Weren't it the lancia 037 and the Ford rs200?
-
Lancias might be known for self-destructing themselves in the UK but I think we can all agree Lancia (and Abarth) were damn good at making dominant rally cars. And I'm definitely not saying that 'cause I'm Italian. It makes it even sadder that the only car they're still producing is the Ypsilon :s ... Absolutely! I have huge respect for Lancia rally cars - and their history in the sport - but I have little desire to actually own one! Such a shame that the name is attached to such boring cars now. BTW I think the Stratos was fairly well known for being incredibly good at rallying and just that The Stratos was designed from scratch as a rally car. It is one of only three rally cars where the design started with a clean piece of paper and wasn't based on an existing model in the range. (Maximum nerd points if you know the other two)

Seeing more real rallycross tracks in another game makes me want more rallycross tracks in DiRT 4 even more! If you haven't tried ProjectCars2, the RallyX there is really quite good IMO, and it has a couple of interesting tracks that D4 doesn't have. The RallyX may be the best bits of the title (PC2) but, some of the other content is decent and may get better as the game gets patched over the course of the coming months. Apologies @Slowish, I missed this post! Given my disappointment with Gran Turismo Sport I am tempted to pick up another racing game instead and PC2 is top of the list at the moment.

The outline is from the whole track, not just the rallycross layout Ah, that explains it!

Finally got round to having a proper look through the albums posted by @urgaffel and @Kuris last night: excellent stuff and a timely reminder that I need to get my finger out and plan a trip! The Mitaka Subaru showroom is one of the first places I need to visit when I eventually get out there! My favorite car is that Celica ST185 and the Subarus looked really nice as well. Both cars had McRae's name on but can't say for sure if they were actually driven by him. Not that it matters to me, it was nice to see his name on those cars. On the assumption the number plates are legitimate, that is the Legacy Colin won the 1993 Rally New Zealand in and the Impreza that McRae drove in San Remo and Rally GB in 1998: so you have seen cars he actually drove @Kuris!

One of those ‘speed cross’ or whatever they called it tracks looked pretty similar to montalegre... There are some more familiar faces other than Montalegre Looks like Loheac, Hell, Trois Rivieres and Montalagre from the current World RX tracks, plus Franciacorta as well. I wonder if "Riga" is the Latvian World RX track as well? The outline there looks wrong? Oh, didn’t realise it was actually the real track, it just looked really bad in the video so I thought it was a knock off! I just listed what I can could see on that menu screen! I just watched the video and the clip shown at 2:45 definitely looks like (a rather poor representation) of the last series of corners at Montalagre. Interestingly the screen shots at 2:35 and 2:39 look exactly like Buxtehude to me. Seeing more real rallycross tracks in another game makes me want more rallycross tracks in DiRT 4 even more!

I posted that earlier and you completely ignored it! :D

Thanks, Tokyo is definitely worth to see and visit. Beautiful, clean and there's so much to see. There are a lot of different bits of Japanese culture I'd like to check out and Tokyo seems the best location to see as much of it in one place as possible. If and when I go to Japan though, I'd like to travel a bit to try and see as much of the country as possible. True. Next year I'm planning to go to Osaka and Kyoto and see what they are like and how they differ from each other. And finally from there to Tokyo for Tokyo Game Show, so that should be interesting. already counting days :D Good choice, we went to Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima two years ago. Osaka is a ton of fun and Kyoto is chilled out and Hiroshima is home to one of the most beautiful mountain shrines I've seen. Got a bunch of photos if you want a peek :) Yes, I believe we do. (Please!)

Sort of back on topic... but not really: http://www.wrc.com/en/wrc/news/november/new-polo-r5/page/4997--12-12-.html More details trickle out about the forthcoming Polo R5, which looks to arrive in the second half of 2018. I am a huge fan of the R5 class and I'm very keen to seem what VW can bring to the table.

Japan is ace, I've been there several times and definitely recommend it. /goes back to lurking Ha! Thanks for the recommendation @urgaffel! Thanks, Tokyo is definitely worth to see and visit. That is a seriously awesome collection @Kuris, great pictures as well! How was Tokyo? Japan is top of my "countries to visit" list!

