  1. The hatch grew on me (seeing it rallying certainly helped) and I now prefer it to the sedan of that generation. The newest shape is really growing on me as well. I have seen a few in the metal and I don't think photos do them justice.

Best looking (in my opinion) would be the two door classics, especially the 22B. The widetrack blob STi isn't far behind that though, hence why I've got one! In terms of performance, the latter generation of cars are less harsh to drive. The best production Impreza Subaru have ever produced still has to be the Spec C RA-R.

    ;)
16,000 miles? Blimey, that's low mileage for the year! Exhaust doesn't look OEM (unless the Euro spec cars got a different backbox) and it's obviously sitting lower on the coilovers, but looks pretty standard otherwise. Would like to see under the bonnet!

EDIT: Just looked at the interior shot. The pillar mounted boost gauge isn't standard either.
Yup, the only custom seems to be exhaust and coilovers. I would throw away the gauge in an instant. And to be honest, nothing is certain when it comes to cars for sale. Would have to look at it to make a judgement.

I find it rather surprising the back arches are free of rust. Kinda unique for a GT!
Absolutely, pictures can hide many sins! Yeah, rear arches are always the first place rust seems to strike on the GC Impreza. That looks good in the picture, though it's worth having a good nose underneath.

Check if it's a cat back exhaust or a straight through system: if it's straight through then the car should have been remapped.
Ok. I actually went straight from work to have a look at it. The condition is at first glance very very good. The back arches looked flawless.

It was a 3" system straight through. The owner didn't know if it had been remapped or not. He took the car as a trade for another car not long ago. There was also an open dump valve, which I'm not that fond of as I would want the car as original as possible.
Yeah, back to the standard re-circ would be my first move as well! If it's running a 3" straight through system it definitely should have been remapped, so I'd get that checked as a first priority.

You need to remove the arch liners and boot trim for a really good look around, but clear rear arches sound promising.

I'm biased, but I'd say buy it! I'm sure decent GC Impreza's are going to be future classics.

  5. I don't watch them in sequence, but I often pick out a classic WRC DVD to pop on in the evening (when the missus lets go of the TV remote that is). Very much looking forward to finishing decorating so I can get my collection out of boxes and onto a shelf (or two). That should also provide me a perfect excuse to fill the gaps in my Irish tarmac DVD collection as well!

@ChristinaMc needs to start some Twitter beef with the WRC page. Tell them if they want to see a real car crash they should play something developed by Milestone.
Brutal! If only I could get away with saying that. ;) I've had a little pop though - I didn't even notice it yesterday! It probably says a lot that when I 'monitor competitor activity', I only take a casual weeklyish glance at what they're doing...
Ha! Just saw your response, well played!

  8. I think there might be more content coming, note the use of Dirt Rally with caption: Diverse Content: over 60 cars and tracks from the FIA WRC and RallyCross championships:
Hmmmm. I personally wouldn't count that as positive confirmation of anything. I think you could argue that DiRT Rally already contains "tracks from the FIA WRC and RallyCross championships".  The car number is interesting though, as I don't think DR has that many cars in it?

    Either way, awesome setup!

Full disclosure, it might be more like this for a little while... It's very, very hard trying to write a Road Book when you can't write about the best bits!
"a long while" makes me think it's a new title rather than DLC? The new road book also alludes to a road trip at the end of the month (I think it's hinting at rallycross, but I could be reading it wrong). Research trip for a new title?
I could understand her words wrong cause english isn't my native language but I've felt like it's a little while in a matter that it's not so distance future from today. You've made me sad when I've realized that :(
Sorry, didn't mean to make you sad! I might be reading it wrong, so don't give up hope!

  11. The worst thing ever to come to DiRT franchise was not Gymkhana though... it was those wretched comments after every single Lord Bahamut damn it stage/race/event in DiRT 3. And they went for ages and ages and ages and even more ages about always the same thing. Just to point out, I finished DiRT 3 twice... with 100% completion. Those annoying comments still haunt me at night xD
Yep. That was the voice of Christian Stevenson. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time but,  in my personal opinion, it was the most un-rad decision Codemasters made with DiRT 3.

(As an aside, Stevenson has done the live commentary for the Arenacross events the last couple of years: he is just as cringe inducing live as he is in game)

    @tbtstt  oops! sorry, bud
Haha, no worries @gfRally! I always remember that video, as it's my go to when trying to convince people that Block doesn't believe his own marketing!

