DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I played the hell out of it at the time - and of the first three DiRT games I still think D1 has the best locations - but, for me, it has the most unnatural car handling of all the games in the series.  Damn, and I thought I was being harsh with my appraisal of the game! It pains me to be so negative about a Gran Turismo title as its been one of the few game series that I have stuck with from day one. Every game has had it's minor flaws, but changing the major underpinning of the game seems bonkers.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

How about GT Sport? I had a busy week, wanted to try it today and what did I found? Servers are down till the release, game won't save in offline mode, no singleplayer carreer mode. New GT is basically "dead on arrival" for me. https://youtu.be/S0UvJZmGTsk?t=24s Back to DiRT Rally and DiRT 4. The demo was over the 13th at 14:00 PDT. So maybe you tried after the deadline. I just had another look at it (having downloaded it earlier in the week) and that is the message I am seeing, so I think @badaboum528 is right and you tried too late @SergeyTokarev... ...that said, I played it for a couple of evenings and, for the most part, I was pretty disappointed. I already knew that there were less options than previous GT games, but I didn't realize that the only SP content that is part of the game career is the license tests: all the races are online. Graphically it looks superb and the audio on the few cars I tried sounds way better than previous GT games, but what is the point in that when the only way to progress through the game hinges on whether you can find decent people to race with?   I have bought every GT game either on, or just after, release. GT Sport is the first one I have no desire to purchase. Given how much GT6 was expanded on post-release I hope they do the same with GT Sport. If they were to add in a lot of SP (i.e. career) content, then I could be won back. For now though, my money is going elsewhere.

That's a real shame if it's true: I was hoping to see Tanak flying again in the Fiesta next year.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I've seen about 5 of their videos, 3 of which involved people slamming into things because they're idiots, and decided not to watch any more. I also really hate the "I'm going to film something on my smartphone and upload it to a "professional" YouTube page." I avoided The Hoonigans channel for a while, but I started watching their videos a few months ago and there is actually some pretty decent content on the channel. There are a few factual errors in there (like in that EscCos video), but they cover some pretty cool cars.  I do agree with you about the filming with phones thing though: it does strike me as a bit amateurish when these channels are trying to portray themselves as professionals!

*ahem* My bad. I don't know why so many people have a problem with Block. He's a nice guy and a really good a driver. I like him because he just doesn't care what other people think. Its cool that he can participate in almost any motorsport he wants to and, the most important thing, having fun while doing what he likes. Its been fun watching him in Rally and Rallycross. I certainly don't have any problem with Block. The guy is clearly passionate about rally and, if I had his resources and sponsors, I'd be doing exactly the same as him! As I said a few posts earlier, the PR behind Block has portrayed him as a "driving god" and, in the eyes of the uninformed masses, they see him as one of the greats. Those who know a bit more about motorsport, specifically rally, know that, although Block certainly isn't talentless, he isn't the best in the World. Funny thing is, when interviewed, Block comes across as pretty humble: all the flashy PR is paying for him to participate in the best rally and rallycross Championships alongside the greatest drivers in the World: few get a chance to do that and, if any genuine motorsport fan had the same opportunity, I'm sure they would take it!  Anyway, getting back on topic, that was a much needed result for Meeke and Citroen. Another very solid performance from Tanak as well. Would like to see Ogier take another win this year to really "deserve" the title, but I guess he will be playing it safe in order to rack up the points.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I believe a new livery was mentioned in the original blurb about the car but, for now at least, it's just pure white. (and I think all rally cars look their best in plain colours, hence why my own livery in DiRT 4 is plain white!)

*ahem* I thought that was the case (though I think he might have posted a few top stage times in class when he ran WRC events in the Group N Impreza?) On the subject of Block, I see he has just revealed his latest toy... ...like him or not, you can't deny he buys the best toys!

Agreed. Unless there are major changes to come at Citroen I think Ogier would be mad to change teams now: let's hope M-Sport is where the Ford money is going! If block goes to WRC he Will do some rallys not all the championship, Ogier, Tanak and Suninen or Evans will be in the team, maybe Evans Dmack car Will not take part from the Factory team and Suninen will be in the third car Block is a great competitor here in the US, but doesn't stand a chance seriously competing in WRC.   I know but he can do what he wants, and I didnt said he was competitive I don't think anyone on the forum is under the illusion that Block will be challenging for any WRC wins. I have said it before, but the PR behind Block is his best friend and worst enemy: it's what pays for his drives, but it often results in alienating the established rally fans. Agreed. Block could, with the right equipment, be a serious challenger for the Rally America title and give the SRT USA guys some decent competition: that's what I'd like to see him do. Oh really? I didn't know Block had taken any stage wins in the WRC (not when he was in a WRCar anyway).

It is the same, the Cars go back to HQ after a Rally, so if Rally México follows or not a Northern American Rally is the same ;) . I think Rally México could be replaced with a Rally in USA or Canada, and it also could attract Ford to finally back M-Sport Why don't Ford back M-Sport already? Seems like the thing to do I mean M-Sport is leading the championship by a good margin. There is official Ford backing for M-Sport for the R2, R5 and rallycross cars, just not for the WRC programme. It's a hell of an investment and, with the decline in interest a few years ago, I can see why Ford tightened the purse strings... ...the Championship is getting so much attention this year though, it would see a good time for them to start supporting the upper tier of rallying again! R2 and R5? I didnt see any factory R2 or R5, R5 "Factory" Fiesta's are M-Sport, like Tanak's car. And R2 are backed by drivers. Individual entries aren't backed, but the development of the R2 and R5 Fiesta is financially supported by Ford. The Focus RS RX developed for Hoonigan Racing is an officially back Ford effort.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

