DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

A few hundred pages ago, someone mentioned that VW Polo '17 is not under WRC license, and @KickUp acknowledged that... anything more on that? OH MY GOD I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT BEAST IN DIRT 4!!!! Pretty please with a cherry on top :)

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Are they targeting 30fps? Haven't heard anything about it. On the PS4 Pro WRC 6 runs very well. So does Loeb EVO. Practically no noticeable difference after switching from DiRT or Project CARS. I know WRC 6 did not hit 60fps on normal PS4 (which I own), so I am presuming WRC7 would still be doing variable framerate at best. I also have Loeb Rally Evo, and the 30 fps is definitely noticeable to me after coming from playing Dirt Rally and now Dirt 4. Incredibly, Dirt 4 has increased its lighting and weather effects dramatically and is still maintaining a rock solid 60fps on PS4 (in rally at least, LandRush and Rallycross has some drops). Other rally games have to be able to match that to get my money from now on. By the way, cool user name. I've been thinking of picking up a book by him. Would you tell me what is his most important work? As @Scyy stated, yes, Human Action is his magnum opus. It's very long though. He even had to write it twice after losing his copy when fleeing the Nazis. Regarding SLRE on vanilla PS4, yes, I remember that, the 30fps is excruciating. However, I disagree a bit with your take on D4's graphics. While it's true that the lighting effects are greatly improved, I feel that overall it's a step backwards in the graphics department. The 30fps pixelated replays are eyesores, even worse than SLRE's. I have seen some people complaining that the game does not look very good on the Pro for some reason, so maybe it has something to do with erroneous optimization for the Pro. Thank you and @Scyy for the book recommendation. I like the replay camera better on D4 so far, can't see any pixelation. The dust clouds look horrible in SLRE and there is not much variety in the camera angles there either. But I am on normal PS4, so the pixelation thing might be a PS4 pro issue.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDZDUZ3bvIc Looks pretty good, but the co-driver, oh my god no please. And as nice as the stage is, I can't go back to memorising stages in other rally games now, thanks to YourStage. It needs more variety in corner types/tiles, but YourStage is definitely the way forward for me. And 30 fps on console, just no. I just so want those WRC cars dammit!

I think they have implemented tyre temperatures, because I noticed in last (or the one before that) week's weekly in Spain that my Metro was a bit skittish, but the further I got along the stage, the more grip I had, and could attack harder! I asked Paul if this was the case, but didn't get an answer. That's pretty cool if that is the case.

Anyone facing a weird issue with Loheac RX circuit? The first two turns at the start, I start to slide way too much and even go into half spins every time. But when I attack those corners pretty much the same and sometimes even more aggressively in the following laps, the cars handles fine. Happened with the DS3 and Focus so far. Haven't tried others yet.

Parts do fail if they are low grade like D or E, specially on back to back 10km+ stages. This can happen with clean driving as well.

:'(  And I can't access Fearless/Brutal AI because of chase cam. Cockpit bullies

Are you using the close chase cam or the one further back? The close chase cam. Okay, thats what I use too but I dont remember having this issue in Australia. I will see if I notice this next time I play. The dust is not thrown in your face all the time (depending on car and camera angle I believe), but it does often enough to distract and damage the stage time. This never happened happened in Dirt Rally in the more dusty locations like Greece. Anyway here is an example I found. Starts at 8:45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWgQungJcD0 Yes that certainly looks like more dust then when I remember playing it last, maybe I have a different graphical setting for the partical effects or something? I'll have to take another look. Are you on PC like me? I'm on PS4, and the video I posted was someone who plays on xbox one I believe. I do remember this problem happening with the Focus '07 when I drove it last. It does not occur persistently, but often enough to obstruct vision once in a while. I went back to Dirt Rally in Greece. That too is very dusty, but it does not go right into the camera and does not obstruct vision in any way.

Using chase cam, Australia in dry weather is kicking up way too much dust right into the camera and obscuring vision. Other rallies are fine. Please look into it.

Some WRC 7 gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Uj1IYfM9cY&t=123s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWQQdyzwZ9Y The stages look good, but after playing with YourStage, I just can't go back to memorising tracks now. I'm spoiled :) God I wish those modern WRC cars were in Dirt 4. Here is hoping that Dirt 4 is a massive success so that FIA WRC will finally recognise give the license to Codemasters!

