I like variety. I grew up on stories of V16 BRMs and CanAm McLarens, but also of weird things like the Howmet and Rover turbine cars. The Audi diesels at Le Mans were fascinating to me, because they were competing with V12 Aston Martins. CanAm McLarens (and CanAm cars in general) have to rank among the greatest sounding cars to ever take to the track. The Audi diesels are a great comparison, it was surreal to see them at Le Mans as they were unbelievably fast, but almost completely silent. I prefer the later LMP Hybrids, as at least you get some engine noise with them. Also, silent rally cars would be incredibly dangerous. The only time I've felt scared at a rally was a near silent Land Rover course car flying round a corner near me. Electric cars could also be dangerous in the case of accidents, in the context of fans getting involved (although I'm happy to admit I'm no expert in this and if organisers told me otherwise I'd bow to their knowledge). Obviously, this doesn't necessarily affect rallycross, but that holds no interest to me! Yeah, I honestly don't see how fully electric could be implemented in a rally car, as range would surely be an issue. Hybrids are pretty interesting idea though as, if the technology were to be implemented in a similar fashion to something like the McLaren P1, electric power could be used for torque filling. That would quite likely reduce (or even eliminate) the need for anti-lag though: so that would be a bad thing! And for anyone who is questioning performance, here is the STARD Hiper, the Worlds first electric rallycross car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5844VCjRpv0 Impossible to put exact figures on its performance from a video alone, but it certainly doesn't look slow!

Yeah, the absence of sound is what concerns me most @JZStudios. The technology seems very appropriate for rallycross but (to me anyway) ,a significant portion of the spectacle of rallycross comes from sound, especially in the case of the Supercars. Electric Supercars would likely be as quick, but I don't think it will be as spectacular without the pops, bangs and turbo flutter.

Pfffft. I remember waiting for tapes to load on the Vic 20. 25 minutes of squealing noise and the bloody thing still failed...

Not strictly DiRTy Gossip, but I just posted a season preview blog for the 2017 World Rallycross Championship. If you are bored and have time to kill, then give it a click! http://fueltopia.co.uk/world-rallycross-championship-2017-preview/

Polo RX confirmed I believe the rallycross cars in game will be 2016 season cars (certainly all the images we have seen thus far are), so I think Petter will be in his DS3 in DiRT 4, not a Polo.

What throws a wrench in the works is Toyota owns 10% of Subaru Incorrect. Subaru allowed Toyota to own 10% of brilliance. ;)

Dirtfish has BRZ's, any chance we'll see them in DiRT4? Would love some modern RWD's Screw the BR-Z, I want the Toyota 86 instead  Now that you mention it - how would the licensing work on the Toyobaru Twins? We're not allowed to have Toyotas, but would the BRZ get by because it's *kind of* a Subaru? That's a good question: both manufacturers seem to treat them as their "own" car, so I think they might get away with that. Would be good if they did... ...because we all know Subaru is better than Toyota anyway. ;)

This sounds like a diversion tactic to me. I'm sticking with the convoluted DiRTY Gossip theory.

real life 2020 FIA World Rally Championship

I would hate to see any driver punished for something that was out of their hands, but a part of me was hoping that they would penalize him so he would have to drive even harder to regain those points! To be quite honest a part of me was hoping for that aswell. Ogier hunting from behind would be a nice change of pace instead. Now he's back at the lead, where he can drive comfortably as long as he beats the 2nd place in the championship. And tactical driving like that is one of his major strengths. Absolutely. The moments where Ogier has been under pressure and had to drive on the limit have been spectacular to watch. As you say, I'd like to see that Ogier rather than comfortable driving Ogier! -

I had been hoping for more rallycross info but, having read about it now, I'm very keen to see more of the team aspect of the game! It's coming! :) We'll in Barcelona at the end of the month, and we're hoping to do loads while we're out there. :) You are? Sounds promising, hopefully you won't all blank me if I pass you in the pits again @ChristinaMc! Are you there?! Promise I won't blank you - I know what you look like now!... :) I am indeed @ChristinaMc! Will definitely be at four World rounds this year (possibly five, though number five is subject to funding at the moment!). ^ Yeah, that.

That's how I understood it as well. The number of possible combinations with Your Stage is going to be vastly greater than that!

Even better when Meeke was involved*... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzxS-3vO6Gw * No car parks were harmed in the making of this video.

The staff are all very friendly there and the tea making facilities were good. However I was disappointed by the lack of kebab pizza on site.

The game being developed by former Evo has already been confirmed to be a new racing IP. So not GRID. Oh ok interesting, maybe its something similar to Motorstorm then, Baja racing of some sort? DiRTYSTORM! You must have missed the part where Christina told us what the game was when we were having burgers! I was down the other end of the table, missed out on this juicy goss!! Damn, I missed that bit of gossip as well!

Hope so, I'd like to see more of Montalage and Loheac in their finished glory... ...and hopefully some Group B rallycross cars in action as well!
-
That's a shocking clip.

"Rally good fun".

The R5's are the rally cars I'm most looking forward to. R5 is such a key category at both national and international level now, I can't wait to see CM's representation of the R5 cars in game.
-
Yeah, it's the car from American rally. I think they're using R5 loosely here, because the car is working with much looser regulations than R5. Yeah, the US "Open" regulations are much looser than their FiA equivalents!
-
That's the car that was used in the US, isn't it? I always thought that "R5 2 litre" was a confusing classification for that car, as the regulations of R5 prohibit engines bigger than 1.6L, so the description seems like a contradiction in terms.