I have never spoken to Block directly, but I had a very limited interaction with him at Loheac a couple of years back. I was at the track the day after the rallycross weekend and Block was testing. I had a brief lurk around the Monster tent and tried to get the attention of someone relevant. I was told by one of the mechanics that he probably wouldn't be signing stuff  while in and out of the car, but they asked what I had with me: which is when I showed them my copy of "Easier Said Than Done". The mechanic seemed rather surprised to see that and said he would take it over. Block signed it immediately, was pointed in my direction and actually acknowledged me: guess he was surprised to see someone at a French event with it as well!

There was a brief chat between a few members of the team and a woman came out and handed the DVD back to me. She told me that Matt Johnston was actually filming at the circuit that day. She took my picture as she said Matt would be keen to see a copy of his film had made it to Europe. Never did see any footage of his from the testing though, so I don't know what he was shooting for: I'm also rather glad that picture never of me saw the light of day, as it was probably awful, haha!

It's because he an extremely gifted marketeer and gets attention for what people feel is the "wrong reason". They see him driving in rally as a cultural appropriation of sorts, designed to sell energy drinks at the expense of the sport.

People have formed an opinion on him based on his brand and marketing without ever actually listening to him talk. Because once you do hear him talk you realize he is a very chill, humble, family man that is simply happy he is successful enough to pursue his passion.

This thread proves my point, the narrative is that he thinks he is god's gift to driving, yet when he participated in a handful of WRC rounds, his interviews showed that he was completely realistic about his chances in the series and was simply thankful for the opportunity to drive with some of the best drivers in the world.

Then again, as it was pointed out earlier, I am probably just too dumb to understand.
I would say you've got it spot on!

I already posted that one on the last page @gfRally!  There was another interview where he covered the same subject in more detail, I'll have to have a search later on.

which confuses me when everyone says block ruined 3, when him and Pastrana where heavily prominent in 2.
Ditto! I found the stupid driver comments during the races in DiRT 2 incredibly irritating, far more than any content in DiRT 3 (apart from Christian Stephenson).

The origins of the gymkhana videos are mentioned in the interview that I posted earlier. Given that the first video was almost completely happenstance, it's pretty incredible to see how viewed the series is now. At this point they are perhaps a little repetitive but, much like his career, I admire Block for getting paid to thrash highly modified AWD cars around in public!

I think it was a latter Drive interview (or possibly elsewhere) where Block mentions that he isn't fan of the public exposure, but it's a necessary evil to get the backing that he does. He has also mentioned that, as stage rally doesn't draw as much exposure, he has to do other things in order to get the backing for the limited stage rallies that he participates in.

Block seems like a nice guy and good at what he does (gymkhana), but the fans speak of him as some kind of rally god.
I would say that "mainstream" fans swallow what is put out by Blocks PR team and believe him to be the best driver in the world. More serious rally fans know better. Blocks marketing is a double edge sword: he brings rally content to the mainstream (which is a good thing I would say), but the way it's delivered does seem to alienate him to some rally fans (which of course is a bad thing).

To anyone who isn't keen on Block then I would urge you to watch this:

    https://youtu.be/Vg2c7Pp7H0Q

It's a good interview and may sway your opinion on Block. By his own admission he isn't the best rally driver in the world, but he has managed to get himself into a position where he gets paid to drive with the best drivers in the world. Although you may not agree with the hype surrounding him, he has bought rally (and rallycross) to a bigger audience and for that I applaud him.

As for DiRT 3, I thought it had significantly less dude-bro-ness than DiRT 2. I would agree that gymkhana was overly used into the career mode, but I'm not sure it's fair to blame that on Block.

  16. First look at the 2017 specification Fiesta:

    http://www.m-sport.co.uk/m-sport-news/fiesta-rs-wrc/the-next-stage-2017-fiesta-takes-to-the-gravel

I'm still torn between the Polo and the Fiesta as the best looking car of the current generation, so I'm keen to see what the car will look like with the 2017 panels on it.

Just for conversation I thought I would throw this out, Since Kris Meeke destroyed Finland this weekend, and Is having his best season.  Would it be right for Codies to consider "Kris Meeke: DiRT Rally 2" for thir next Rally Game?  Sure there are other Legends of rally out there, but id think McRae would approve approve of him.
Don't see the point of putting rally drivers' names ahead of game titles, myself.
Didn't you know that a drivers names in front of the game title always guarantees a quality product? Like Sebastien Loeb Rally.

He was McRae's protege, so arguably the most deserving driver to step into his shoes!

  19. Was absolutely glued to the app over the weekend! Fantastic result for Meeke and Breen. Felt bad for Tanak as he seems to have really upped his pace. It's great to finally see someone in a factory seat proving that the Fiesta is a capable car.

Great clip @gheeD! What's it like for spectators? Are you restricted as to where you can stand, or can you go wherever you want?
