Flagged for Impreza spelling error.789ifyz said:Since some people have made some very slightly off-topic comments now, I think I'll make my contribution to the derailing of this thread and then mention something that's somewhat related in some way shape or form.
Here goes:
So, a couple of days ago, I was discussing with someone a character with no surname by the name of Jason, who I randomly called Jason Todd, and then I thought, "hold on a sec, that name sounds bair familiar". The next morning, while drinking tea, I suddenly clocked: Jason Todd is (the) Robin (who becomes the Red) Hood (read American Murderous Robin Hood).
What does this have to do with anything?
Well, it's just a tale I wanted to share, and one that just so happens to include an escape made in what I believe was the Subaru Focus Evo XImprezza S1 E22B WRX STimpressive Quattro Roulette.
In case anyone doesn't get this age old joke, here's a meme:
You are now free to flag this comment as many times as you wish. I'll just go sit in a corner pretending I don't exist for a while. -
Funny reversal in situation: last year Volkswagen were crying about other manufacturers only partially running the Championship! -
Nomenclature debate is a speciality of the DiRTy Gossip thread, of course it was going to get debated! :smiley:RodgerDavies said:Aye, sorry, I wasn't meaning to debate the nomenclature, just to point out that the car was specifically mentioned on Steam, and I'd only seen it rumoured on here. -
Perhaps. The Delta S4 and Peugeot 205 T16 were the best cars of the era in real life though, so I would still expect them to be the quickest cars in class in game.KingOfCoins said:That is what I was thinking too. It would level out the field in the group B class.
Be nice to see the E2 get the Codemasters treatment though: a correct visual representation and the proper audio to go with it. Something that Polyphony seemingly couldn't figure out... -
Ah, I missed that! In which case we could have our answer!bogani said:
One of the Group B cars was said to be getting an "overhaul".tbtstt said:RodgerDavies said:Back on topic...
I know it's already been stated here somewhere probably, but I hadn't noticed before that the Steam page explicitly states the inclusion of the 'Audi Sport quattro S1 E2'
I was pondering this last night: I joked about the "S1 E2" error when the initial press release came out, but it didn't occur to me that, if hillclimb isn't returning, that must mean the E2 will be the Audi in the Group B class? Perhaps @KickUp can confirm if that's correct?KingOfCoins said:Wait S1E2? Isn't it just E2? What's next? they're going to reveal the 22B?
or maybe it's a little inside joke?
Now I'm waiting for a kebabpizza refrence.
Going to miss the S1 if that's the case (I personally think it's a better looking car), but everyone does love the E2 aero...

