I like the Polo, think it's the best looking of the '18 cars.

I rarely play with the '18 cars any more though, I always go for the '19s.

Yeah, it is my favourite looking '18 car, I think the PSRXVW livery works so well on that car.

As @JorritVD has already alluded to, it is a shame that the car isn't as quick as it should be in DR2.0 (and that the engine configuration was never fixed!).

  2. I spied a post from CM (think it was on Facebook?) about the success of the team working remotely. With that in mind, I wonder when we can expect the final update for DR2.0 and if there is any significant content coming in the "surprises" that were mentioned?

There's likely some AI variance so if you did a new run from scratch you may be presented with easier times.

I just kept restarting. The goal is a fixed time (3:25 I think). Took me a few trips to the trees to figure out which bits I could take flat and which bits I had to back off for!

The Metro runs were tricky, but fortunately the last one is on the same Stage as this so teachings carry over.

I am yet to try the last 6R4 stage on Very Hard, so those areas where you are carrying more speed are likely to assist me there.

Was struggling with the Finland (damaged) WRC98 challenge last night. I had multiple attempts where I was consistently half a second too slow, then did a messy run and somehow managed to beat the challenge by almost 5 seconds. Bizarre, but I wasn't complaining!

  5. I actually found that trophy much easier than some of the McRae challenges on Very Hard!

Good video though, few sections where you are carrying more speed than me: will have to go back and try some more runs!

WRC isn't in its best state right now but there will be a rule change in 2022 with the hybrids coming in and potentially more manufacturers interested in the series (one can hope).

Yeah, it isn't the greatest for manufacturer support at the moment but, that said, I absolutely love the current specification cars! Just imagine taking a current specification car on some of the DR2.0 stages...

This is so cool and unexpected! Can’t believe we have to wait three years for it though! Hope the wrc is in good shape at that point for the game!

Even if the WRC isn't in a great state, a Codemasters rally game with an expanded roster of historic 2.0L and 1.6L World Rally Cars is sure to be fantastic.

I wonder if the new title(s) will fall under the "DiRT Rally" banner, or be released as "WRC"? I guess the former if rally and rallycross are still to fall under the same title.

Did you know that if you lose your car’s bonnet the engine will sound different?

No. I have never crashed and lost a bonnet, so I couldn't possibly have found that out for myself... :classic_wink:

...the E2 quattro sounds incredible, no matter how many times I go back to it, it never ceases to please me. The Group A Subarus both sound superb as well, absolutely nailed the flat four growl.

The graphical effect that probably catches my eye the most is the dust: I frequently use the rear view in rallycross and am frequently impressed by the swirling dust clouds.

  9. Well the ending of Gymkhana 10 suggested that the future of the series was with Pastrana, didn't it?

Sure Block will dream up more ways to promote the Ford brand outside of the gymkhana series. As much as I want to see Pastrana thrashing a Scoob, I do wonder what else can be done now?

    You'll love Greece 1998 😉

Driving the Subaru I'll be quite happy. I swear I am never driving the Sierra Cossie after cracking New Zealand though, I had to switch the PS4 off earlier because I wanted to punch something.

  11. Trying to do some of these challenges in Very Hard is controller smashingly frustrating.

I have repeatedly tried the two stage New Zealand challenge in the Sierra and am having to push so hard that I always slip up once and lose a second or two. It is making me mad!

Fairly certain it's not Codemasters for this one 😉

Also, new DiRT Rally 2.0 video dropping on YouTube later this evening.

It's not an announcement, but you may enjoy it 🙂

Because it has got Hyundais in it? 😁

Besides I do hope they change the layout and put the jokerlap somewhere else. If not it will never get back the status of a beloved track.

I can't see that happening if I am honest. The left side of Hairy Hill is the only place that has space on the track and I can't see them building there.

Would much rather they spent money on making the loose sections better.

And you have games that pretend to have both worlds. Mostly they fail to serve one of the fanbases. A good example is dirt 4.

Yeah, DiRT 4 certainly had the intention of pleasing both audiences but, for various reasons, seemed to miss both. Jack of all trades, master of none...

Like any game developer Codemasters have decisionmakers who sometimes fail to see what the market wants.

...certainly in recent years I think the DiRT franchise has correctly read the market, but the products haven't always hit the right note (specifically thinking of DiRT 4).

Thing is, I thought - and still do think - that the idea behind DiRT 4 was solid: build a game on realistic foundations (for the DiRT Rally crowd) and put an arcade facade on it (for the DiRT 2/DiRT 3 players). I wonder if D4 would have been better received by the serious racing fanbase without My Stage? (which, again, I thought was a superb idea on paper as it seemed to directly address one of the most common critiques of DiRT Rally)

I personally see DiRT 5 as acceptance from CM that you can't please everyone shoehorning everything into one title. DiRT 5 is free to be the mainstream arcade off road racer (which, based on the comments on social media, there definitely seems to be a market for), while DR 3 can be the focused simulator that most of us on the forum seem to want.
