At about CA$1.19/litre, we're paying twice as much as Americans. I was going to feel bad until I read @tbtstt 's reply. It's actually got a bit cheaper here in the last few months: at one point premium (99 RON) petrol was over £1.30 a litre (so over $8 a gallon!). This is why I'm too much of a party pooper to dream properly—I'd love to own an STI! Oh but then I'd have to pay for premium. Forget it. Haha! It's worth spending all your money at the petrol station @dwkGravey, honest!

YOU feel old! Hah! I'm old enough to have rallied with Roger Clark, Stiq Blomqvist, Hannu Mikkola and Bjorn Waldegaard...to name a few who were a little faster than me. I don't believe you. There is no way someone that old is able to use a computer and post on a forum. ;)

I suppose. Tucson is pretty cheap for fuel. Little while ago it was back down to $1.80/gallon Which is still high considering all the gas sources we could tap on American soil. I've also heard that the British economy is better than Americas, so even with those high taxes and all you guys have more spending money, then again that was also a few years ago. $1.80 a gallon? Damn! Last time I filled up it was about £1.15 a litre. If my maths is correct that's roughly £5.20 a gallon, so about $6.80 a gallon at the current exchange rate! The cost of living in central London is horrendous, and it's continuing to climb. Pretty much everywhere within the M25 (that's the motorway that rings London for all you non-UK folk) is expensive as well ^ That. That sounds very familiar. I'm in the minority among my friends in that I stayed at home longer in order to accumulate enough money to pay for a deposit: most moved out and started renting and, once you're in the rent trap, it's hard to get out of it. Still, you are paying a lot less for fuel than we are, so that should cheer you up! I suppose. Tucson is pretty cheap for fuel. You said you had a cheap house. And how do we know your house isn't lowering theirs? ;) Here is a pic of my "cheap house" Like I said, i have no problems, and no teeth HA! The teeth line just made me laugh out loud! (and if that really is your house pre-restoration then that is cool as fuck!)

Nope so, I have now finished uni, and am currently in the process of saving up a lot of money for next year. Here's my problem though, I'm undecided what to spend it on: Option 1- A two month trip from coast to coast in the USA, going pretty much everywhere, including an attempt on Seb Loeb's Pikes Peak world record in a hire car. Something I've wanted to do for a while Option 2- A rally car and my first season in the BTRDA as a driver decisions decisions.... I'd say save up for two years. I have a friend who made it through college and saved just about every penny, almost 5 years later he's got almost everything 100% paid off, including his house, so pretty soon he'll have all his paycheck to spend on hobbies. Ha, I take it you are in the US @JZStudios? I worked whilst in college and Uni so I didn't have to take any student loans out. I left uni with no debts so I could immediately start saving funds for a deposit on a house. I finally had enough to buy one last year: I'll be 58 when I finish paying for it. Yeah, we only pay for ourselves here. Don't know how old you are now, but if it takes that long whatever you went to college for seems.... well... My friends about 30 and will have everything paid off in about 5 years, and that's with buying other things, like house renovations and a studio. Expensive house renovations. Like, stupid expensive. I'm 34 now, was 33 at purchase. From the little reading I've done, I think there is a considerable difference in property prices between the US and the UK. The house I bought is a pretty compact two bedroom semi detached house: it was £260,000 and that was just before local property prices spiked again. Holy cow, thats a lot for the US. I have a smallish house with some nice acreage and a 2 car detached garage. Paid way way less than that but its a 110 year old house so I have had to do some renovations (cosmetic) finished up inside now working on outside, but I DIY everything so I have saved a lot on labor. Its been fun, but I am tired, hope next year to be done. But I am 43 and I will have have it paid off when I am 65, seems like a long road ahead. The place I bought is a relatively new build (mid-80's) but it had previously been tenanted, so it needed some love: it's had a new bathroom, external doors, windows and fencing since I bought it. Also had to strip many, many, layers of wallpaper from the walls of all the room so they (and the ceilings) could be plastered: plasterer is due to do the last two ceilings tomorrow morning, which will be another milestone. Then I can start worrying about heating... Most important jobs I have done on the house so far: built a shed and fully painted the garage!

The hatch grew on me (seeing it rallying certainly helped) and I now prefer it to the sedan of that generation. The newest shape is really growing on me as well. I have seen a few in the metal and I don't think photos do them justice. Best looking (in my opinion) would be the two door classics, especially the 22B. The widetrack blob STi isn't far behind that though, hence why I've got one! In terms of performance, the latter generation of cars are less harsh to drive. The best production Impreza Subaru have ever produced still has to be the Spec C RA-R.

Exhaust doesn't look OEM (unless the Euro spec cars got a different backbox) and it's obviously sitting lower on the coilovers, but looks pretty standard otherwise. Would like to see under the bonnet! EDIT: Just looked at the interior shot. The pillar mounted boost gauge isn't standard either. Yup, the only custom seems to be exhaust and coilovers. I would throw away the gauge in an instant. And to be honest, nothing is certain when it comes to cars for sale. Would have to look at it to make a judgement. I find it rather surprising the back arches are free of rust. Kinda unique for a GT! Absolutely, pictures can hide many sins! Yeah, rear arches are always the first place rust seems to strike on the GC Impreza. That looks good in the picture, though it's worth having a good nose underneath. Check if it's a cat back exhaust or a straight through system: if it's straight through then the car should have been remapped. Ok. I actually went straight from work to have a look at it. The condition is at first glance very very good. The back arches looked flawless. It was a 3" system straight through. The owner didn't know if it had been remapped or not. He took the car as a trade for another car not long ago. There was also an open dump valve, which I'm not that fond of as I would want the car as original as possible. Yeah, back to the standard re-circ would be my first move as well! If it's running a 3" straight through system it definitely should have been remapped, so I'd get that checked as a first priority. You need to remove the arch liners and boot trim for a really good look around, but clear rear arches sound promising. I'm biased, but I'd say buy it! I'm sure decent GC Impreza's are going to be future classics.

