It depends on how this season goes. If the car is crap and shows no improvement on last year then I can honestly see both of them leaving. I'd say in terms of being kicked out, Button is probably more likely than Alonso, slightly, but it depends on how they both perform again this season.Mexicola said:McLaren expect Vandoorne "to be ready" by 2017
So the silly season begins before the actual season gets underway. If, and it's a pretty big "if", they decide to replace someone, who do you think it'll be? My money's on Alonso.
I just can't believe Vandoorne isn't in Formula 1 this season. He's the biggest new talent in a very long time, and it's crazy that people like Haryanto, Wehrlein, Ericsson, Guiterrez and Nasr are in and he isn't.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he came in next year and beat either Alonso or Button, I'm sure he's that good. -
I love it, I'm paying for premium at the moment too as I get it half price while at uni. I can't see myself ever not using it now, it's got (nearly) everything I need on there.
Funnily enough though, the first time I downloaded it I didn't like it and gave up after a couple of days. I only started again when a couple of my friends said they loved it, and now I'm on it for a good few hours a day. -
Right then, time for our pre-season predictions, just like last year. Questions taken from F1 Fanatic. You can copy and paste the bit below for your post, and just add your answers in underneath.

I hate to lay down the law, but please guys, final warning. If you must continue to discuss this then please keep it to PMs, not the forum. -
It is weird isn't it. Something I also vividly remember (but haven't been able to find online), are the Toyota adverts that sponsored ITV's F1 coverage back around in 2002. It was very odd, it was like this whooshing sound and a heart beat, and a technical look at the engine which was spitting fire.Mexicola said:Us human people only remember the useless rubbish from our younger years. Registration of the first family car? Got it. First holy communion? No chance.
*inb4 catholic priest jokes hahahahayourehilarious*
I'd love to find it somehow, need to keep searching!
EDIT: Someone uploaded it a couple of months ago!

@onetwothree
That's the joke.
BANTER! PHWOAAR, GOOD ONE!
-
First one I remember is Australia 2000, and more specifically, I remember the Rightmove adverts in the breaks for whatever reason. -
Well lets all calm down shall we.
I haven't watched the full race but caught some 4 minute long highlights, and I'd say the race was alright, not great, just alright.
However, still far better than most Formula 1 races these days, wahey! -
Racing on a proper circuit makes you realise how slow these cars actually are. Their acceleration is no where compared to Formula 1.
It's a shame they've had to butcher the circuit with about 3 chicanes but I understand they have to for the breaking re-gen. It's cool how the cars go into the stadium and do a loop though, and of course the Peraltada. -
Yes! I saw this yesterday evening when Paul tweeted it aha, this is how you market a game to a UK audience! -
Well I love potatoes, that looks fantastic. Sony keeping the workers fed with lovely potatoes while the PS4's are made just out of shot. -
Yeah exactly, and sometimes you need a mouse to navigate efficiently. I did actually buy myself a bluetooth keyboard for my iPad a couple of years ago, so typing was much better than on the screen.Matthew77258 said:
I'm pretty much in the same situation. I take my ipad to uni, and it's awesome to use to keep up with the powerpoint slides while I take notes down in a book, but you can't write a 2,500 word essay on an iPad (well, you can, but i'd be frustrating as hell).MBKF1 said:Yeah the primary reason I got it is for uni. I don't currently have a laptop, and while I have an iPad, it just won't cut it, I need a proper laptop.
As I'm going graphic design too, I've gone for the 15 inch one so I can have the bigger screen and better specs to run the Adobe CC software. Also there's something about a MacBook which just looks the part aha :p
I remember your PC master race thing too, and my glorious edit to PS4 master race!RevolvingPrawn said:
Oh I never stop, I spread my Apple hate in many different places, it just hasn't been needed here for a little while ;)MBKF1 said:Waheeeey, I've missed you're Apple bashing, it's been a while!

Ah right I see, so even though they don't have to run them in the race, they're not allowed to run them in Practice or anything, just the race.
-

So I've gone and treated myself to a MacBook Pro, and I absolutely love it! It'll take a while to get used to stuff like the Finder, after years on Windows, but loving it so far. The Retina display is gorgeous. -
As far as I was aware, I thought that you only had to use one of the designated sets of tyres chosen by Pirelli in the race?
So for Australia for example, Pirelli have chosen a set of mediums and a set of softs. Lewis Hamilton could run the softs in the race, and he won't have to run the mediums as long as he does this, so he is allowed to run them in practice.
I'm pretty sure this is how it works, that's what I gathered from that Will Buxton video anyway. -
You're damn right she is, just saw it on the COTA Periscope feed!
I've not been this excited in a long time. -
Yeah he was fantastic on commentary, and that's why I said I think there's someone better for a pit lane reporter role. With his vast knowledge on the sport, and the history, I think he'd suit a punditry role more than a pit lane reporter, who has to just comment on what is happening at that time.RevolvingPrawn said:No idea who Steve Jones is either, but I'm very happy with that line up otherwise! Trust me Matt, Chandok is more than up to the task of pit lane reporter, did you ever hear him commentate on Friday practice sessions? (Can't remember if it was BBC or Sky) He's very good, knows absolutely tons about the history of the sport too :)
It's funny on the pundits, it's like C4 has gone for drivers who have retired from the sport within the last decade, where Sky have the old blokes from 'back in the day' ;)
But yeah, the line up looks sweeeet! A nice combination of familiar BBC faces and some new ones, really nice. Murray Walker and Alain Prost were definitely unexpected, but I'm not complaining, and Mark Webber will be fantastic I'm sure whenever he's on punditry roles. He's always got an opinion.
I hope that C4 kick Sky's backside this year. Considering Sky have their own dedicated F1 channel, what they have done is feeble, especially when you look at what amazing things they could be doing with all that air time. Sky have some gems like Brundle and Kravitz but a lot of them are rubbish and would be far better off with other choices.

The heart is going like a trip hammer!Lukedfrt said:EVERYTHING READY... GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
On the subject of the C4 lineup, looks pretty decent. Have absolutely no idea who Steve Jones is but I'm willing to give him a try, Coulthard and Webber will be brilliant pundits, Wolff will attract new viewers no doubt. Edwards and DC commentary will be good again, as will Lee McKenzie. The only thing I'm not sure about is Karun Chandhok as a pit lane reporter. I reckon there must be someone better. -
Thank you Mike! Ah I haven't listened to that in years, fantastic! -
Real shame they aren't showing it live, and it's in Mexico based around the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit so if the crowd in the baseball stadium is full then it should have a sweet atmosphere. I doubt it is, but fingers crossed it's full. -
I remember him getting incredibly pumped for the start of a Monaco Grand Prix many years ago, I think it was either 2002 or 2003, but he was going 'Are you ready? ARE YOU READY? HERE WE GO. GOOOOOOOO'. That's why I want him commentating again.
There must be a video of this somewhere! -
I stumbled across that article earlier this morning, everyone should have a read. I agree with you Hughesy, this is one of those situations where having an open cockpit would have helped a lot more.
It's such a dilemma, there are definitely pros and cons to both.
