DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I spied a post from CM (think it was on Facebook?) about the success of the team working remotely. With that in mind, I wonder when we can expect the final update for DR2.0 and if there is any significant content coming in the "surprises" that were mentioned?

    Colin McRae: FLAT OUT Pack

I just kept restarting. The goal is a fixed time (3:25 I think). Took me a few trips to the trees to figure out which bits I could take flat and which bits I had to back off for!

    Colin McRae: FLAT OUT Pack

I am yet to try the last 6R4 stage on Very Hard, so those areas where you are carrying more speed are likely to assist me there. Was struggling with the Finland (damaged) WRC98 challenge last night. I had multiple attempts where I was consistently half a second too slow, then did a messy run and somehow managed to beat the challenge by almost 5 seconds. Bizarre, but I wasn't complaining!

If you enjoy Marbula-E then you should definitely check out Diecast Rally... ...it is strangely compelling viewing.

    Colin McRae: FLAT OUT Pack

I actually found that trophy much easier than some of the McRae challenges on Very Hard! Good video though, few sections where you are carrying more speed than me: will have to go back and try some more runs!

The 306 is my favourite as well: and the kit car class is easily my favourite FWD class in the game (though I do find the R2's fun to drive).

Yeah, it isn't the greatest for manufacturer support at the moment but, that said, I absolutely love the current specification cars! Just imagine taking a current specification car on some of the DR2.0 stages...

Not sure Kenny from the Block is the best example you could have given to prove your point there...

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Even if the WRC isn't in a great state, a Codemasters rally game with an expanded roster of historic 2.0L and 1.6L World Rally Cars is sure to be fantastic. I wonder if the new title(s) will fall under the "DiRT Rally" banner, or be released as "WRC"? I guess the former if rally and rallycross are still to fall under the same title.

Name a Graphical or Sound Effect in 2.0 that...

No. I have never crashed and lost a bonnet, so I couldn't possibly have found that out for myself... ...the E2 quattro sounds incredible, no matter how many times I go back to it, it never ceases to please me. The Group A Subarus both sound superb as well, absolutely nailed the flat four growl. The graphical effect that probably catches my eye the most is the dust: I frequently use the rear view in rallycross and am frequently impressed by the swirling dust clouds.

Well the ending of Gymkhana 10 suggested that the future of the series was with Pastrana, didn't it? Sure Block will dream up more ways to promote the Ford brand outside of the gymkhana series. As much as I want to see Pastrana thrashing a Scoob, I do wonder what else can be done now?

    Colin McRae: FLAT OUT Pack

Driving the Subaru I'll be quite happy. I swear I am never driving the Sierra Cossie after cracking New Zealand though, I had to switch the PS4 off earlier because I wanted to punch something.

    Colin McRae: FLAT OUT Pack

Trying to do some of these challenges in Very Hard is controller smashingly frustrating. I have repeatedly tried the two stage New Zealand challenge in the Sierra and am having to push so hard that I always slip up once and lose a second or two. It is making me mad!
  16. I see Lohéac has now been cancelled. Gutted, but an understandable decision.

I actually like driving the quattro. It is definitely a handful and, although it is laggy, I find the power delivery less brutal than the 205 T16.

Given that there isn't a BTCC section to the forum (maybe this should be in the GRiD section?) I am going to put this here: https://www.gtplanet.net/a-british-touring-car-championship-game-is-coming-in-2021-succeeds-original-toca/ Rumour of a CM BTCC game?
  21. I can't see that happening if I am honest. The left side of Hairy Hill is the only place that has space on the track and I can't see them building there. Would much rather they spent money on making the loose sections better.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Yeah, DiRT 4 certainly had the intention of pleasing both audiences but, for various reasons, seemed to miss both. Jack of all trades, master of none... ...certainly in recent years I think the DiRT franchise has correctly read the market, but the products haven't always hit the right note (specifically thinking of DiRT 4). Thing is, I thought - and still do think - that the idea behind DiRT 4 was solid: build a game on realistic foundations (for the DiRT Rally crowd) and put an arcade facade on it (for the DiRT 2/DiRT 3 players). I wonder if D4 would have been better received by the serious racing fanbase without My Stage? (which, again, I thought was a superb idea on paper as it seemed to directly address one of the most common critiques of DiRT Rally) I personally see DiRT 5 as acceptance from CM that you can't please everyone shoehorning everything into one title. DiRT 5 is free to be the mainstream arcade off road racer (which, based on the comments on social media, there definitely seems to be a market for), while DR 3 can be the focused simulator that most of us on the forum seem to want.
  23. Neil Cole is the only thing I dislike about the World RX coverage, I have never warmed to him. Yeah, Lydden finally got the planning permission they have been chasing for years earlier this year @ianism. That enables them to replace the existing paddock office building with a much larger structure that includes garages, VIP and media areas. They will also be reworking access to the site to address the flow of traffic before and after an event. The changes should address all the issues that caused Lydden to lose the World round in the first place.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Interesting to read how differently DiRT 4 was received by everyone. Perhaps that mixed view is the reason why, generally, D4 seems to be one of the least beloved entries into the series... ...personally I was under the impression that D4 was trying to be a serious off road game, which aimed to appease both the serious and casual gaming audiences. I wonder if it is the latter point (i.e. the broader appeal) that is the reason why people don't consider it a serious rally title? However it contained a roster of real cars, racing in real rally locales, plus an assortment of licensed rallycross content as well. D4 was developed in consultation with several well known drivers and, as has been said above by @F2CMaDMaXX I thought D4 made improvements in several areas, specifically the 4WD handling and airborne behaviour of cars (the biggest flaw of DiRT Rally in my personal opinion). The RWD handling did seem to take a step backwards though. The initial trailer for DiRT 5 certainly does strike chords of DiRT 2 in my mind: it seems bright, colourful and tonally similar. Although some (perhaps many) will disagree with me, DiRT 2 is the only game in the series I don't see as a serious rally game. I personally struggled to adjust to that at the time, as I found D2 FAR better to play than D1, but found the presentation a little OTT for my tastes (issues that D3 would go on to address). It is early days, so I'll wait to see if D5 has enough content to appeal to me. No matter how it turns out though, I am relieved to see that DiRT Rally has done well enough to standalone as its own series, with its own future.

Praise for DiRT Showdown? Is that allowed on the forum?... It was a plain blue WRC98 that I had in mind but, now you have mentioned it, I wondered if the driver allocation mentioned in the patch notes applied to any of the above drivers...
