Would rather see the '06 Subaru Impreza 'Hawkeye' WRC instead of the C4 in the 2000's class.
Agreed! (Though the '07 Hawkeye WRC would be even better, as the '06 was a bit of a dog!) -

Further to my previous post, assuming that what is shown in the video is the car list for the final build, it's fantastic to see all the cars that were listed on the community day last year have made it through licensing and are now in the game.
Based on the video, I have a few (exceptionally trivial) questions for @KickUp...
- The Group B Audi is denoted as "S1 E2" in the video: will this be fixed to the correct "E2" for the final release, or are you going to leave it as "S1 E2" to drive all the car nerds* mad?
- The Sierra is denoted as "RS500", but I don't believe the RS500 was ever a rally car. Is this designation intentional?
- Can we expect to see many classic rallycross liveries for the Group B rallycross cars?
* Yes, that is going to me.
The naming is what the manufacturers have told us to use.
There will be one classic livery per car.
Thanks for the confirmation @KickUp! Pretty interesting to read that is direct from the manufacturers, you always seem to be conscious of the fine details so I was surprised that little things like that would be allowed to slip through. Sorry again to critique on something so trivial!

A bit late for it, but have you guys noticed the AI in rallycross? As the video shows, to me it seems way far from the "passiveness" of Dirt Rally, the way the AI cars overtake each other, do little errors and try to be aggressive really bring the feel you are actually driving in the real Wrx championship. Kudos to codemasters on that.
Oh yeah, and the sound of the cars and sunny Wales <3
My only critique with the rallycross - and this is so minor that it is barely worth mentioning - is that all the cars pull up to the grid together, which isn't how it happens it real life.
I wouldn't expect to see each car warm its tyres and pull up to the line (as I'm sure players would get bored of that), but perhaps showing all the cars in place and then the last car lining would would be a good compromise...
...having said that, I doubt the vast majority of players will care about such a trivial detail! -
Very close times so, as already said above, impossible to say at this stage! Can't wait to see these cars going at it again this weekend, I'm so pleased that the WRC has already become such gripping viewing! -

Well I saw DiRT 4 at Barcelona at the weekend (and also caught a few members of the team, who didn't blank me this time! ).
The rallycross from the game was setup in the PSRXVW tent, was playable and I was told all the available rallycross cars were in...
...Unfortunately it was surrounded by people every time I went past (and only catered for wheel snobs
), so I didn't get a chance to have a go! Seemed to be getting a lot of positive response though, so good news for all the rallycross players on here!

I am in maximum agreement with this point! As much as I have enjoyed playing all the Gran Turismo games,, I rarely end up buying all the cars I want, as I just haven't got the time (or inclination) to keep grinding away to raise enough cash.Operator1 said:
For example: some car/motorsport games advertise huge rosters of exotic cars to drive - but they don't tell you that those cars cost more in-game currency than you could ever hope to earn, and you may only get access to 20% (or less) of all those advertised cars (unless you grind away for the next 97 years of your life just to save up enough in-game currency to buy/unlock all those cars). -
Beautiful take off, good rotation and a flat landing.Porkhammer said:Never did see the appeal of those, myself... but on the topic of trophy trucks, I did record the Dirt 2 AI doing something nutty a couple of years back:

:D As I would prefer to not be deemed "very old" yet, I would like to think that technology has, in some areas, progressed very quickly.789ifyz said:I feel like the age of some of these technologies is often exaggerated, though, in that if you remember/used floppy discs then it's assumed you're very old. My sister's only 15 and she very clearly remembers the VCR and large video cassettes and audio cassettes, and my brother who turned 18 this month still remembers the floppy discs.
These things may not be quite as old as the impression I get from the internet would suggest.
Then again, we were still using an old box TV until about 2-3 years ago, so it may just be that we're just really late to the 21st century...
I'm in my early 30's now and I'm sure the floppy disk was still in heavy usage when I was 20, so it isn't that long ago. Ditto for the VCR as well. I had my last CRT TV well over 5 years ago though, so you are behind there @789ifyz! -
Memory and storage is the thing that still amazes me. A few years ago* we were struggling to fit a single .jpeg image on a floppy disk. I remember paying a fortune for a 1 GB memory stick just a few years ago and being astounded that I could fit a handful of (blocky) videos on it...SirPhilMcKraken said:
I remember when as a family we had a 1GB a month limit, seems so tiny now!Rygar86 said:
Were you referring to my post? If so: In Australia atm there are many options and plenty of isp's that offer unlimited plans for reasonable prices. Some people still choose limited plans I guess, but I I think that's nuts in this day and age and so my plan is unlimited.F2CMaDMaXX said:I'm curious, you guys still getting planked on download charges/limits?
...now memory is ridiculously cheap and you can have an entire library of high quality music and video on a dinky little memory card.
*Alright, it was quite a lot of years ago. -
Still less discs than X-Wing: swear I spent more time changing discs than I did playing that game.Didzis said:

It's criminal how little raw footage there is of the Can-Am series. I can't imagine how good those races must have sounded!RodgerDavies said:tbtstt said:

An M8F is the only car in thirty years that has made me put my hands on my ears at a motorsport event, as it reverberated around the grandstand at Spa Classic a few years ago. -

The Audi diesels are a great comparison, it was surreal to see them at Le Mans as they were unbelievably fast, but almost completely silent. I prefer the later LMP Hybrids, as at least you get some engine noise with them.
Yeah, I honestly don't see how fully electric could be implemented in a rally car, as range would surely be an issue. Hybrids are pretty interesting idea though as, if the technology were to be implemented in a similar fashion to something like the McLaren P1, electric power could be used for torque filling. That would quite likely reduce (or even eliminate) the need for anti-lag though: so that would be a bad thing!RodgerDavies said:
Also, silent rally cars would be incredibly dangerous. The only time I've felt scared at a rally was a near silent Land Rover course car flying round a corner near me. Electric cars could also be dangerous in the case of accidents, in the context of fans getting involved (although I'm happy to admit I'm no expert in this and if organisers told me otherwise I'd bow to their knowledge). Obviously, this doesn't necessarily affect rallycross, but that holds no interest to me!
And for anyone who is questioning performance, here is the STARD Hiper, the Worlds first electric rallycross car:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5844VCjRpv0
Impossible to put exact figures on its performance from a video alone, but it certainly doesn't look slow! -
Yeah, the absence of sound is what concerns me most @JZStudios. The technology seems very appropriate for rallycross but (to me anyway) ,a significant portion of the spectacle of rallycross comes from sound, especially in the case of the Supercars.JZStudios said:Working with electric motors a fair amount, they're not a great sound. The whole track would either be the sound of a cat fart or a high pitched whine.
Electric Supercars would likely be as quick, but I don't think it will be as spectacular without the pops, bangs and turbo flutter. -
Pfffft. I remember waiting for tapes to load on the Vic 20. 25 minutes of squealing noise and the bloody thing still failed...SirPhilMcKraken said:Although who remembers back in the day the GTA VC and SA loading bars taking forever? I believe the rallycross cars in game will be 2016 season cars (certainly all the images we have seen thus far are), so I think Petter will be in his DS3 in DiRT 4, not a Polo.KevM said:

That's a good question: both manufacturers seem to treat them as their "own" car, so I think they might get away with that. Would be good if they did...BadD0g said:
Now that you mention it - how would the licensing work on the Toyobaru Twins? We're not allowed to have Toyotas, but would the BRZ get by because it's *kind of* a Subaru?RookieOne said:

Licensing perhaps? The quattro wasn't that successful in the heyday of Group B rallycross either.
