIA World Rally Championship

With VW out, having M-Sport leading the manufacturers standings doesn't that surprising, but seeing a Toyota on top of the standings is a bit of a shock!  Thus far it really feels like the hype for 2017 was worth it, I really hope the rest of the season continues to deliver like this!

Well I absolutely eat my words when it comes to the Yaris! I wasn't expecting the Toyota to even approach the podium in the first half of the season, let alone take a win!  The Fiesta continues to look the most delicate of the new cars and Neuville is surely going to be the one to beat: if he can keep it on the road!

This is properly cool, wish there was more testing in my neck of the woods!

Yeah, it's still early days - and the conditions of both Monte and Sweden make it hard to gauge anything - but Neuville is certainly the early season favourite at the moment.  I too was hoping that Meeke would fare better this weekend. Gutted to see him tumble down the standings again.

Looks like he has made it to the end: 8:39 dropped though, now down to 10th overall.  Tanak now closed to within 4 seconds of Latvala. Good time from Ogier in SS14 as well. Possibility of a M-Sport 2/3?

    2020 FIA World Rally Championship

Just seen some figures for the stages in Sweden: SS9 average speed for Tanak was 85 MPH SS10 average speed for Tanak was 73.5 MPH That's a hell of a difference: SS9 (Knon) was to be used again for SS12, that's why SS12 was cancelled. Knon is going to need a few more chicanes if it is to be used again next year, even the slowest cars through were averaging over 60 MPH!

Anyone who looked into the Monte incident will realize that it had nothing to do with the cars, but news headlines tend not to include such details! Another incident at this stage wouldn't do the new cars any favours at all.

I would assume that the maximum average speed allowed is based on each individual rally. They must have expected an increase this year, though perhaps they have underestimated just how much. Got to wonder if the organizers are nervous after the fatality on the Monte as well.

They are partially, if not fully, carbon fiber @versedi. I suspect the latter, as fully carbon fiber structures can be quite brittle, however if you lay CF over fibreglass, you get the best of both worlds.  Probably a statement of the obvious, but I would image M-Sport would have been very keen to get the broken spoiler back to see where it failed. With the cars producing so much more downforce this year, the structural loading will of course increase as well.  Tanak and Ogier take first and second respectively in SS9 this morning!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

It's a fair question, though I wonder at what cost the inclusion of the Polo would come at... and whether it would be worth it to add a car in a class of it's own.

Im in love with the sound.  Looks?  Hey, im not that shallow, its the personality that counts.  ;)  It looks like a shoebox, but it sounds superb, so I can forgive the aesthetics!

Pleasantly surprised by the pace of the Toyota: as a car that many (including myself!) thought was underdeveloped, it doesn't seem to be lacking pace in the snow.  Six stages in and it's looking close at the front: great stuff!

Get to Lydden if you can: last time the World Rallycross is going to be there for the foreseeable future, so it's definitely going to be worth it. Got four World Rallycross rounds planned for this year, couple of British Rallycross Championship rounds, Blancpain and British GT at Brands, plus hopefully some motocross and grasstrack as well!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

The render looks pretty good! Great news to have Prodrive involved with rallycross again, I have high hopes they can produce a decent car. Chicherit as the lead driver though? Not that encouraging, hopefully they can find someone with a bit more experience for the second car.  Look forward to seeing the car debut in Loheac!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

How does it compare to 'still too fast to race'? Got it on my wish list right now,but can't get riding balls of fire here :( I personally wasn't a big fan of "Too Fast to Race" or "Still Too Fast to Race" (I didn't like how they were edited) so, for me, it was much better than those two.  You can download "Riding Balls of Fire" from Duke video if you are in a country they won't post too!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Not strictly DiRT/fuzzynut gossip, but if anyone is looking for ways to kill the time between now and the release of DiRT 4, I'd recommend giving this a look... ...it's put together by the same guy who did the (rather excellent) "Evolution of Rally" films and it's got quite a few clips I haven't seen before. Good mix of music and raw audio car clips, plus it's quite honest about the good - and bad - points of the era. Far less sensationalized than "Madness on Wheels" which came out a few years ago as well.  NB: And the disc menu just has raw car audio on repeat: I left the menu on after the disc finished for much longer than I should have!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I agree. With an unlimited budget and development resources it would be great for CM to be able to chase down and model every last rare and unusual rally car for the game but, as an unlimited budget and resources are not available, I would prefer to see them concentrate on the "common" cars first.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

The McRae Enduro project was completely separate to the McRae R4, there was a different engineering team behind the cars. The Enduro was associated with Alastair, not Colin, McRae.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I always hoped the R4 project would carry on after McRae passed away but, sadly, it never happened. Shame, as I can think of no better tribute then seeing his "own" car on stage. As far as I'm aware only one car was ever finished (R400 CMR). I saw the car running at Goodwood in '07, then again (on static display) at numerous car shows in the months after his death. I daresay it was an acquired taste, but I thought it looked brilliant.  In terms of licensing I assume it would be from the McRae family themselves. The car was SVA'd as a McRae R4, so "he" was the manufacturer. Perhaps DJM retained the rights to the design though.  NB: Very loose connection to DiRT 4, but I recall there being talk that Petter Solberg had his name attached to the first customer car.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I find it fascinating how little actual footage emerged after the event. There's some of Petter and Meeke and the official footage as well. Most of the youtube footage seems to be from the Erased Citizens folks. Was having too much fun ;) ^ That!  Neither the controller or wheel gaming setups had anywhere suitable to balance a camera/phone, so you really needed a second person to film you.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I was playing with all aids (except ABS) off. I haven't seen any footage yet, but someone was recording over my shoulder for a few minutes (pretty sure I managed to keep it out of the bushes most of that time as well). Hopefully that might emerge at some point!
