I have indeed: I checked while I was waiting for the installation to complete!

I've had the game for a year now and I've only gotten to like clubman championship with the Fulvia. :P I just do custom events. Haha! I've now done the first rally Championship and the two rallycross Championships (in Super 1600 cars) and reached the professional level. That unlocked the World Rallycross Championship and, given that I had enough money for a Supercar, I bought the DS3 and went for it... ...in hindsight that was a slightly ambitious move. An awful drive at Holjes in the wet cost me badly and I finished the Championship in the bottom end of the top 10! Decided to do the "normal" professional rallycross Championship next to build up some experience in the DS3 and unlock all the upgrades, then I'm going back to the World Championship for my title! Bought the Peugeot 405 T16 last thing before switching off last night. Annoyingly I'm away tonight, so Pikes Peak will be my first job when I get home tomorrow evening! Do you have Rallycross unlocked with the game code?, i have only got two rallies one with the Mini and one with the Escort. In game it says 19% and now its downloading in game files or something like that. As @KevM says you get those preview events to play while it is downloading @couger1981! I had about 24 hours wait for the whole game.

Haha! If you've already done it once I can see the prospect of doing it all again quite off putting!

Yeah, it kind of sucks and the old consoles didn't have that problem. You can swap out the PS4 HDD though... The new consoles are actually missing a lot that the old consoles had. Like being able to store and play music... Or in the case of the Xbone being able to stream from your PC, or playing in the background.... ehh. There's a lot missing. Well I've got a 1TB PS4 and there aren't many games on my shopping list at the moment (in fact the next one I want hasn't even got a release date yet), so hopefully I'll be OK for a while. Back to DiRT and, after an evening with the game, my first impression is that it was well worth the wait. The rallycross is exactly what I was hoping for. I wasn't a fan of the "short" circuit variants, but some of the alternative Holjes configurations are actually pretty good fun. Really pleased that all the cars are "open" in the custom championship from the outset, so you are able to just dive in and try the cars you want without having to do loads of career first. Made a start on the career as well; did the first rallycross Championship in a Super 1600, then had a go at the first rally in a Mini. Was heading for a win in that Championship, but I threw it all away on the last rally. Stupid Finnish trees. I hope other console owners appreciate the experience, but I like the fact that just finishing the rally stages is an achievement, let alone posting a good time in the process! Will do the next rallycross Championship tonight, then hopefully I'll have enough cash for a Supercar and a Group B rally car. Oh, and did my first daily (RS200 on one of the Monte Carlo stages: pretty good introduction to Group B cars!). I was actually doing quite well, but I went into one of the hairpins a bit too hot, spun the car and, in my haste to get going again, managed to mow down some spectators. Double penalty: bugger! Oh well, hopefully today's daily will go better!

Install complete. First custom event completed: full rallycross event, Lydden Hill, driving Solberg's DS3. Time for a quick clean up then I'm off to Wales in a Group A Impreza.

Interesting to see the press reaction thus far to the console release. I hope what is perceived to be a less mainstream game continues to receive such high praise. I see that the advance code competition is closed, so I now have my fingers (and other limbs) crossed... Well, I heard Ben put in Mexico and a RS1800, so you should be pretty pumped for that. :D I'm also going to take more credit than I probably should for getting you that PS4 code! Well massive thanks to you and everyone who put in a word for me: I am very grateful to you all! I unpacked the PS4 and began downloading as soon as I got in from work last night (obviously!). It's a pretty chunky file (just under 43 GB in total) so I started it off, then popped out for an hour. Came back to find the progress bar was, surprisingly, over half full. 30 minutes later and it said it was ready so, full of excitement (far more than any adult should have for a game) I fired it up, entered my name, tweaked the options and got ready for some rallycross... ...however it turned out the PS4 was lying! It seems the game is "ready" once it has reached approximately 15%. At that stage you can open the game, set all the options and the like, but the bulk of the content is still downloading. Still it wasn't all bad, as you can play two "preview" rally events at that point, one in a Mini Cooper, the other in a Mk.II Escort. Decided to start easy, so I went with the Mini: glad I did, as even with the Mini I was initially struggling! Managed to inadvertently get my first trophy after about 10 corners (I barrel rolled!), but after a few stages it started to click and soon after I claimed my first fastest sector time: hurrah! Read the PS4 manual and discovered you can enable downloading while in "rest" mode, so I left it resting overnight. As of this morning it had downloaded about 20GB, so I'm hoping it might be all done by this evening. That's the most irritating thing about the new consoles. I know you got a digital download, but if you buy a physical disc you HAVE to install all 50+ GB of content, and you only get enough HDD space for 10 games at that point. It's like buying a physical copy for PC and it's just a steam code, the CD doesn't have the content. :| Ah, I didn't know that! So even physical copies have to be fully downloaded? My first disc game (MGS5) should arrive this week, so I was expecting to pop that in and play it straight away!* (*if I can tear myself away from Dirt that is)

Well last night was a good warm up, hopefully the full game awaits me this evening! I think you should consider yourself lucky you haven't got a PS4: you'd look awfully silly when the newbie kicks your ass around Lydden. ;)

500 pages of off-topic ramblings, nonsensical hypotheses and car-name arguments #S1E22B As we have reached such a momentous occasion - and with DiRT Rally about to come full circle and get released on console - an appearance from @justbiglee would surely be appropriate!

