DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Petter Solberg RX team showed their livery and I have to say I'm not a fan... :( https://twitter.com/RallycrossRX/status/458946721930694656 Me neither! Much preferred last years livery: and where is Bruce Lee?!
  2. Great work @MastaVonBlasta! I would highly recommend ERC24 (http://erc24.com/) for that list, by far the best rallycross news website/Facebook of the lot.   Most of the content on Rallycross360 is copy/pasted from other rallycross websites and there are often mistakes in their Facebook stream: its generally the last rallycross website I look at!  Rallycross World (http://www.rallycrossworld.com/) isn't updated as regularly, but has some good articles on it. Rallycross Online (http://rallycross.com/) is excellent for results and quickly checking Championship standings.
  3. Sensible money surely has to be on Rosberg or Hamilton: I'm going to say Hamilton!

Definately agree with this; Flashbacks make it easier for the casual gamers and can be switched off for those of us who like a challenge!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I saw the teaser picture of his 2014 car and was actually a bit disappointed. His 2013 car was easily my fave livery in the rallycross paddock last year, I was hoping it would be back for 2014!

    Thought this looked pretty cool

Saw this a couple of weeks back: very cool!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I remember from some old @KickUp interview that often the team models and develops cars for the game with hope that the approval will come through later. Because it takes a long time to 3D model the car and then tweak its handling they have to start before they get the manufacturer/livery approval. Maybe in the past the DiRT team modelled and developed cars, which they couldn't put into the final game because of licencing issues.  That tweet may be a joke between work buds or a deliberate hint? :D The DiRT 3 team had a number of cars already on the list to be put in but couldn't get permission to use them. Yeah. I remember the Skoda Fabia being one of the cars that disappeared after it was mentioned in some of the very early DiRT 3 previews.

Cheers @ThierryNeuville, I still get a kick out of driving it! :) Come on, there must be more forum members with cars: what have you got?!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Both the Doran RS200's belong to Pat (Liams Dad!). Been looking at the news from Lydden today, but nothing major so far. I have just been told that rallycross will be getting a feature on tonights local news: doubt they will launch a new game there!    Still some major unknowns with regards to Liam's World Rallycross team, which I guess we'll hear more on when the World Championship is officially launched on the 23rd. In Rallycross related news I just spotted this article over on Racingist: http://racingist.com/2014/04/15/inside-line-david-binks/ Its an interview with David Binks and contains a few interesting lines mid-interview, specifically: "...we are working with some great people throughout the year in WRX and with Codemasters on some exciting stuff" Surely that must be DiRT 4? Should say his R200 Pikes peak Yeah, thats the ex-Dieter Knuttel shell Pat bought a couple of years back, such a mean looking car! Liam "borrowed" it from Pat to use at Pikes Peak, but then couldn't make it due to a scheduling conflict so Pat ended up running. Pat is to return to Pikes Peak with the RS200 again this year.   Pats original rallycross RS200 is currently undergoing a rebuild and will run in the Retro Rallycross Challenge here in the UK later this year. It does look like a beast :D It ran at Lydden once before they heavily modified it... ...and I've seen it on display a few times, but never seen it running in its full Monster configuration: apparently its too loud to be taken on track!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Great thread, nice to see all the snippets thus far in one place!
  17. They still make awesome cars @ThierryNeuville, just not World Rally Cars! ;) Have to say I'm rather tempted by the 2015 STI... Back on topic, one of my fave circuit race cars and liveries of all times: @tbstt I was trying to ad this via mobile yesterday, and it wouldn't post correctly.. but you beat me to it!  Yes the Porsche 917 is my favorite car of all time.  When I was very young my father worked at a Porsche dealer, and from time to time he would pick up a die cast model that they sold there for a present.  I think this was the first one he gave me, good memories. To be honest I'm not that big of a Porsche fan; there are a couple of their road cars I really like (specifically the 911 GT3), but for the most part they don't excite me that much. The 917 is an exception though: utterly love the car, especially in the Gulf colours!
  18. They still make awesome cars @ThierryNeuville, just not World Rally Cars! ;) Have to say I'm rather tempted by the 2015 STI... Back on topic, one of my fave circuit race cars and liveries of all times: @tbtstt I don't like the 2015 STI it looks more like a EVO X/ Impreza although the commercial is very good ;-) Yeah, I agree it does look a lot like the Evo X, but then I think the Evo X is a good looking car, so that doesn't bother me too much!  The only thing that really puts me of is that the UK model is going to get the 2.5L engine again, was hoping they would learn from past mistakes and go back to the 2.0L engine for the UK. I have been contemplating the looks of the new wrx/sti, starting to see them at some dealers.  I've come to the conclusion that from time to time all manufactures cars share similar looks.  IDK did everyone share the same comments when the bugeye came out with Dodge Neon headlights, which i think where 'inspired' by the new beetle? I don't recall anyone citing any inspiration for the bug eye headlights when they were first revealed: just everyone agreeing how awful they looked! :D The bug eye light have never really grown on me, it was only when the blob eye came along that I really warmed to the newage Impreza.

    "Next" DiRT game wishlist!

The guys in audio are really passionate about what they do (just like we all are) and I honestly think we make some of the best sounding games out there.  Just the other week I was outside with them recording some audio and they have this crazy expensive super high tech setup that has been developed in conjunction with a university and they way it works and captures audio blew my mind. I probably can't say much more, not for fear of letting anything about the game out (surprise we record cars!) just more a case for letting something slip about the tech that I shouldn't. I fully plan to have some kind of feature about it up on the blog/in a video/on a podcast when the time is right. Sounds very promising! I believe there were a couple of members of the sound team present on the old forum, so fingers crossed they will sign up here as well. As I mentioned above I thought there was huge progress made in the car audio (especially if you compare DiRT to DiRT 3); with the exception of perhaps one or two cars, all the cars with distinctive audio were clearly identifiably in DiRT 3. Although I appreciate it might not be for everyone, I would love to have realistic audio on the interior camera angles, i.e.: more transmission whine and more engine noise!

    What do you drive?

Just think of all the extra trips to the petrol station I'm making @justbiglee, that should help make you a bit less jealous! :D Was your Mini Cooper a new MINI or a proper old school Mini Cooper? It was a new one, (I'm a little on the big side for an old one) It was white with black bonnet stripes, sunroof, aero body kit and those cool spot lamps on the front. I'm sure I've got pictures of it on my backup hard drive, I'll try dig them out As much as the new (not very mini) MINI bug me for using the Mini name, they seem to draw a lot of praise from drivers. I had an Olympic edition MINI as a courtesy car for a few weeks last year, was a bit gutless at low revs but you could really throw it around: I bet the Cooper was a lot of fun!

    "Next" DiRT game wishlist!

Don't know if anyone has mentioned the audio of the cars themselves yet, but I'd like to see improvements continue to be made there as well. I thought the audio in both DiRT 2 and DiRT 3 was an improvement on the games that had preceeded them. If they are going to implement launch control in the next game I hope there will be suitable audio to match: especially in the case of rallycross cars, as the starts always sound incredible!

    Colin McRae DiRT

I would say "slightly strange" is a pretty kind appraisal of the DiRT 1 handling @JonTucker! As I said earlier though I enjoyed playing it at the time, it was only after playing DiRT 2 and going back to DiRT 1 when I really clicked how off the handling was. I'm in full agreement with @Rallycameraman: DiRT 1 stages/tracks with the DiRT 3 handling model would be superb!
