DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Combination of factors I think @AlexSpartan316. Trends in car sales (both domestic and foreign markets) were changing and the WRC program seemed less relevant, '06 or '07 were awful seasons for SWRT and '08 was really the final nail in the coffin. I wonder just how different the 2008 campaign might have been with McRae onboard and if he could have extracted more from the S14: and perhaps prolonged the existence of SWRT. Subaru still have some factory involvement with the Japanese (and Pacific-Asia) Championship, plus Subaru USA seem have heavily invested in their US rally programme with Vermont... ...as for a return to WRC I can't see it happening in the near future. The WRX STI is too big to work with the current regulations. If the rumours about the next WRX STI are true and it is going to be based on a smaller platform, then perhaps they might have a suitable car, but with changes to the regulations coming I can't see Subaru getting involved until those come into effect. I suspect that the reason the EJ20 isn't mentioned on a lot of the press material is because it isn't great to show the competition car using a different engine to the showroom model (especially given how much the US marketing seems to focus on the direct connection between the stage and showroom models). Yeah, can understand that you were/are trapped by the market. A lot of the Forester crowd really rate the EJ25 and, to be fair, the UK hawk (the first UK model to get the EJ25) was OK, it was the hatch when the trouble (specifically ringland failure) began. Although that was later proven to not be directly connected to the engine itself, it gave the EJ25 a real stigma. Shame that the UK got stuck with the EJ25 because of the US market. It's perhaps an unfair judgement on my part, but there is no way I'd buy a post-2005 UK model because of that engine.

Well the rest of them need to be easy to allow more time to be spent driving the DS21!

Although it is not entirely without merit, the EJ25 ruined the UK variant of the Impreza. The EJ25, perhaps unfairly, has a real stigma attached to it in the UK, as the hatch was plagued with engine issues.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I don't get much time for gaming in the evenings, so I am reluctant to waste an evening (or two!) racking up mileage in one of my least favourite cars in the game!

    WRC 9

That's how I have felt about a lot of the (recent) WRC titles. I have put time into them because they are rallying games, and I'll do the same with WRC8, but if they were missing from my gaming history I don't feel that would be a significant loss. It's a real shame as, in the early Playstation days, the WRC games were essential purchases.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I shall be catching up and getting back to 99% completion again tonight: I still haven't put in enough miles to unlock the outstanding DS21 trophy! Given their connection to the game I am really surprised that we haven't seen another Solberg livery (or two) for the Polo R5. Hopefully that is something on the cards for a future season. Because - sorry to say it @gfRally - the EJ20 is the stronger engine and if it hadn't been for the US market the EJ25 wouldn't be as widespread as it is now. All the cars I consider to the best examples of tuned/competition Subaru use EJ20 or EJ22 blocks.

    The Game Thread!

Aside from Ghosts I haven't bought a CoD game since MW3! I played BO3 when it was free on PSN, but this is the first one that I have really wanted to play. Played a bit more last night and had a brief go online. I'm not a massive multiplayer gamer, but did a bit of the Specs Ops mode and had a couple of really enjoyable games.

Very cool. Finland is top of my motorsport bucket list! (And I agree that Italy has serious motoring connections as well!)

    WRC 9

I still want to pick it up, purely because it has the 2019 cars in it. All the videos I have watched of it seem to have dreadful car audio though!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Just been looking at that @AlexSpartan316. Possibly an error on the part of whoever is running the website but for the rally car... "Under the hood sits a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled STI engine with a ARA Championship-mandated 34mm turbo inlet restrictor." ...and for the rallycross car... "Under the hood sits a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled BOXER engine. "

You're the authority on US rallying @gfRally and I wouldn't normally doubt you: but I'm still not convinced! I am 99% certain that the early Vermont cars were Group N/Spec C derived (and thus 2.0L). Was sure subsequent rally cars had stayed at 2.0L and the rallycross car(s) definitely are. I notice that none of the current Vermont specification sheets seem to mention displacement: I wonder if that is because of marketing?

    The Game Thread!

Managed to pick up a cheap copy of CoD locally at the weekend. Wrapped up the campaign last night and, thus far, very impressed with it. It certainly isn't ultra realistic, but it's a lot less ridiculous than the latter titles in the series and it is the best single player story since the original Modern Warfare (at least in my opinion). Couple of real stand out missions, I shall be replaying the whole thing again at the toughest difficulty now!

That's really interesting to read. I thought that the Vermont cars (rally and rallycross) were all still EJ20-based @gfRally, was the Vt15 the first car to go EJ25?

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Yeah, it could go in 2000cc, but it would get spanked by the WRCars... ...I know we have pondered that car before (because @gfRally), as CM seem to have a good relationship with Subaru/US rally and they could maybe add an "Open" class. But what else would you put in the class with it?

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

It's a cool car, but I can't see how it would fit in with the current classes...
  18. Yeah, I wonder if Projekt E is more up their street now, as they stated their interest in returning to World RX when/if electric happened. I am not sure just how involved VW Motorsport were with the 2019 ARX season as well, I was under the impression that their support for VARX was minimal this year. Quite a record for the Beetle, though perhaps a slightly skewed claim, as the Beetle never faced the same level of competition (in my personal opinion) as the Polo did in World RX.

I did. But @PJTierney is being difficult and refusing to drop any details.
  21. Is there a possibility that the VW Motorsport Polo might be employed next year? (although I don't think the Polo is sold in the US?)

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Tension seems to be running high in the Gossip thread, I suspect due to the lack of actual gossip. Probably best if you defuse the situation with some season 5 news @PJTierney...