As said by @KevM, M-Sport seem pretty competent at churning out cars for paying customers: it's what funds the main WRC program after all!RallyDriven said:
Anyone else find find it odd that M-sport have made 4 fiestas in the time it's taken Citroen to make 2 C3's? Especially since they weren't even competing properly last year! -
No time for that: you'll have to DLC to get started on... :smiley:KickUp said:
Nothing planned yet. Maybe I'll be able to sleep ;)SirPhilMcKraken said:@KickUp, have you got anything planned yet for the Dirt 4 release day? Anything also going to be at Rallyday 2017? -
Can't wait for Sweden. More 2017 specification cars in the mix, going to be really interesting to see how Ostberg fares in the Fiesta. -
Unless something has changed, I believe both the Super 1600 and Lites will be in DiRT 4 @RodgerDavies. Perhaps @KickUp can confirm that.RodgerDavies said:- RX S1600 replaced with RX Lites
Evo IX wasn't in DiRT Rally?RodgerDavies said:- Mitsubishi Evo IX R4 removed
Applying the "N" classification is tricky now Prodrive are no longer building cars, their last few revisions were not annual and the latest car is for a different regulation. The R4 Impreza in DiRT Rally would have been an N14/N15 or N16, therefore N17 sort of applies for the new NR4 car.RodgerDavies said:- Subaru Impreza N12 R4 replaced with N14
At this stage though, I think the "N" moniker can be dropped. -
+1 points for @Dytut. @warpengage, go and sit on the naughty step. :smiley:Dytut said:
Do you mean the.... Quattro E2? *trollface*warpengage said:So, for those wondering, the Group B cars will be same as DiRT Rally, with one makeover, as was said:
- Opel Manta 400
- Lancia 037 Evo II
- Lancia Delta S4
- Peugeot 205 T16 Evo II
- MG Metro 6R4
- Ford RS200
- Audi Quattro S1 Evo II. -
I don't know if you noticed it @SirPhilMcKraken but (sort of related) I noticed an additional option relating to braking in the options menu. I can't recall the exact wording, but it was related to brake effectiveness: my assumption was that the effectiveness of engine braking for cars running ALS is now another factor that is being accounted for.SirPhilMcKraken said:
Even so, just felt like it was wasting more time changing gears this way and it didn't help shifting down to aid braking eitherCMMcBabe said:
This is on purpose. The car has lower torque so it needs to short shift to maintain power. Some of the cars in Rally had the same setup.SirPhilMcKraken said:
I actually noticed the Subaru on show on Thursday was shifting at quite low RPM, wasn't redlining at all but that was probably down to the setup plus not release build :)KickUp said:
Our auto boxes now shift at peak torque.Jepsertti said:
Yeah I see :) So maybe there should be a lot less torque than there currently is after 5500rpm, so we would actually need to drive like in that video to be quick? That's what I meant with a more accurate torque curve, because I feel like the Evo X revs way too easily to that 7500rpm point... I might be wrong though, you seem to have a lot more experience with those cars in real life.EDDSkitz said:
I see what you're saying, they are just driving it like that to keep it in the torque band... look at the actual Rev meter in the middle, running about halfish....Jepsertti said:
You build Evo X R4 engines for a living? Hmm, weird. I've seen and heard lots of Evo X R4's in real life and it's quite clear that they're not revving nearly as much as in DiRT Rally. Take a look at this video for example:EDDSkitz said:
I build these engines for a living, red line is 7500 stock, and depending on turbo, als setup, etc... they will make power out past 10,500rpm.Jepsertti said:This thread has turned into Paul's Q&A :D Incredible that he's willing to answer our questions even though it's weekend!
@KickUp since you confirmed that the Evo X R4 is going to be in DiRT 4, have you guys fixed the interior of it so it's LHD with proper Motec display etc.? Also, hopefully it will have proper torque curve and stuff like that so it doesn't rev something like 7500rpm :) In real life they change gears at around 5000-5500rpm.
Hell, my turbo doesn't even spool till 4300.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yEyEiO5lEw
The Evo X R4 should be driven with torque due to the nature of its engine in R4 spec. I know that there are some hill climb and rallycross Evo X's that easily rev over 7500rpm, but that's due to completely different rules. But watching that video you can quite clearly see how "wrong" the Evo X is in DiRT Rally so that's why I hope it would be more accurate in DiRT 4 :)
And I'll be running some races in a bit, but I felt the Evo would drive like this in the game too, I'll check. -
I certainly won't disagree with you there! I would actually argue that the S4/S5 Impreza WRCar is the most iconic rally car of the modern era. It also directly influenced the 22B, which is still regarded by many as the best looking production car to sport the Impreza badge.bogani said:
It would be a very nice nod to the original CMR to have the early Impreza WRC though. And many many people love that car. Such an iconic machine that captured so many people :)tbtstt said:
For me the perfect combination would be an Evo III in the Group A class and then an "early WRC" class with the Evo 6.5 and the S5 Impreza WRCar...bogani said:
I would rather have the Evo IV pitted against the 95 Impreza and the rest of the group A's.tbtstt said:
Yeah. I would personally rather see the Evo VI left in the Group A class in D4. Great that CM have got one of the missing icons of the Group A period in the game though!TheFlyingTuga said:@tbtstt, yup. I do believe that the first outing of the Lancer WRC was in Corsica 01. But until then they've been using the Evo 6,5 from the Middle of the 2000 Championship and that it was visualizy a bit different from the one we're getting
And the GC8 Impreza against the Evo VI ;)
I love that D4 will support multi class rallies. Another thing we wished for during EA :)
...realistically I wouldn't expect CM to commit resources to developing another Evo (and Impreza) just a couple of years away from those already in game. I'm just glad that an early Evo is in there now, fingers crossed that the reception for the game will be so positive the ranks of cars may swell further down the line!
As much as I love the car though, I recognize that there are probably other priorities for the team. One of the most interesting snippets of info we told at CM last year* were the approximate times required to develop new cars. I knew it was an involved process, but I was staggered how many man hours go into each individual car.
* Well I thought it was interesting! -