Haha, I appreciate the continuing thoughts @JZStudios! I actually visited Codemasters back in October 2014, so I played the game (in it's pre-release form) 17 months ago. Still the good news today, is that 517 days after my first (and only) proper play of the game, it's just 7 days until release, hurrah! @tbtstt perhaps you can return ur PS4 and cancel DiRT Rally, and save your money for this auction: https://www.motorsportauctions.com/category/382/Performance-Road-Cars/listings/35965/Subaru-Impreza-22B-STi.html :P Just kidding ofc! Just go for DiRT rally its awesome! :D Haha! I think it's going to take more than the cost of a PS4 to win that auction @ThierryNeuville! Shamefully the PS4 arrived last week and I haven't event turned it on yet! Will try and get it set up before the weekend so it's ready to go for next Tuesday.

Sainz only drove for SWRT in 1994 and 1995, so it wouldn't have been his car if he was talking about a latter generation Impreza WRCar. He does mention rev limits in this video with Vicki-Butler Henderson whilst driving Petter Solberg's S9 Impreza WRCar, is this the one you are thinking of? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCei-iQCVLU (At around the 1:25 mark) I would personally say that the latter 2.0L turbo WRC engines all share broadly similar characteristics; i.e. delivering a lot of torque very low down in the rev range.

What time is the concert? Just do both! I did the MotoGP and a concert on the same day back in 2014. Was busy, but was an awesome combo! (Though I was pretty tired the next day) Off to Lydden on Sunday for the second round of the British Rallycross Championship. My first motorsport outing of the year and I cannot wait, seems to have been a very long off season!
-
Rewinding to a conversation a couple of pages back... Possibly. I seem to remember someone mentioning that the game would be there but perhaps not in an official capacity. ...any advance on this @KickUp? Will DR/CM be at Lydden?
-
Excellent! Only a minor thing, but every video I've seen of the car selection screen always seems to show each car starting at livery 1: was curious if that feature had been retained.
-
Aye, Allied Assault was great, though I still prefer the first ones more. Destroying the V2 rocket in the very first MoH... dem feels. In any case, enough of this off-topic or Skiddy will have our asses xD Haha, fair point! Not gossip, but a minor game-related question to bring the thread back on topic: does DiRT Rally remember your fave livery choice for each car? (the same way that DiRT 3 did?)
-
When it comes to arcade shooters, I personally prefer Unreal Tournament 3 or something of the sorts. If you do something, do it properly or don't do it at all. Wish they would remake the Medal of Honor games, starting with the very first on the PSX. Ahh... those were the times. Still remember how killing enemies from close range with shotgun made them do a backflip :D Storming Normandy beach: still one of the best gaming monents of all time!

It's OK @F2CMaDMaXX, I saw it years ago (on VHS!) and thought it was a bit cheesy, but it's worth a watch if you see it cheap. The more recent "Madness on Wheels" is a bit sensationalist, but much better put together (in my personal opinion). The "a la une" series are still my fave Group B videos, as they don't have any commentary, just pure footage. They are all very difficult to find these days though. Hah, and here I thought I would be posting a hint on what to do with it xD Great minds think alike xD Ha! I have enjoyed a lot of the COD games @RyuMakkuro (in fact I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who liked Ghosts!), but the last few have done nothing for me. I have played a bit of Blacks Ops II and briefly played Black Ops III a couple of weeks ago: both seemed a bit much, especially online. with the stupid costumes and the like. BEST. IDEA. EVER. In semi-related news, I just got a delivery... ...first job: get Black Ops III out of the box and sell it on ebay! Alright!!!! Get the Last of Us and DriveClub *whispering* Already have Last Of Us on PS3 (it's actually the last game I bought for it!). Phenomenal game - and I'm sure it looks better on PS4 - but I have recently played it through twice, so I don't really fancy playing it again. Have played DriveClub on several mates PS4's: fun, but I wasn't blown away by it. MGS5 is the only other game I really want for the PS4 at the moment: I'm a huge fan of the series and I deferred buying MGS5 on the PS3 so I can see it at it's best on the PS4! MGS5 is a FANTASTIC game, but no spoilers, it doesn't really have a conclusive ending, it just ends without answering any questions, and raises new ones. >:) Given where it fits into the timeline I was expecting as much @JZStudios. Peace Walker (and Ground Zeroes) have stories within them, but they don't really contribute that much to the overall MGS storyline. It's a Metal Gear game though, so I'm already sold! Best. Package. Ever! I nominate @tbtstt to recieve a promo copy. Come on. THIS IS THE NEW BEST POST EVER. Yeah I agree, this poor guy has been watching videos of us playing and talking about it forever, never being able to play it himself! Hook him up! It has been a rather long wait @griev0r: 512 days since I saw the game at CM, just 11 to go before I get to play it again!

Haha! I wasn't expecting it to turn up until next week, got to spend two weeks looking at it now waiting for DiRT!