After years of neglect AI is starting to get some proper attention and matters to games trying to be more realistic. Hopefully using AI as mobile chicanes for a gameplay style of bashing to the front from the back in two laps will become a thing of the past and games will be judged on how human like the AI is - after all that is what the science of artificial intelligence is all about! Far from perfect maybe, the AI in PC2 was shaping up well in the WMD testing prior to the release version tomorrow. I kind of want to pick up an old Xbox and the original Forza. Maybe it's because I was a kid and didn't know much, but the physics and AI I found to be more than adequate. Didn't randomly slam the brakes or drive off the road all the time, which the new "drivatars" do. In other news, FM7 is apparently shaping up rather poorly, which is quite disappointing. Not sure where/how/when/why they seemingly just started going way off track. I was 15 or 16 when I laid eyes on Gran Turismo and I can still remember the day my mate and I first saw it running in store: we were both stood gawping at the screen for a good few minutes before we picked up the controllers, our tiny minds blown by the graphics we were seeing... ...I revisited the first GT not long ago and it looks pretty terrible now! The handling was certainly better than most games of the era, but I don't think you always realize how much things have progressed.   That said, I spend as much of my gaming time now playing 16 Bit games as I do current-gen stuff!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I recall reading an article about the team behind Project Cars (in particular Ian Bell) a few years ago and they sounded like a bunch of crooks. I briefly played the first Project Cars (on PlayStation 4) and wasn't that impressed. I believe there have been a number of patches and tweaks since then, but with the stigma attached to the developers I have never looked at the game again.  PC2 does look good - and the lure of rallycross content is strong - but I will be looking at GT Sport before I consider PC2.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Hmm.... It's hard to say something without being too obvious. I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange: logs Isn't the DirtFish compound called twin peaks in the files? Would make sense as with the random stage generator, that's the only place that is always the same... I thought DirtFish was the most obvious place to find it, but I haven't noticed it whilst messing round with any cars there... ...that said, most of my time in DirtFish has been spent throwing cars sideways, not looking for signs!

    2020 FIA World Rally Championship

I have already said it in the thread, but Tanak has been the driver of 2017 for me. I really hope he is rewarded with a decent drive for 2018: would be brilliant to see him in the Fiesta again.  That's an interesting note on the Fiesta R5. Car development moves so quickly that it only seems to take a few years before the "support" classes have the same capabilities as the premier class cars.

    2020 FIA World Rally Championship

I think it's pretty incredible how the situation has reversed itself in WRC. Just a few years ago and the choice to move to Citroen would seem to be an obvious one. Given the performance of the C3 WRC - and some of the decisions made by the Citroen management in 2017 - it would be the last team I'd be looking at right now!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I don't recall a huge amount of dev presence on the forum post-D2 release (though that was a while ago, so I may be forgetting something). D3 did have some interaction, though as I recall it was mainly to tell us what had happened (i.e. what was finished and when it was going to be released), rather than telling us about what was coming (or asking what we wanted).  DiRT Rally was obviously the difference but, much like the release of the game, the approach taken for DR was rather unorthodox. I think the openness of DR spoiled us somewhat!

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

GT had one of those, they went to Namibia. Also, on TG they didn't have them every season, more often they happened every other season The Grand Tour season 1 special was the turning point in the season to me: I struggled to watch that - and each subsequent episode - as the scripting seemed to be even more painfully obvious with each feature. The editing on the Namibia special was shocking, I know it is supposed to be a bit of fun, but it was beyond stupid in places.  My highlight of season one, by a considerable margin, was the feature James May did on the GT40: a stunningly shot film on an absolutely beautiful car.  I watched the first season and was, for the most part, very disappointed. I hope season 2 will be an improvement, the inclusion of a 037 is a step in the right direction! Yeah, GT lost some of the TG flair, it really felt a bit americanized, but maybe they've learned for season 2. Also watched the new TG, which also wasn't as good as the old, but they seem to learn and focus more on Rory and Chris (H. not Evans), who might really make TG their own now. What I really miss are those specials though. Anyone seen the TG North Pole, Patagonia, Birma, River Nile or Botswana Specials ? Those were the days I thought the second season of "new" Top Gear was a huge improvement. I am a massive fan of Chris Harris, so I was pleased to see him getting a more prominent role. I am sure with more time the banter between them will become more natural (as it did for Clarkson, May and Hammond), I look forward to season three.  There were a few duds (most notably the Indian special) but some of the TG specials were superb: I think Vietnam is probably my fave! I watched the first season and was, for the most part, very disappointed. I hope season 2 will be an improvement, the inclusion of a 037 is a step in the right direction! Yeah, GT lost some of the TG flair, it really felt a bit americanized, but maybe they've learned for season 2. What I really miss are those specials though. Anyone seen the TG North Pole, Patagonia, Birma, River Nile or Botswana Specials ? Those were the days I remember a time when being Americanized was a good thing...  I wish everyone didn't hate the general population (like me) of America so much, sorry if other countries think they are better.  I say we all have our issues, stupid politicians (all of them) and hate, thats planet earths problem.   EDIT: Sorry... didn't mean to jump on YOU in for the comment, I guess best to stay silent when I'm in a bad mood..  Have a nice day In the context of The Grand Tour, I think "Americanized" is a bit unfair. Top Gear features have always been scripted, but as time went on the scripting became less and less subtle. Aside from a couple of features, the last couple of seasons of Clarkson/May/Hammond Top Gear weren't that great. I hoped that with much bigger budgets, they were be able to do more "open" features: if anything, the problem got worse though. As I mentioned above, the Namibia special was painfully obvious throughout. I think they are going to announce an officially licensed gymkhana mode. It's what all the rally fans want.
