Just thought of another minor question to bother @KickUp with: have the car models for the returning rallycross Supercars been tweaked at all, or are they identical in appearance (apart from liveries) to DiRT Rally?

Some have some havent. We haven't been able to do a lot of the changes that you guys will have wanted :(

The curse of licensing again @KickUp? Well ultimately it is only going to be a handful of us who are going to be looking at certain details and, new or original model, I still can't wait to grips with the expanded rallycross content!

An exceptionally trivial question for @KickUp, but have the trophy/achievements been decided upon yet? Any subtle (or not so subtle) references for forum members to look out for?

Yes and yes. May or may not be covering it in a Road Book, who knows.

    :D

If there's not a PhilMcKraken related trophy then its a no from me.

    I am hoping to see:

"But S1 E2 isn't right!" - unlocked the first time you drive the E2 quattro.
"Blessed are the Meeke" - unlocked by clipping a parked car near the finish line of a stage.

A detailed reply which confirms nothing: @ChristinaMc has definitely mastered Codemasters forum policy.

Regarding steering... I would say, f*** game pads. Want precise steering? Use steering wheel.
If you asking for translation of 90* degree rotation (about 8cm) into a few mm done with small stick... you asking for some aid/assistence.

Codemasters haven't had any trouble getting the gamepad to feel right. The gamepad feel in DR is really excellent and can be adjusted significantly to allow for precision, so it's definitely possible. Don't discount a large portion of the audience because they don't have a wheel, especially for a game that is being marketed to consoles as well as PC.

Typical steering wheel snob comment. I'd love a wheel, just haven't got the budget for one!

I agree with the comments concerning steering feel on the pad. DiRT Rally is a challenge no matter what controller you use, but you can be precise - and the game can be mastered - with a pad. I can't wait to see what final tweaks CM have made for DiRT 4.

@Rallycameraman The sourced a correct spec '01 to sample?!   cool.  I know there are others that have new samplings as well, i'm really looking forward to D4's new engine sounds.
I'm particularly happy that they've taken the same standing as they did with the 306 Maxi (can't fake 11,000RPM) for similarly 'unique' engines, such as crosskarts and 3 cylinder engines.

Yeah I put them in touch with a guy who owns one. I think it's the only 2001 Impreza WRC in the UK.

That's fantastic, thankyou, also wow, rarer than I'd guess.
I'm assuming it's the even length headers?

Yeah, that's right @F2CMaDMaXX, all the Impreza WRCars ran equal length headers, it was only the Group A car that had unequal headers (which is why the Group A sounds the best ;) ). And great work @Rallycameraman, looking forward to hearing the correct audio for that car now!

So I went to Lydden Hill today for the first time to watch the British Rallycross Championship and it was FANTASTIC. Absolutely non-stop racing with the tiniest of gaps between each one. When I went to Croft last year it was very slow moving and long-ass gaps between them but this was so much better. Watching this all today has gotten me so hyped to play the upgraded RX physics as well as the buggies in D4!

I almost bumped into this guy and apologised and only when I walked away did I notice who it was...got a cheeky snap:

    Videos to come!

Good thing you apologized. You had no idea who you were messing with.

    Hint to reference: Gatebil 2016

    ;)

Its ok, I know the reference and I also thought that afterwards ;) Like I was saying to @tbtstt when I saw him earlier, as much as he's been in hot water for his attitude abd bullishness, he's a fantastic driver and it was good to see him there and just to see him in general as I never have and he seemed to be enjoying himself today

Yeah, I think he is an excellent driver, it's just a pity he has a habit of making an ass of himself off (and occasionally on) the track.

Glad you enjoyed Lydden. I actually yesterday was rather slow in terms of pacing, but there was some great racing in the finals. The Super Nationals were particularly excellent throughout the day, really mixed entry list and a lot of mid-pack battles. Ovenden was so unlucky not to win the final!

Awesome work @SirPhilMcKraken, I shall be watching that later!

Not really DiRTy Gossip, but few pictures from Round 1 of the World Rallycross Championship in Barcelona...

If anyone is interested! (Sorry, there are no DiRT 4 shots in there!)

I feel like I could put on some glasses, throw the switch on the time machine to the late 90's and see that in 3d.

I'm not a fan of the new Hoonigan livery: I nearly went permanently cross-eyed after squinting at photos to see if they were in focus or not!

Am I alone here not finding turbos and ALS as intriguing as tuned NA cars?

Is there anything more boring than watching a whole field of Group N Mitsubishis going past you in the stages? Low mumbling engine note and a few pops here and there.

    Shots fired!  :#

Police were again been called to the DiRTy Gossip thread today. They arrested @bogani for breach of the peace and charged him with talking nonsense.

Whilst locked up, Police made him watch this on repeat:

This video shows some rallycross gameplay after the trailer:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXeEFOuiCYo

Looks fun, but will probably be pretty limited as far as content goes. Kinda weird having GRC and World RX cars together as well.

Yeah, I thought that as well. Given that DiRT has the World Championship roster I'm surprised that Project Cars didn't opt for the full GRC line up instead.

It's nice to rallycross appearing in more games - and it looks like there is a good mix of tracks in that trailer -  but I'm far more enthused for the official content in DiRT 4 than I am the mixed line up in Project Cars.

I see two Ford Focus RS Rally in the list, do we really need two ?  One could make way for the RS1800, the most iconic rally car of all time that rightly deserves its place in D4.

"most iconic" is highly subjective. (And probably dependent on age)  I don't find the Escort 'most iconic' at all... it's a often used car from that era but overall not more important than the Stratos or Quattro or Mini or RS200.  To me, the most iconic rally car would be the '99 Impreza, but it's subjective.
"It's just like... your opinion, man."

I have a feeling that you've just started the debate of the year. :joy:

Police were called to the DiRTy Gossip thread this afternoon to prevent a massive riot. When asked about the cause of the riot, fingers were pointed at @Busterbvi for raising potentially the most subjective question in rallying ever.

    I find this extremely interesting.

This is interesting, though not that surprising. What was considered the peak of rallying years ago is often seen as "slow" by modern standards.

I would say suspension, brakes, tires are the main factors that makes the biggest difference.

Absolutely. Coupled with improvements in transmission, it's the reason that the Group B stage times were matched (and then beaten) so quickly: all that power is wasted if you aren't putting it to the ground effectively...

  11. Off topic,

but im back from an incredibly bumpy Somerset Stages, which showed just how far a good set of suspension would get you! Unfortunately ours wasn't up to it and the car is pretty bent. Hopefully I'll get some footage uploaded tomorrow as my laptop is absolutely useless at the moment.

https://twitter.com/mike_evett/status/851179508975751168 Caught a spectator of lying on the outside of a bend filming with an iPad, so I made sure that the marshals got him moved out the way!

This sort of thing makes me so mad. I love to get pictures of the cars in action, but dumb behavior like this is the sort of thing that is going to get the public locked out of rally events.

    no volvo 242  :'( :'( :'( :'(
and why no audi quattro in group b rallycross?

Sadly because Audi did not officially support the Group B Rallycross as a factory team we couldn't licence it. Same reason we couldn't get the EKS RX car.

As for the 242 - one day it will happen ;)

But since Audi now officially supports the EKS cars, could we maybe see them one day as DLC?

From now on the possibilty is there

That's brilliant to read: fingers crossed for the S1 in future!
