He’s not the youngest of chaps now either. I remember Brian from Rallycross back in the late 80’s/ early 90’s. He had an immaculate fwd mk4 Escort back then before switching to a 6R4 and sadly rolled it into a ball on what I seem to remember was his first outing with it at Lydden.

Yep, that's him! Several of the owners at the meet were definitely in their retirement: collecting and driving Group B cars is definitely doing retirement right!

Yea I have read about that rs1700T. It's just perfect in every way IMO :classic_biggrin: But I have to say that I don't really like the rs200. :classic_wacko: Mostly because it's quite ugly.

    😲 BLASPHEMY!

I can understand that, my love for the RS200 is more because of what it did in rallycross rather than how it looks: it's not pretty!

Would love to see that car in action some day. I know it's rare as hen's teeth and didn't never see any real rally action, but that is one badass Ford.

That is reckoned to be the best example of the RS1700T in the world (and the most genuine in terms of specification). It's absolutely spotless outside...

    48296778632_38d780e3bb_h.jpg

...and inside. The owner of the RS1700T (Brian Betteridge) also owns an RS200:

    36029325042_047fc0c042_b.jpg

Which is the cleanest RS200 I have ever looked around:

He didn't bring the RS200 this year though.

The RS1700T is super cool, but I'd still rather have an RS200!

@tbtstt I heard an RS200 completely binned it when going on a run 😮

Yeah, that was Nigel Mummery. Damage was a lot worse than it looked. Rear clam needs a bit of TLC and a couple of suspension bits are bent. Nigel has been rallying that car for a good few years, it will be back on the road soon!

I was gutted though, as I was going to ask for another ride in it before the end of the day!

  5. Barely DiRTy Gossip (Jon Armstrong was at the circuit, so that is kind of a connection), but I was at Curborough last week for the 6R4.net track day. Some awesome Group B cars...

Hmm, Maybe the CotA track not looks that well, but it’s pretty technical and fast which makes it a challenge. Overtaking is pretty difficult and starting on the outside is a big advantage. I think it might be surprise you positive well if it’s the game.

Yeah, Silverstone is definitely more fun to drive then it is to watch, so perhaps CotA might be the same.

Whilst Incan see the point being made to include COTA to "complete" the season.  I 110% disagree about even starting to include it.

It's a horrendous track that was an instant fail the moment they started trying to race on it.

I am seriously torn on CotA: one half of me wants to see them to complete the whole 2018 season, but the other half doesn't care because the track was rubbish!

the 6 fastest cars (the Hansens are running the early 2018 208s, which are slower, and their team is like 1/5th of what it was) and 3 of the fastest drivers aren't here. that'll help.

for me the most impressive has been Gronhölm.

hopefully OMSE sticks around for the rest of the championship. they're great!

[ps, sorry for the double post, I'm on my phone and can't edit an old post by adding a quote to it]

Disagree about the earlier 208's being slower: I thought the earlier 208's looked more competitive than the evolution that followed. Timmy came close to success a couple of times in the first half of the season, but seemed more distant in the second half (at least to me anyway)

That is true with regards to the level of competition, though consider that the Megane is closer to the pace of many of the same cars it was fighting against last year (i.e. the Hansen 208's, EKS S1's and GRX i20's).

I am gutted that Gronholm had to miss two rounds, as I was really hoping that he could take the title this year. I know it is still possible now, but as long as the Hansen duo keep posting consistent results one of them is surely going to win.

    1 hour ago, JorritVD said:

Also still hoping for ARX cars, which maybe could be part of the seasons as well.

Well we already have one, so I hope more will follow... but it's the DS3 I desperately want!

I think you're right about the Megane actually, that car's really interesting. This year it's not being supported by Prodrive as far as I know?

Yeah, as @ianism said, Prodrive aren't involved this year. I have heard a couple of stories as to why, but I think funding is the most likely reason.

    16 hours ago, JorritVD said:

If I heard well, the Megane Baciuska was driving is still in last years Prodrive spec (and therefore maybe also faster 😛). I think the cars are now run by G-Fors? The same who build the Clio's? But i have no idea about this situation.

That would figure, as the Baciuska Megane has the old Prodrive steering wheel on it. Yeah, Fors Performance are running the cars now. To be fair the Meganes have been going pretty well this year. The Clios are bloody awful though, I feel sorry for De Ridder and Raymond: two talented drivers being wasted in two unreliable cars.

I see ES Motorsport are without a driver for Canada as Abbring is driving elsewhere. I wonder who they will get?

I think there might be more reasons for this, (1) balance, (2) better cooling, (3) cooling in the front is complex, (4) more expensive, (5) and to sell cars, because in RallyX Nordic they not allow supercars with cooling in the front.

Cooling in the front is less complex: it's more akin a traditional engine setup and far less plumbing is required. Efficiency is a potential concern, but then there are potential efficiency pitfalls with a rear mounted cooling setup as well. Interestingly VW Motorsport hadn't ruled out switching to a rear mounted radiator setup when they first introduced the Polo, as they were concerned that the engine might struggle in higher ambient temperatures, but that never became an issue.

Moving the radiators to the rear does improve weight distribution and moves that element out of harms way.

I always thought that RallyX Nordic regulation stipulation was an interesting move. Given when it was introduced I wondered if it was done to prevent someone from buying a VW Motorsport Polo and dominating the Championship! (Not that VW Motorsport are very likely to sell a car on though)

    3 hours ago, mats27 said:

(same as the Megane this year).

I am still not entirely sure what Prodrive did there (my theory is that they were using vented radiator air/the rear of the car to act like a blown diffuser), but the regulations were changed very quickly after the Megane made it's debut: now air has to exit via the boot.