real life 2020 FIA World Rally Championship
tbtstt replied to Fedemaisonnave's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
I don't watch them in sequence, but I often pick out a classic WRC DVD to pop on in the evening (when the missus lets go of the TV remote that is). Very much looking forward to finishing decorating so I can get my collection out of boxes and onto a shelf (or two). That should also provide me a perfect excuse to fill the gaps in my Irish tarmac DVD collection as well! -
Just been looking at the tweets and it seems to have been taken in jest from the WRC game page. Still, given the quality of their games, it's no surprise that they have a good sense of humour.
-
@ChristinaMc needs to start some Twitter beef with the WRC page. Tell them if they want to see a real car crash they should play something developed by Milestone. Brutal! If only I could get away with saying that. ;) I've had a little pop though - I didn't even notice it yesterday! It probably says a lot that when I 'monitor competitor activity', I only take a casual weeklyish glance at what they're doing... Ha! Just saw your response, well played!

Well that was thoroughly underwhelming. As said, at least feature a proper smash!
-
Looks like an almost perfect copy of the gear shift from the OMSE Fiestas.
-
Hmmmm. I personally wouldn't count that as positive confirmation of anything. I think you could argue that DiRT Rally already contains "tracks from the FIA WRC and RallyCross championships". The car number is interesting though, as I don't think DR has that many cars in it? Either way, awesome setup!

@ChristinaMc has posted the following in the latest (05/08/16) road book thread: Full disclosure, it might be more like this for a little while... It's very, very hard trying to write a Road Book when you can't write about the best bits! "a long while" makes me think it's a new title rather than DLC? The new road book also alludes to a road trip at the end of the month (I think it's hinting at rallycross, but I could be reading it wrong). Research trip for a new title? I could understand her words wrong cause english isn't my native language but I've felt like it's a little while in a matter that it's not so distance future from today. You've made me sad when I've realized that :( Sorry, didn't mean to make you sad! I might be reading it wrong, so don't give up hope!

Yep. That was the voice of Christian Stevenson. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time but, in my personal opinion, it was the most un-rad decision Codemasters made with DiRT 3. (As an aside, Stevenson has done the live commentary for the Arenacross events the last couple of years: he is just as cringe inducing live as he is in game)

Haha, no worries @gfRally! I always remember that video, as it's my go to when trying to convince people that Block doesn't believe his own marketing! I have never spoken to Block directly, but I had a very limited interaction with him at Loheac a couple of years back. I was at the track the day after the rallycross weekend and Block was testing. I had a brief lurk around the Monster tent and tried to get the attention of someone relevant. I was told by one of the mechanics that he probably wouldn't be signing stuff while in and out of the car, but they asked what I had with me: which is when I showed them my copy of "Easier Said Than Done". The mechanic seemed rather surprised to see that and said he would take it over. Block signed it immediately, was pointed in my direction and actually acknowledged me: guess he was surprised to see someone at a French event with it as well! There was a brief chat between a few members of the team and a woman came out and handed the DVD back to me. She told me that Matt Johnston was actually filming at the circuit that day. She took my picture as she said Matt would be keen to see a copy of his film had made it to Europe. Never did see any footage of his from the testing though, so I don't know what he was shooting for: I'm also rather glad that picture never of me saw the light of day, as it was probably awful, haha!

It's because he an extremely gifted marketeer and gets attention for what people feel is the "wrong reason". They see him driving in rally as a cultural appropriation of sorts, designed to sell energy drinks at the expense of the sport. People have formed an opinion on him based on his brand and marketing without ever actually listening to him talk. Because once you do hear him talk you realize he is a very chill, humble, family man that is simply happy he is successful enough to pursue his passion. This thread proves my point, the narrative is that he thinks he is god's gift to driving, yet when he participated in a handful of WRC rounds, his interviews showed that he was completely realistic about his chances in the series and was simply thankful for the opportunity to drive with some of the best drivers in the world. Then again, as it was pointed out earlier, I am probably just too dumb to understand. I would say you've got it spot on! You don't get excited at seeing a 600hp Mustang sling around a lightpole at 60mph? 800+ BHP! ;) OUCH. I think this is what you are looking for. https://youtu.be/Vg2c7Pp7H0Q I already posted that one on the last page @gfRally! There was another interview where he covered the same subject in more detail, I'll have to have a search later on.
-
Ditto! I found the stupid driver comments during the races in DiRT 2 incredibly irritating, far more than any content in DiRT 3 (apart from Christian Stephenson). The origins of the gymkhana videos are mentioned in the interview that I posted earlier. Given that the first video was almost completely happenstance, it's pretty incredible to see how viewed the series is now. At this point they are perhaps a little repetitive but, much like his career, I admire Block for getting paid to thrash highly modified AWD cars around in public! I think it was a latter Drive interview (or possibly elsewhere) where Block mentions that he isn't fan of the public exposure, but it's a necessary evil to get the backing that he does. He has also mentioned that, as stage rally doesn't draw as much exposure, he has to do other things in order to get the backing for the limited stage rallies that he participates in.