Feedback about chase cam: Since there are really big hills and undulation changes in a lot of stages in Wales and Sweden, when the car reaches the crest of the hill the camera does not shift down towards the road going down for about 10-15 metres (it is positioned to see straight ahead, while the actual car blocks the view of the road), effectively keeping the player blind for that short while. Can this be fixed?

You get to have a fully filled icon stamped on each of your Championship cards.  I'll also give you a virtual Hat tip!  ;) Nooooo, I was wondering why my icons are not filled and how I can fill them. RIP chase cam users. I'm gonna keep bugging you about this. haha.

I'll need to confirm with my team but it is possible that you can only access Fearless with Gamer because that is how you unlocked it.  No, I did not touch gamer at all throughout my entire playthrough. Full simulation for me (with chase cam). I unlocked it in Simulation. Sorry if I didn't mention that. I was only getting frustrated that I could not go to Brutal AI with chase cam in the menus. As I was fiddling with customising difficulty in the menus, I just checked if Fearless is available in Gamer too, and yup it is... but not with chase cam  :'(

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Just unlocked Fearless and Brutal AI. All this while I have been running with all assists off and 0 restarts as well. My camera preference is chase cam, since I play with a controller (cockpit feels wrong without a wheel), so I can't really access Brutal AI for this. Please allow brutal AI to be customisable. Pretty please with a cherry on top :) Also, with chase cam I can only max out my reward bonus to 93%, and some sponsors ask for 94% bonus target, which unnecessarily punishes a chase cam player like me. This can be fixed, I presume, if you allow Brutal difficulty with chase cam since that should be able to push my reward bonus above 94%. Also, I find it a bit weird that I can access fearless and brutal with gamer handling, but I can't access it on simulation only because I use chase cam. Odd design choice in my opinion.

I second this. I am really enjoying the owning and managing a private team and garage bit, but I really would love it if it was a physical location to walk around in and just stare at my pretty cars, with an expanding garage and facilities. Building your garage is such a key part of the game progression in both DR and D4, I think it is only a natural progression to flesh it out a little more. This would be a big task to add in D4 I presume, but I would be really like to see it in future Dirt games.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I haven't unlocked Fearless yet, but I think I am getting close. Paul Coleman mentioned that Fearless will be locked to interior camera, which I don't play with. I am already playing with all assists off, including no restarts. Only exterior camera is on, which is comfortable for my gamepad play style. Chasing Fearless difficulty and finding out that I cannot pick the hardest AI with chase cam is going to be a let down. Please take note of that, if it is the case devs, since Paul already mentioned that is the case. Related to this, some sponsors ask for a 94% bonus from no assists in the settings, but with chase cam the highest I can go is 93% which automatically deteriorates my sponsor relationship. Come on devs, not even Dirt Rally was so hostile to chase cam players. I am enjoying the game, but these are some confusing design choices.

Ok, YourStage is so so so so SO GOOOOOOOD. What the hell man, this is insane. And its great to have to pay attention to the co-driver again and anticipating corners. I genuinely wish this game massive success, and makes a truckload of money... then I hope WRC can finally recognise CM's genius and come begging to take their license for a future game. I still want those WRC cars :)

Re-watching slaptrain's video, and both RWD and 4WD seem to be handling as they should. But again, this is at Dirtfish, not rally stages. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rejX0NX1VAc&t=265s

I like the handling in DR, but the sacrifice in car weight was too great in attempt to lessen the grip and to make the cars go more sideways. This made Finland my least favourite location, until I memorised it. That should not have been the case. I think I would have really enjoyed Finland had the cars actually behaved with proper gravity and weight.

But I'll take the silence so far from the devs on this issue, that they are working hard on a fix :)

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

It's not the physics itself, it's the grip level on the gravel stages. That's the only thing it can be really. In the Dirt Fish area it's mostly gravel covered pavement and a different kind of gravel to what's on the stages. Yeah sorry, that's what I meant. The gravel surfaces of the stages and dirtfish being different. Definitely seems like the surface in dirtfish is proper, from the footage I've seen. The rally stage surfaces, some look good but others don't. There seems to be some inconsistency somewhere.
