The default at the London event seemed to be "normal", so I suspect that's what a lot of people were playing with: first thing I did was go and switch to "sim"

I heard on the grapevine that he was trying to beat a time set by @SirPhilMcKraken again. -
I don't know, you guys have some interesting cars right? I could even wear a bikini. Be right back: waits for @tbtstt to return with his one remaining good eye... Holy crap, I thought this was just a gross photoshop until I remembered what this actually was. What a weird music video. And crappy song. OH GOD. IT'S BACK AGAIN. That's pages 634 and 745 of the DiRTy Gossip thread that I'll never be visiting again...

Most of my comments and input on here are an attempt to re create the nostalgia of those golden days, perhaps I am asking too much. I think we are both under the influence of the period of rally we grew up with: for me nothing will top the turbo'd Group A era, for you its Group 4! whats this ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cREEx-6zX_s Will watch that later and see if I managed to successfully evade the camera!

Nothing like standing in a wet field, waiting for first car due, and hearing the faint crack of anti-lag breaking the silence, from 2 miles away.... I agree with this so much that I clicked "agree", then unclicked it, just so I could click it again.

Personally i would turn it up more in forest stages, especially antilag and backfires could bumped, but thats MY opinion. Everything is better with more antilag. Fact. I think turbos should be banned. All cars should be NA with webers/solex/mikunis instead. The world would be a better place. For me. Not the climate. As much as I love the sound of a good NA engine, turbos provide us with the sweet sound of both anti-lag and turbo flutter, so I am afraid I have to protest at your ban.

Flagged for Impreza spelling error.

Funny reversal in situation: last year Volkswagen were crying about other manufacturers only partially running the Championship! -
Nomenclature debate is a speciality of the DiRTy Gossip thread, of course it was going to get debated!

Perhaps. The Delta S4 and Peugeot 205 T16 were the best cars of the era in real life though, so I would still expect them to be the quickest cars in class in game. Be nice to see the E2 get the Codemasters treatment though: a correct visual representation and the proper audio to go with it. Something that Polyphony seemingly couldn't figure out...

I was pondering this last night: I joked about the "S1 E2" error when the initial press release came out, but it didn't occur to me that, if hillclimb isn't returning, that must mean the E2 will be the Audi in the Group B class? Perhaps @KickUp can confirm if that's correct? Going to miss the S1 if that's the case (I personally think it's a better looking car), but everyone does love the E2 aero... One of the Group B cars was said to be getting an "overhaul". Ah, I missed that! In which case we could have our answer!

As said by @KevM, M-Sport seem pretty competent at churning out cars for paying customers: it's what funds the main WRC program after all! -
Nothing planned yet. Maybe I'll be able to sleep ;) No time for that: you'll have to DLC to get started on...

Can't wait for Sweden. More 2017 specification cars in the mix, going to be really interesting to see how Ostberg fares in the Fiesta. -
Unless something has changed, I believe both the Super 1600 and Lites will be in DiRT 4 @RodgerDavies. Perhaps @KickUp can confirm that. Evo IX wasn't in DiRT Rally? Applying the "N" classification is tricky now Prodrive are no longer building cars, their last few revisions were not annual and the latest car is for a different regulation. The R4 Impreza in DiRT Rally would have been an N14/N15 or N16, therefore N17 sort of applies for the new NR4 car. At this stage though, I think the "N" moniker can be dropped.

Do you mean the.... Quattro E2? *trollface* +1 points for @Dytut. @warpengage, go and sit on the naughty step.

I build these engines for a living, red line is 7500 stock, and depending on turbo, als setup, etc... they will make power out past 10,500rpm. Hell, my turbo doesn't even spool till 4300. You build Evo X R4 engines for a living? Hmm, weird. I've seen and heard lots of Evo X R4's in real life and it's quite clear that they're not revving nearly as much as in DiRT Rally. Take a look at this video for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yEyEiO5lEw The Evo X R4 should be driven with torque due to the nature of its engine in R4 spec. I know that there are some hill climb and rallycross Evo X's that easily rev over 7500rpm, but that's due to completely different rules. But watching that video you can quite clearly see how "wrong" the Evo X is in DiRT Rally so that's why I hope it would be more accurate in DiRT 4 :) I see what you're saying, they are just driving it like that to keep it in the torque band... look at the actual Rev meter in the middle, running about halfish.... And I'll be running some races in a bit, but I felt the Evo would drive like this in the game too, I'll check. Yeah I see :) So maybe there should be a lot less torque than there currently is after 5500rpm, so we would actually need to drive like in that video to be quick? That's what I meant with a more accurate torque curve, because I feel like the Evo X revs way too easily to that 7500rpm point... I might be wrong though, you seem to have a lot more experience with those cars in real life. Our auto boxes now shift at peak torque. I actually noticed the Subaru on show on Thursday was shifting at quite low RPM, wasn't redlining at all but that was probably down to the setup plus not release build :) This is on purpose. The car has lower torque so it needs to short shift to maintain power. Some of the cars in Rally had the same setup. Even so, just felt like it was wasting more time changing gears this way and it didn't help shifting down to aid braking either I don't know if you noticed it @SirPhilMcKraken but (sort of related) I noticed an additional option relating to braking in the options menu. I can't recall the exact wording, but it was related to brake effectiveness: my assumption was that the effectiveness of engine braking for cars running ALS is now another factor that is being accounted for.

Yeah. I would personally rather see the Evo VI left in the Group A class in D4. Great that CM have got one of the missing icons of the Group A period in the game though! I would rather have the Evo IV pitted against the 95 Impreza and the rest of the group A's. And the GC8 Impreza against the Evo VI ;) I love that D4 will support multi class rallies. Another thing we wished for during EA :) For me the perfect combination would be an Evo III in the Group A class and then an "early WRC" class with the Evo 6.5 and the S5 Impreza WRCar... ...realistically I wouldn't expect CM to commit resources to developing another Evo (and Impreza) just a couple of years away from those already in game. I'm just glad that an early Evo is in there now, fingers crossed that the reception for the game will be so positive the ranks of cars may swell further down the line! It would be a very nice nod to the original CMR to have the early Impreza WRC though. And many many people love that car. Such an iconic machine that captured so many people :) I certainly won't disagree with you there! I would actually argue that the S4/S5 Impreza WRCar is the most iconic rally car of the modern era. It also directly influenced the 22B, which is still regarded by many as the best looking production car to sport the Impreza badge. As much as I love the car though, I recognize that there are probably other priorities for the team. One of the most interesting snippets of info we told at CM last year* were the approximate times required to develop new cars. I knew it was an involved process, but I was staggered how many man hours go into each individual car. * Well I thought it was interesting!

Mitsubishi used the Group A Evo until midway through the 2001 season @TheFlyingTuga. The Lancer WRC didn't debut until late in the year.

@Rallycameraman mentioned on racedepartment a 208 r5, so i think the other r5 car from PSA will be in the game, too! I'm sure @Rallycameraman will have remembered it correctly: he made a beeline for the R5 class while my priority was the rallycross car list! There were 3 available at the event in November with a 4th to be added if the licence could be sought. Cheers for confirming @Rallycameraman: was sure I'd only seen three when we there in November, but thought I must be forgetting something!
