DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

This picture from the blog... ...sums up how I intend to be spending many hours with the game! Come on April!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

It's not a new team @Underkex, as @KingOfCoins said... ...that team were running Audi S3's last year: Interesting move to Seat, I wonder if there is some manufacturer support? Car looks good in that render as well, be great to see another different marque on the grid!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I'm all about the physical copy: a game isn't owned unless it's sitting in a box on the shelf.  ;) Same, plus with box art as cool as dirt's, I can't not have the box! I shall be pre ordering from somewhere else, probably game I have been eyeing up the Legend Edition on Amazon... ...the game, a documentary (which I already have on DVD), some extras and, most crucially: A SHINY BOX.  How's the PS4 search going? I have the cash ready to go. However I haven't bought one yet as DR isn't out for a month and I am attempting to minimize the distractions for working on the house: that way I won't feel bad when DR comes out and I spend a huge amount of time planted in front of the PS4 and not decorating!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Not really DiRTy Gossip - but I've got to talk about something while I counting down the days until DR arrives on console - there has been loads of rallycross news the last fortnight: several major driver swaps in the World Championship and a number of younger drivers stepping up to Supercar in the British Championship. We should be in for some decent racing in 2016!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

There were actually two RS200's at Pikes Peak the first year it went fully tarmac @gfRally. Pat Doran's... ...and the Mach 2 Racing car: Pat's got the most attention, but the Mach 2 car was actually faster up the hill! (By about 30 seconds if I remember rightly). Would be brilliant to see one (or both!) of them added to the game.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Pat (Liam's Dad) ran at Pikes Peak in another RS200. Pat bought the second RS200 as a rolling shell off Dietter Knuttel (who had been using it for hillclimb in Germany). They used some bits from the rallycross RS200 to get the car running, it was repainted (badly!) in similar colours to Pat's Caterpillar livery and it did a few demos in this specification during 2011 (most notably at the British Rallycross round at Lydden in August).  The car was then extensively reworked (with the borrowed bits returned to the rallycross RS200) for Liam to run at Pikes Peak in 2012. A scheduling conflict meant Pat drove the car instead though. The rallycross RS200 was completely stripped and rebuilt back in 2014. It appeared in Pat's "Q8" livery at the World Rallycross round at Lydden in 2014. Unfortunately it caught fire during a demo run and was damaged. It has subsequently been rebuilt again and, with a bit of luck, it will be seen again this year!

Incidentally - and while we are having an off topic conversation about rallycross - here is a pretty cool video* from a couple of years ago:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUSplVTi19Y&feature=youtu.be Modern versus classic rallycross cars!  * Well I think it's cool.  ;)

Don't me wrong, I love the 6R4, but in it's rally guise it was rather gutless without a turbo. I definitely see it as the least intimidating of the Group B cars though.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Yeah, the same engine was used as the basis for the XJ220. Where it had originally been 3.0L in the 6R4 it was 3.5L and twin-turbo for the Jaguar.  I was fortunate enough to get access to the 6R4.net track day last year and some of the owners had some brilliant stories about the history of their cars. It was pretty interesting to hear how many different engine sizes were tried in rallycross (there were 3.0L, 3.5L, 3.6L and 3.8L naturally aspirated engines). Gollop's 6R4 was ridiculous, it's funny when you watch the old footage how many times his car seems to remove the tyres from the rims!

Only the yellow, blue and red one I think. Think it was in dirt 3 too, along with Liam doran's rs200 Yeah. Gibson's 6R4 was in DiRT 2 and DiRT 3. Pat Doran's RS200 was in DiRT 2 (in the Hydrex livery and with Liam's name/number) and in DiRT 3 (with Liam as the driver, but with a livery derived from one of Pat's older liveries). Yeah, I think Gibson's was a 3.5L, wasn't it @KevM? To give an idea of comparable engines, Gollop's bi-turbo 6R4 was a 2.3L and producing in excess of 750 BHP! Yep, fully agree with you there!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