Ollie Bennett is already in the game with a Fiesta livery so adding his Mini too would seem a little strange, even though he only raced the Fiesta once in 2017 (I think)

Still holding out hope for the Mini Classic Rallycross to come with Lydden Hill, hell I'd take a whole separate dlc with those 2 bundled if it came down to it

In the World Championship? Yeah, just once if I remember rightly (at Lydden). He has used it a bit in the UK Championship and Chris Hoy drove it in Barcelona earlier this year. Interestingly Oliver Solberg drove the MINI at the tail end of last year, would love to know what sort of lap times he got out of the car...

...I personally think Bennett would have been better off using the proven Fiesta in the World Championship instead of trying to develop a new car in that environment.

And I agree: Lydden and the classic Mini would awesome!

  12. Great weekend of racing and, once again, some different names on the podium which is exactly what was hoped for this season.

Can't but help but think OMSE got their timing wrong returning to World RX: they really struggled last year but, despite some issues (and arguably home soil advantage) they were right in the mix in Holjes. Looks like they have reverted back to a conventional layout for the cars (with the cooling in the rear again)? I wonder how different the 2019 cars are to those used last year.

Without meaning to sound like a social media conspiracy theorist, I did question some of the stewards decisions (or rather lack of decisions) in Sweden.  Timmy Hansen clearly pushed to pass in the semi-final, but nothing was said. Yet far lighter contact has been punished elsewhere? I am not keen on the lack of consistency.

I read that someone does not like KIT CAR, I remember that they are part of the recent modern era, the 90s. on dry asphalt they were very fast, thanks to their low weight compared to the A8 / WRC group they managed to stay very high in the overall classification. Do not forget the two absolute victories of Philippe Bulgaski on Citroen Xsara in the Tour de Racing and Catalunya 1999 rallies. They have subsequently gained weight for this reason. I recommend watching some videos of Jean Ragnotti on how to drive a FWD group A and Kit car to the limit

Anyone who doesn't like kit cars is mad, because they are awesome!

The only American-based rally I've really watched were Subaru's Launch Control videos on YouTube.

They're great videos and the team's obviously strong, but I get the impression Subaru Rally Team USA is the only "works" outfit in that Championship (I tend to enjoy watching factory teams slugging it out on motorsport moreso than privateers).

The Launch Control seasons continually seem to better themselves, can't wait for the new season to start. As you say Subaru are the dominant force as they are the only permanent works outfit.

Incidentally, "Easier Said Than Done" is a great watch and provides another look at rally in the US.

I'm not too interested in the Mini. it doesn't help that Bennett has has been super unimpressive in it. more cars are always welcome though.

I can see them doing another two or three RX tracks, and 2 cars to release along with each, like how we're getting the Group B RX cars with Estering and Latvia. cars that currently run in the WRX are the most likely... then ARX cars after

so this is just my list of WRX cars I think are the most likely:

    • Mini of course, I think it's almost certain to make an appearance eventually
    • Renault Clio GCK (which you forgot 😉)
    • Hyundai i20 (hopefully hopefully)
    • SEAT Ibiza maybe
    • Skoda Fabia maybe
    • Citroen DS3 hasn't been run regularly since 2016, so I don't see it happening unless they do like a throwback RX month and include it with the Hoonigan Focus or something. really unlikely.

then after that who knows? there's already a couple of Fiesta RXs and a Polo R in the game, so I think those are unlikely, but ones I think we could get:

    • Beetle would be amazing.
    • Focus is less likely but you never know.

I agree with regards to the MINI Cooper: it has been an underwhelming car thus far and I am not that bothered about seeing it...

...perhaps controversially I also think the same about the MINI Countryman. It has had little international success and there are a lot of other rallycross Supercars I'd rather see.

The i20 is the car I'd really like to see as that would complete the 2018 line up. I really like the Seat Ibiza as well, so hopefully that makes the jump from DiRT 4.

I hoped that the Oliver Solberg connection might give us the Citroen DS3 (with a Petter livery or two as well). My favourite car to see in action of the last few years, plus I loved driving it in DR1 and D4 as it goes sideways alot.

@ianism mini cooper is announced by bennett + subaru impreza wrc 2001 in trailer wait, end of july for season 3

As much as I'd like to see it in game, I'm not convinced by the accuracy of that statement by Bennett.

I'd really like to see the GRX i20 and DS3 added to the Supercars.

The Escort MKII model used until D4 was constantly inherited between games. I think it originally dates from CMR: DiRT 2, which is now a ten year old game and the first DiRT game I played.

I think it might be a little older than that. The model is based on the DJM built Mk.2 that belonged to Colin and was first featured in the original DiRT.

Its doesn’t bother me that rothmans isn’t on the Porsche, the colours are enough 😁😁

My thoughts exactly! So pleased to see the Porsche in those colours, I thought the multi-colour livery (from the early shots) was going to be the "real" livery for that car.

The Wurth livery isn't that great, but at least it is a genuine scheme for the 037.

And I fully agree with the comments concerning the Focus. Would be amazing if they could do something similar with the Martini livery!

Gave them a quick run this morning and I have to say, I had to double check if my throttle pedal gave 100%, the 037 almost felt tame on gravel compared to before.

I would rather just have a plain white car with the number in the rear window. I am still glad the plain liveries have been added though, they are my first choice for a number of cars now.

Honestly, if they just removed the giant "+" sign on them, they'd immediately start looking better. Not fixed, but better. the D2 is corny, but some of the liveries aren't terrible until you see the giant promo branding.

Yeah, 100% agree with this: I think several of the liveries would be vastly improved by this little tweak.

Just tried the latest arrivals out. The 037 seems way more predictable than before: and an absolute missile on tarmac!