Mitsubishi used the Group A Evo until midway through the 2001 season @TheFlyingTuga. The Lancer WRC didn't debut until late in the year.TheFlyingTuga said:@JorritVD, actually, the Evo VI its a Gr. Cheers for confirming @Rallycameraman: was sure I'd only seen three when we there in November, but thought I must be forgetting something!Rallycameraman said:

I saw that @RallyDriven and @Rallycameraman have both mentioned four or five cars in that class. I only remembered seeing three in the menu screen (and one of those I'm not 100% on), so I'm not that helpful there...Azoresst said:@tbtstt Do you have any idea how many R5 cars are already licensed? @RallyDriven mentioned 4 or 5 cars on that class but didn't remember how many they were and which were licensed.
...given it's in the trailer I assume that they already have the license for the Fiesta R5. For me that is "the" R5 car, so I'm really glad that's in. I spent quite a bit of time in the Fiesta R5 during the test day last year and it's a blast to drive! -
My rough guess (and don't quote me) is approximately 30 rally cars. I'm sure the figure of 50 cars in total was mentioned yesterday and I count 18 non-rally cars. I may be forgetting/have missed some though, so please don't be mad if the above numbers are wrong!warpengage said:
How tastes can vary. I like pretty all rally cars. However, tastes are not be argued about.Porkhammer said:Well who needs modern shoe cars when we have group A? A far more interesting era.
@tbtstt Thanks for the info. If you don't mind, since it's the full list, how many rally (that is, of the rally discipline) would you say there are, in total (an estimate)?
As I said in my earlier post, the absence of the modern WRCars was the only thing I was disappointed about when we left CM at the end of the day. The addition of R5 is a great consolation though: it's such a key class in so many current national Championships that it retains a contemporary feel to the car list in D4. -
As I understood it, we saw the "full" car list, though about half of those were playable on the day. Again @KickUp, @Hatward or @ChristinaMc may be able to confirm if I have got the wrong end of the stick there. Be brilliant if more cars were to be added on top of those though!warpengage said:@tbtstt About the earlier WRC cars, has the licensing finished for that or there could be more? It's been said that the car list in build you played is only half of it.
I can remember most of the cars from the day, however I haven't posted any car list yet as I think there are still license to be acquired.
Only because you're rubbish in the new cars*. ;)Porkhammer said:Well who needs modern shoe cars when we have group A? A far more interesting era.
(* Group A is my fave era as well though: I gave the Group A Evo a good hammering yesterday!) -

So, stilll no freakin' Audi in the SuperCar roaster? I like the guy, and I like the car... but I will not like them anymore hehehehe
Maybe today I find them here in my town (it's the FIA RX prize giving in Oporto) and have a little rant with them xD
Sorry @TheFlyingTuga, I missed your comment! Sadly not. Like you I think the EKS Audi would be a fantastic addition to the class. @KickUp may correct me but, as I understand it, it's a licensing issue.
Perhaps the official Audi backing for EKS for 2017 might change things? -
Ah, of course! Sorry, I forgot that was showing the "complete" listing!bogani said:

I guess it did since the Lancer Evo VI is a group A car? Please tell me we still have the 555? Maybe even the real works model? -
Ha! I am hoping along with you but, at present, there isn't really a class for it to drop in to! (Unless you had two Impreza WRCars in the early 2000's class).bogani said:
That would mean there's at least hope for older WRC spec machines as DLC?tbtstt said:
That's right. The '01 Impreza and Focus were in the build we saw, as was the '07 Focus.bogani said:
So what exactly are we talking about here and where do we draw the line with modern? Are older spec WRC's like the 01/07 Focus still in the game or are these ruled out as well? Is it just cars from the 2010 and after that are unattainable?KickUp said:
Yep, basically that. It's sad but that's how some rollzoliRX said:'morning @Kick_Up! Could you explain the absence of the modern WRC cars, if possible? Is it the FIA dicking around with the license or is there some exclusivity involved that stopped you from attaing it?
GC8 WRC - there is still hope! ;)
