"most iconic" is highly subjective. (And probably dependent on age) I don't find the Escort 'most iconic' at all... it's a often used car from that era but overall not more important than the Stratos or Quattro or Mini or RS200. To me, the most iconic rally car would be the '99 Impreza, but it's subjective. "It's just like... your opinion, man." I have a feeling that you've just started the debate of the year. :joy: Police were called to the DiRTy Gossip thread this afternoon to prevent a massive riot. When asked about the cause of the riot, fingers were pointed at @Busterbvi for raising potentially the most subjective question in rallying ever.

FIIIIIIIIIIIRE!

This is interesting, though not that surprising. What was considered the peak of rallying years ago is often seen as "slow" by modern standards. Absolutely. Coupled with improvements in transmission, it's the reason that the Group B stage times were matched (and then beaten) so quickly: all that power is wasted if you aren't putting it to the ground effectively...

This sort of thing makes me so mad. I love to get pictures of the cars in action, but dumb behavior like this is the sort of thing that is going to get the public locked out of rally events.
-
Looking at the preview video that was posted, I didn't see any mention of Citroen. The car is listed as "DS3" and the logo on display was the "DS" symbol, not Citroen...

Fantastic start from Meeke: only one stage lost to Ogier so far and that was due to slowing for Tanak! After a shaky start from Citroen, can the C3 deliver again? -
Sadly because Audi did not officially support the Group B Rallycross as a factory team we couldn't licence it. Same reason we couldn't get the EKS RX car.As for the 242 - one day it will happen ;) But since Audi now officially supports the EKS cars, could we maybe see them one day as DLC? From now on the possibilty is there That's brilliant to read: fingers crossed for the S1 in future!
-
Licensing perhaps? The quattro wasn't that successful in the heyday of Group B rallycross either.

Would rather see the '06 Subaru Impreza 'Hawkeye' WRC instead of the C4 in the 2000's class. Agreed! (Though the '07 Hawkeye WRC would be even better, as the '06 was a bit of a dog!)

*And yes, that is also going to drive me mad. At least I know it isn't just me! :D The naming is what the manufacturers have told us to use. There will be one classic livery per car. Thanks for the confirmation @KickUp! Pretty interesting to read that is direct from the manufacturers, you always seem to be conscious of the fine details so I was surprised that little things like that would be allowed to slip through. Sorry again to critique on something so trivial!

Further to my previous post, assuming that what is shown in the video is the car list for the final build, it's fantastic to see all the cars that were listed on the community day last year have made it through licensing and are now in the game. Based on the video, I have a few (exceptionally trivial) questions for @KickUp... - The Group B Audi is denoted as "S1 E2" in the video: will this be fixed to the correct "E2" for the final release, or are you going to leave it as "S1 E2" to drive all the car nerds* mad? - The Sierra is denoted as "RS500", but I don't believe the RS500 was ever a rally car. Is this designation intentional? - Can we expect to see many classic rallycross liveries for the Group B rallycross cars? * Yes, that is going to me.
-
On the assumption this is a final build, this gives us a complete car list! 35 rally cars (plus the Hyundai i20 R5) 16 rallycross cars 3 landrush cars
-
There are many possible scenarios. DiRT 4 is still two months away from release and @KickUp is already sowing the seeds of future DiRTy Gossip!

A bit late for it, but have you guys noticed the AI in rallycross? As the video shows, to me it seems way far from the "passiveness" of Dirt Rally, the way the AI cars overtake each other, do little errors and try to be aggressive really bring the feel you are actually driving in the real Wrx championship. Kudos to codemasters on that. Oh yeah, and the sound of the cars and sunny Wales <3 My only critique with the rallycross - and this is so minor that it is barely worth mentioning - is that all the cars pull up to the grid together, which isn't how it happens it real life. I wouldn't expect to see each car warm its tyres and pull up to the line (as I'm sure players would get bored of that), but perhaps showing all the cars in place and then the last car lining would would be a good compromise... ...having said that, I doubt the vast majority of players will care about such a trivial detail!

Very close times so, as already said above, impossible to say at this stage! Can't wait to see these cars going at it again this weekend, I'm so pleased that the WRC has already become such gripping viewing! -
So much so, that Julie Andrews twirling on a nearby hill would not look out of place :D The hills are alive, with the sound of anti-lag.

Well I saw DiRT 4 at Barcelona at the weekend (and also caught a few members of the team, who didn't blank me this time! ). The rallycross from the game was setup in the PSRXVW tent, was playable and I was told all the available rallycross cars were in... ...Unfortunately it was surrounded by people every time I went past (and only catered for wheel snobs ), so I didn't get a chance to have a go! Seemed to be getting a lot of positive response though, so good news for all the rallycross players on here!

For example: some car/motorsport games advertise huge rosters of exotic cars to drive - but they don't tell you that those cars cost more in-game currency than you could ever hope to earn, and you may only get access to 20% (or less) of all those advertised cars (unless you grind away for the next 97 years of your life just to save up enough in-game currency to buy/unlock all those cars). I am in maximum agreement with this point! As much as I have enjoyed playing all the Gran Turismo games,, I rarely end up buying all the cars I want, as I just haven't got the time (or inclination) to keep grinding away to raise enough cash.

Beautiful take off, good rotation and a flat landing.

While we are waiting for DiRT 4, here is a flying Trophy Truck... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D94uZPKQcA ...not the best "Recoil" video, but it does make me keen to play with the Pro trucks in DiRT 4!

:D As I would prefer to not be deemed "very old" yet, I would like to think that technology has, in some areas, progressed very quickly. I'm in my early 30's now and I'm sure the floppy disk was still in heavy usage when I was 20, so it isn't that long ago. Ditto for the VCR as well. I had my last CRT TV well over 5 years ago though, so you are behind there @789ifyz!

Were you referring to my post? If so: In Australia atm there are many options and plenty of isp's that offer unlimited plans for reasonable prices. Some people still choose limited plans I guess, but I I think that's nuts in this day and age and so my plan is unlimited. I remember when as a family we had a 1GB a month limit, seems so tiny now! Memory and storage is the thing that still amazes me. A few years ago* we were struggling to fit a single .jpeg image on a floppy disk. I remember paying a fortune for a 1 GB memory stick just a few years ago and being astounded that I could fit a handful of (blocky) videos on it... ...now memory is ridiculously cheap and you can have an entire library of high quality music and video on a dinky little memory card. *Alright, it was quite a lot of years ago.

That would be 34723 floppy disks (+/- 100) Still less discs than X-Wing: swear I spent more time changing discs than I did playing that game.

I like variety. I grew up on stories of V16 BRMs and CanAm McLarens, but also of weird things like the Howmet and Rover turbine cars. The Audi diesels at Le Mans were fascinating to me, because they were competing with V12 Aston Martins. CanAm McLarens (and CanAm cars in general) have to rank among the greatest sounding cars to ever take to the track. An M8F is the only car in thirty years that has made me put my hands on my ears at a motorsport event, as it reverberated around the grandstand at Spa Classic a few years ago. It's criminal how little raw footage there is of the Can-Am series. I can't imagine how good those races must have sounded!
