ARX? I hope the number of entries rise, as I can't see the series lasting long as things are at the moment.
-
Off topic: I LOVE that film. So underrated!
-
Yeah, the British Championship rounds are normally like that: I was expecting less though, so there is a bit more racing!
-
Two full days from the Titans should help, plus it looks like the support classes will be running four heats, so I am hoping for two fairly full days of racing at Lydden!
-
Ha, that is wishful thinking... and sub-standard photoshopping!
-
Yeah. I didn't think the first round was that great, but I cut them some slack as it was their first attempt at things. Just seen the entry list for this weekend: https://www.barc.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Titans-RX-Lydden-Hill-Entry-List-V1-WEBSITE-22072019.pdf 15 Titans 10 Supercars 12 Retros (including four Group B) 5 Swifts Actually a pretty good entry. Hopefully the racing is decent!

Not World Rallycross, but the third and fourth rounds of the new Titans RX series take place at Lydden Hill this weekend. Anyone else planning to go? Not really sure what to expect from the "Titans", but I see Liam Doran will be driving the rallycross RS200 again, so it should be worth going just to see that car getting thrashed!
-
Brilliant, looking forward to that! (and hopefully there are more real liveries to come)
-
*Crosses fingers* In other news, Jon is absolutely killing it on the Down rally.
-
Real livery or fictional livery?...
-
Awesome, thanks @PJTierney!

Yep! The Q8 car is the "same" car that Pat was running in European Championship in the 90's... though it's been rebuilt many, many, times since then! Some elements of the car have been modernised, some bits they are manufacturing for themselves. The engine is probably the rarest part of the car now, as BDT-E blocks (and spares) aren't easy to come by. Julian Godfrey specialises in those engines though. Yeah, the Doran family own two RS200's (one rallycross car and one hillclimb car), plus LD Motorsport built and run another rallycross car for Steve Harris.

I love the fact that Pat was on the throttle all the way into the hay! It's a rallycross car and it has endured far worse on the track! They had the rear clam fixed that evening and the car was running again the next day. It's still going strong now... ...Pat and Liam always put on a good show!

Has anyone seen the trailer for Top Gun 2 yet? I was expecting it to look awful, but I am surprisingly excited by it!
-
That reminds me, Gatebil is on this week!
-
Yeah, that's correct, the Peugeot 205T16 E2 is a perfect example... ...all the period documents from Audi refer to the car as "Audi Sport quattro E2", so they didn't seem to have an issue with the switch. The source of the "S1 E2" seems unclear, but is possibly due a publication error: http://www.ableitet.no/twentyS1/s1vse2.htm

I think it was afterwards? I can't remember the exact connection, but I'm sure there was some Porsche involvement with that gearbox: I'll have to consult the quattro book and check later!
-
Yep, that's him. LD Motorsport built the car and Steve bought it, His son (Jake) also competes as well: he has used a LDM DS3 on a number of occasions over the last few years.
-
Yeah, that was the PDK gearbox.

I didn't realise that the Tahko MINI was the same car? I know it was based on a Prodrive WRCar shell, but I thought the cars converted for rallycross by Prodrive all went to JRM? Liam debuted the 1.6L test mule at Lydden in 2013 and it sounded amazing. I hate the look of the MINI Countryman WRC, but it is a great sounding car. I am not sure who built the 2.0L engines for JRM, but they were ****. I watched them spending a morning testing the 2.0L car at Loheac (with Chichiret) and the engine sounded like it had a bag of spanners stuck in it. All the JRM cars (three shells if I recall correctly) plus all the spares were bought by Liam Doran and Steve Harris. Arpin has been openly critical of the Focus and Block, although he has to tow the company line, hasn't been entirely positive about the Focus. I still believe that the Hoonigan story in rallycross would have been very different if they had been running the Fiesta (though arguably they were only there because of the Focus).
-
Not sure about the Audi 100, but they definitely used the Audi 80: the Sport quattro had the same front window rake as the Audi 80 (rather than the Ur quattro) as the drivers preferred it.
-
I'd be surprised to see anyone other than Block using those Focus now and I suspect he'll opt for the Fiesta if he has a choice.
-
The S1 is my favourite version as well. I actually think it's funny that the E2 is so beloved (and so famous) when it was the least successful rally variant of the quattro.
-
It's expensive, but worth it: you won't find a better book on the quattro! The Pikes Peak car was effectively an E2 unbound from the WRC regulations: so more power and more aero. I guess you could call in an E3 (or perhaps E2+ would be more accurate?) Chances are you did @Brain.exe has stopped! The "S1 E2" thing is a very widespread error and, as @F2CMaDMaXX says... ...it has gone full circle, as even the manufacturers own licensing department seem to get it wrong! I was first told about the mistake years ago and, despite being told by a very reputable source, I wasn't convinced as I had seen S1 E2 in so many places. It was only when I read this: http://www.ableitet.no/twentyS1/s1vse2.htm That I believed there was truly an error. John Davenport is acknowledged as one of the most knowledgeable figures on the subject.

No such thing as the "S1 E1" and "S1 E2" is (useless fact alert) a widespread typo: it's just "E2", not "S1 E2". Audi Sport quattro (road car): Audi Sport quattro S1 Audi Sport quattro E2 There were several upgrades planned for the E2, most significant of which was the sequential PDK gearbox.
