  1. I was too tired to stay up for the Formula E so I watched the highlights this morning :p Good race though, such a shame for Bird with his mistake, and also a very silly move from Buemi, but that's certainly spiced up the championship now.

Also caught the first two BTCC races, both superb as usual, and now time for Formula 1! Great weekend.

  2. I've never liked Johnny Herbert's punditry, I'm sure I've mentioned it countless times here before, so I'm so happy Fernando did that.

What makes it even better is Fernando made sure that they were live on TV so that everyone would see it, which makes is 10x funnier.

What is it about me loving all these ex-world champions Alonso and Vettel recently? You can't help but like them now!

  3. In other news, I was at Silverstone on Tuesday as myself and a couple of mates decided to go to the British Superbikes test and media day!

Totally worth the trip, it was free for the day and the access to everything was quite incredible. I mean, my mate somehow ended up waving a red flag which is quite something.

Let me talk you through the day. I was able to drive straight into the circuit, so they clearly weren't expecting many people, and parked in the old paddock car park. We went for a walk in the old paddock and the teams were literally like 'hey guys come on into the garage!'

Amazing, we were just in the back of the garage and chatted to a couple of riders just before they went out to test! We then saw some other members of the public just standing on the pit wall so we thought 'f*** it let's head over', so we literally crossed the pit lane in the middle of a test session and were watching the bikes from the pit wall!

Then a red flag came out and my mate asked the marshall if he could wave it, and he did! We then just went for a walk around the circuit, and the security really wasn't amazing, we could have easily just walked onto the circuit at many points.

At the loop section, a gate was just open which led to the circuit and we saw a couple of guys with their cameras just snapping away, so we decided to wander through ourselves and started taking photos! It was crazy, we were ahead of the fences, but just behind the tyre barriers!

We wandered around the new paddock too which was completely deserted, and then made out way back to the national pit straight for the pit walkabout, so chatted to a couple of riders, got photos and yeah, just amazing!

I spent £10 in the entire day, and that was just for my lunch at a nice local pub, not a penny at the circuit. 10/10 would go again.

  4. 'We are delighted to announce that the McLaren Honda Formula 1 World Championship Racing Team's reserve driver, Stoffel Vandoorne, will be driving in the place of Grand Prix world champion Fernando Alonso at the 2016 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix'.

  5. I'm happy I've sort of had both of those experiences aha, when I was little, before all kids had mobile phones, I used to walk round to my mates' houses to see if they wanted to come out to play on bikes, but now, yeah it's all Facebook messenger :/

  6. I watched a fantastic interview with him earlier this week funnily enough, his one with Mario Muth on YouTube from a couple of years back, so while he didn't talk about these issues, he spoke very well and he clearly knows what he's talking about. He's that sort of 'say it how it is', no b*llocks kind of guy.

He speaks so much sense though there, Formula 1 is an absolute mess right now. For every one thing that's good about it, there's 5 things which can be massively improved.

  7. Can't wait for the season to start! I'm most pleased to see the Halfords / Honda partnership return to be quite honest! I remember going to Brands Hatch and Silverstone in 2004 and 2006 and watching them blast around the track, amazing.

  8. Well I say that now, I've just realised I've got a concert I've got to do on that day  :s That's so annoying! Also I'm busy on the Sunday so I'll just have to go on the Friday. Bit of a shame as there aren't any races on but at least all three championships are in action a couple of times each.

  9. I'm going to there again this year, had a fantastic time last year! I'm gonna go on the Saturday again though, so it'll be £20.

I'm not going on the Sunday as the only action is the WEC race and a Porsche Carrera Cup race in the morning.

On the Saturday there's a lot more going on, as there's WEC practice and qualifying, Porsche Carrera Cup qualifying and race, and ELMS qualifying and race. On top of that there's a free pit walk for ELMS and also for WEC in the afternoon, while the ELMS race is happening.

When I went last year I got a bit bored after the first hour and half of the ELMS race so I went home, so I doubt I'd enjoy sitting through a 6 hour WEC race lol. Saturday just seems more appealing to me.

  10. Without a doubt mate, considering the races are 3x longer, the racing is so much more entertaining. The only problem is it will never become popular with the casual viewer as they just don't want to watch 6 hours of racing. To be honest, neither do I. I usually just watch hour long highlights, I never watch the full 6 hours.

  11. The other thing is, almost any kid can get themselves involved in football. All they need is a ball of any kind, and they can play and have fun for free, and joining local clubs aren't that expensive either. If they like it then they'll want to watch it on TV and they can, at least with highlights of the Premier League on BBC, but also World Cup and Champions League, which is top quality football, live on FTA TV.

Go karting on the other hand, well we all know that is expensive, and without F1 being on FTA TV, there won't be as many kids who will say 'ah I want to try that', and it will probably mean fewer bright stars of the future, because they just aren't interested.

I hate F1 sometimes, it's its own worst enemy most of the time, it only has itself to blame. It's all about money money money for FOM.

Also notice how Sky Sports F1's Twitter and website have made absolutely no reference to that GPDA letter written earlier today. Partially because that letter is probably aimed at people like them.

  12. Very good post Chris, couldn't have put it better myself.

Just when you think F1 couldn't get any more ridiculous and this happens. It's almost as if they're sitting down and coming up with ways to drive fans away. We've had so many crazy ideas that the fans simply haven't asked for in the past couple of years, for example.

Double points, standing grid restarts after a safety car, elimination qualifying, pay TV, to name a few.

It is getting on my nerves as this is my favourite sport and it has been my biggest passion since I can remember, yet it seems to just be kicking itself in the teeth all the time.

F1 needs to go back to basics in a way, it needs clear leadership, and it simply has to stay on FTA TV for it to survive. It needs the next generation of fans.

  13. If they do make a chicane then I'd hope they make one that doesn't interfere with the current corner so they can still use it for Formula 1. Perhaps something like this.

Something like this would hopefully work, so there's still plenty of run off for the bikes at the chicane (they'd use the current track), and then the chicane would just go into the current gravel trap.

That is bloody stupid, what's even more stupid is he isn't getting into trouble over it as "there's not enough evidence" lol, how much more evidence do they need than a video showing him doing it? If that was a normal person they would get done for it....
Yep, absolutely crazy isn't. A video of him doing it isn't enough evidence? Ridiculous.

I like Hamilton as a driver, and it's cool him showing us his extravagant lifestyle, but things like this make him look like a right nob.

I hope the media roast him about it tomorrow at the media day for the Grand Prix.

  15. In other news, I've just noticed something about this photo.

It's very cool, quite striking, but I'm pretty sure this shows Alonso driving the wrong way around Turn 2 at Barcelona. I've had a look a few times now and I'm sure it's this turn, judging by the run off on the inside (with the speed humps) and the grandstand in the background.