But Dirt 4 would have been great if it had proper physics. I still personally rank D4 higher than DR because I don't fly 96,000 miles into orbit for looking at a bump in the road, which was a frequent occurence in DR. I am surprised that more people aren't identifying with this: the stages in DR are fantastically detailed, but the punishment when you running off line and get launched into low earth orbit is infuriating at times. I think I am "missing" some of the short comings of D4 as I spend most of my time racing in the 4WD classes but, for me, it's still a better overall package than DR.

Yeah, that's the risk @F2CMaDMaXX. You can of course check the shot on the back of the camera, but you never know if it's really sharp until you can look at it on the computer. I now try not to get excited by pictures when I take them, just in case they look like crap when I see them on a big screen! Continuing the massively off topic theme, the day after Rally Legend finished, there was a trip organised to K Sport: K Sport were responsible for the running a lot of the Lancias entered on the rally and their workshop was stuffed full of awesomeness: After we had seen downstairs they took us up to the "office". It was stuffed with Integrales, an 037, a Stratos and, in the far corner... ...and what could be better then one Delta S4? Two Delta S4! I believe the car on the right is for sale, so if any of you have recently won the lottery then get on the phone to K Sport!

The panning shots are done with slower shutter speeds @JZStudios. Faster shutter speeds will give you sharpness, but there will be no movement in the picture. You track the vehicle with the camera, matching its speed, then click off the shot. If you've got it right the subject will be sharp and the background is blurry. I tend to start with a "safe" speed (usually 1/125) and then see how much slower I can go keeping the subject as sharp as possible. Depending on the situation I can usually get to 1/80 or 1/60 before everything becomes a blurry mess. Some people seem to like the excessively blurry style, but I like at least some of the image to be sharp.

Off Topic(ish) Alert: So a couple of weekends ago I went to RallyLegend. It's an absolutely incredible event, with some of the best entries and most interesting rally stages I have been on. I was there with my missus and, as it was supposed to be a holiday, I didn't make much use of the camera. I did take a handful of pictures though, so here are a few... ...few more here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/22961613@N06/albums/72157688829702714 If any of you are interested in seeing any more pictures. If you do ever happen to find yourself in a position where you can get to RallyLegend, then I can't recommend it enough!

Vaguely DiRTy Gossip but, for anyone who can get hold of it (and this is probably limited to UK folks only), I'd highly recommend you check out issue #173 of Octane magazine: I'm probably biased because of the car involved, but there is an excellent feature on Pat Doran's rallycross RS200. This car is the basis of the rallycross RS200 in DiRT 4 (though I guess CM were using DiRT 2 era pictures for the car as it appears in D4) and there is a write up on how it is to drive. I don't normally read it, but a mate of mine had a copy of the magazine in the middle of a stack of paper and I happened to notice that it said "Rallycross RS200" on the spine!

Fantastic result for Evans and M-Sport. I was torn on Ogier winning at the start of the year, but he hasn't run away with the Championship and it's been a great title fight: though it is a shame to see it over with a round to go! That said, with the title secure, I'd like to Ogier go for broke in Australia. Difficult to make any guesses for 2018 until we figure out who is going where, Neuville is surely going to be determined to beat Ogier though! -
Going back to the earlier conversation @gfRally it looks like the EscCos has got a new livery and is one of the cars to be used in Gymkhana 10... https://youtu.be/xpB25Cn-vXA ...I hope one of the others is the RS200 Block brought a couple of years ago!

I'd like to see Ogier take at least one more win this year to really "earn" the title. Wales looks like it's going to be epic though, wish I was going to be there! -
Got back from Italy this afternoon. Rally Legend 2017 was an absolutely incredible event, one of, if not the best rally I have been too. So many memorable moments and, although the McRae tribute on Sunday was great, watching the night stage through San Marino on Friday night was just perfection.

Real shame to see Tanak moving. He has been brilliant to watch this year and its been great to have such a likeable driver in the Fiesta. -
Without meaning to sound too biased (because I vastly prefer European rallycross), this doesn't look like serious competition to DiRT 4 at the moment: just two cars (one of which appears to be a rally car) and I assume a selection of GRC tracks which, in my personal opinion, are rather dull compared to their European counterparts. Still, nice to see rallycross popping up in another game!

Means that one (or many) factors could prevent what has been said from happening.