The British Championship regulations allowed (and still do allow) Group B cars to be used. However there are weight penalties and, in the case of the 6R4, they must remain naturally aspirated. If a retro rallycross pack were to happen I think the 6R4 the vast majority of us want to see is Will Gollop's bi-turbo car...  ...which of course had a very different engine configuration. Gibson's car may give some general ideas, but it won't help with the engine setup. Gibson's 6R4 also has more modern suspension fitted, so it's not going to handle like a Group B car did back in the 90's either. As said though it would certainly be a starting point, as there aren't many period specification Group B rallycross cars out there. Notably Gollop's second car is now back in the UK, and the owner is trying to restore it to period specification, so that is one that CM may have on the radar if Group B rallycross is a possibility.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Are you confirming this is the car that you heard the rumour about @KevM? If that's the case I wouldn't get too excited about a "true" Group B rallycross class yet. Lawrence Gibson's 6R4 was last used in the British Rallycross Championship and, at that point, it was rather more restricted than the 6R4's of the Group B rallycross heyday, so I'm not sure how useful it would prove as research for a true classic rallycross pack. Still, it might give CM a starting point, so fingers crossed that a Group B rallycross class is on the horizon!

Well it's not the answer I was hoping for, but this is still a pretty cool bit of information! You officially live in the coolest neighbourhood @KevM!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on that one @dgeesi0. Don't get me wrong, I've been following the Fiesta build for almost four years now (check page 61!), I know how much thought has gone into the car and I absolutely love what he has done... but just read the specs for the HFHV. The components that are listed are top end; as already said the transmission and engine are basically the best that money can buy plus the car itself has been refined by a professional motorsport team after countless test sessions and competitive outings. I do agree that £250,000 is a lot though, especially as I think the car will require some significant changes to run in any European Championships. Having said that, it's a bit of motoring history in that it's the Gymkhana 5 car.  who said it was coming to Europe anyhow??? :P  Seriously, I hope someone over hear buys it and runs it in America, Higgins could use some competition, and its almost making it boring like Loeb winning all the time. Haha! Sorry @gfRally, my comment wasn't intended as a critique at your homeland!  ;) I shall re-word my previous comment; I agree that £250,000 is a lot of money when it's a car that is suitable for a relatively limited market in its current configuration,

I seriously doubt someone built the exact same spec car as Block's for £100,000.  Little known fact that the HFHV cost very nearly 7 figures to build and develop.  If @dgeesi0 is talking about the car I think then it's a AWD Mk.6 Fiesta @Rallycameraman. The chap has done most of the build himself, the car is finished to a very high standard and has already proven to be very capable on track... ...but it is no way comparable to Block's HFHV or RX43 in terms of spec. The gearbox alone in the HFHV probably wasn't far off £100K. Then add in the rest of the drivetrain, suspension, engine (from one of the most expensive builders out there) plus development... a total nearing seven figures doesn't surprise me at all.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Haha! Block is actually the second owner of the chassis; it originally started life as Hirvonen's WRCar Fiesta... but he crashed it! So as a car with two previous owners, and with a pretty hard life so far, I'm sure they need to discount that price a bit...

Brilliant! I'll send you my bank details @Porkhammer , let me know when the funds are on the way.  You talking about the grey Mk.6 Fiesta build @dgeesi0 ? I seriously love that build, but the spec of Block's car is far superior. The drivetrain alone is probably worth £100K!

I've a favour to ask the members of the forum; while I'm waiting for the console release of Dirt Rally, I have been thinking about taking a leaf out of @Rallycameraman's book and following my dream to go rallycrossing. With that in mind...  https://www.motorsportauctions.com/index.php?a=2&b=35736 ...can someone lend me £250,000 please?

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I caved and got an xbox just before Christmas 2014. Luckily April 5th is in my easter holidays, just as I get back from skiing. Although, knowing my luck I'll break my wrist whilst I'm out there! I'm not in a rush to get one yet (especially as I don't want any more distractions from DIY jobs!). I shall make sure I have one ordered by the end of March so I'm ready to go on the 5th!
