    F1 2020 Beta

I’d imagine they’re still going through all the applicants and compiling a list of candidates. As well as that Codemasters are probably putting together the build that will be specifically for the beta. I’m sure we’ll see the emails sent when they’re ready. Just a small heads up to those who are new to the beta, please don’t expect all the features to be available (or everything we’ve seen from the youtubers videos), it will probably be a specific cut down version probably only featuring the FOM car as the focus will be on testing certain aspects of the game and not all the new features they’ve implemented. Best of luck to those fortunate enough to be selected 👍

Just heard from one of the RaceFans videos on the new game that Will Buxton will feature as the interviewer?? That’s awesome, RIP Claire 😢😅

F1 2020 Gameplay by Content Creators

GameRiots gameplay video has 25 mins of gameplay and looks glorious in 4K. Could be just me but some of the aliasing looks better in Bahrain from what I can see of the lighting poles in the background. Highly recommend taking a look at the gameplay in 4K as it looks so much better in terms of the detail. The engine sound of the Ferrari and Haas early on in his video sounds like an absolute monster, particularly with the downshifts. Kudos to the sound guys.

    F1® 2020 | First Gameplay Trailer

Biggest takeaway for me so far after watching some of the gameplay videos. Aarava mentioned that there is an option for a rear view mirror! Thank you Codemasters 🙏. As someone that predominantly plays in cockpit cam that feature alone makes me grin from ear to ear. Curious to see it in action. For me if they’ve managed to get the game engine to handle split screen multiplayer then surely a mirror option couldn’t have been an impossibility. Many thanks

    F1® 2020 | Spain Hotlap

Pretty sure the cockpit view in the video for Spain and Zandvoort have been tweaked from the default (which I’m imagining will be closer to the cockpit view we’ve seen in previous F1 games) to appear closer to the wheel and have more extreme “look to apex” setting to look more dramatic for the videos. All the settings will be able to be tweaked as with previous F1 games dependent on the players tastes.

So Dirt 5 is next gen but not F1 2020

I feel F1 2020 could potentially get an enhanced patch to make more use of the next gen consoles later in the year but of course it isn’t guaranteed. Worse case scenario both the new consoles are backwards compatible so we’ll still be able to play the game on the new hardware. I fully expect F1 2021 to be a lot more focussed on making more use of what the next gen consoles are capable of but not sure whether it would require a whole new engine like F1 2015 did, but I guess only the developers themselves can answer that. I guess one question is whether F1 2021 (if they went for a June release next year) will also be available on PS4 and Xbox One, or strictly next gen only.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

DiRT 5 looks like a blast and something anyone can pick up and jump into for some arcade fun. I remember when the Evolution Studios team joined Codemasters and for a long time assumed they were working on a new Grid game similar to Driveclub but was quite surprised when they announced Onrush. I remember trying it out a fair bit when they did an open beta and free to play weekend when it first came out and thought it was enjoyable and a shame when the game didn’t do so well. Maybe they should have made something based on an already established series like this or Grid at the time and not taken a risk on something entirely new with Onrush. To me this most definitely from the same team using the same engine they used for Onrush so you can bet it will have beautiful and colourful visuals and be a blast to play. Plus with it being under the DiRT umbrella it will hopefully attract more attention and hopefully be a huge success. To me this game seems to have a much clearer identity on what it is trying to be as a pose to DiRT 4 that felt a bit confused and in the middle of arcade and sim trying to cater to both crowds. Part of me does hope that at some point we might see another DiRT that is more playable for casual fans and yet still have rally as its core, but for now DiRT 5 seems like a fun and off-road arcade experience. I think with this they’re definitely making clearer the division between the mainline DiRT games and the sim-focussed DiRT Rally series which is probably no bad thing.

    F1® 2020 | Spain Hotlap

Many thanks for the response. Did wonder if the default view might have changed or tweaked but I guess we have plenty of options to customise based on personal preference. For the last 4-5 years I’ve always played the F1 games in cockpit view and can’t seem to be able to adapt back at all when I try switching to T-cam view.

@PJTierney Also a little curious about the cockpit view. I know on the first video showcasing Zandvoort track you mentioned adjusting the look to apex settings to get the interior replays. Curious to know if what we’re seeing of the Spain video is the default cockpit view (which seems much closer to the wheel than previous F1 games) or if you tweaked more of the settings like the field of view etc. Many thanks 👍

The changes to the track in the last sector look like a really good improvement. No more throwing the car into a spin from the camber of the track in turns 7-8 and turn 11, looks quite nice and planted. Visually no change from F1 2019 but that was kind of expected as the game looked probably as good as it could ever look on the current gen systems.

    Update kerbs in F1 2020

Two things jump out to me a bit. Whilst the camber of the track in places look a fair bit flatter, which is good news when it comes to Spain, it looks very understeer-y to me, or sluggish like the car isn’t responding to the turning. Could be wrong though without trying it to see how the handling might have changed. Another thing is the ERS. Looks like Mode 0 is Overtake mode so does look like they have made some changes to the way ERS works in the game. Looks like the whole lap is in Overtake mode assuming that this is from Time Trial.

    Update kerbs in F1 2020

Looks like they’ve listened and updated the curbs in sector 3 of Spain. Here’s the article with the details.... https://www.formula1game.com/2020/news/ride-on-board-sainz-s-mclaren-for-a-hot-lap-of-circuit-de-barcelona-catalunya-in-f1-2020

    F1® 2020 | Zandvoort Hotlap

Be curious to know how Codemasters built the track. Did they scan the old one and then tweak parts based on the proposed changes before the construction was completed? Think I remember reading somewhere that FOM sent them data for the track. Can imagine it being difficult to piece it together with limited referencing and would be interesting to compare if we get to see a real F1 race there this year. Maybe we’ll see some tweaks and changes for next years game as with France last year vs F1 2018.

[PS4 standard] F1 2019 lots of framerate drop

Only thing you can really try is to rebuild the database on the PS4. That said there are a few tracks where I’ve had noticeable framerate drops, turn 8-9 at Paul Ricard being one of the more noticeable for me. Not too sure how much the database rebuild helps but its meant to improve performance and de-clutter the hard drive so is something I do fairly regularly as it doesn’t hurt (only annoyance is that it rearranges the layout from the main home screen) .

    F1 2019 FFB settings? Share

G29 on PS4... All default except: Throttle Linearity - 20% Force Feedback - 50% Wheel Rotation - 360-400 Degrees (Depending on track) Many thanks to David Greco for suggesting the settings shortly after F1 2019s release, worked a treat 👍

    F1 2020 - Engine Sounds

Thank you for your reply. Quick question, is this engine sound in the Zandvoort clip the Honda engine sound that will be in F1 2020? I initially thought that the engine sound was a placeholder (as with the car) and might have been the engine for the multiplayer car? I know it must be frustrating with all the debates about the engine sounds every year and appreciate it can’t be easy when there’s constant comparisons between what we see from onboard footage and audio that’s been recorded from pre season testing. Appreciate the hard work and really appreciate you reaching out on the forums to explain the process and fans concerns 👍

    F1® 2020 | Announce Trailer

Some more info on F1 2020 from Lee Mather talking to Red Bull about the game... https://amp.redbull.com/int-en/f1-2020-codemasters-interview He goes into some more detail about the game and the new My Team mode features...
  18. Don’t know whether Codemasters could possibly do it, but would personally love for them to make the most of the lockdown and send all the F1 drivers like Norris, Albon, Leclerc, Russel, Latifi etc all a pre-release build of F1 2020 and get their input for the handling model and get some feedback from them. With there being no real racing at the moment and with how open they’ve been to competing in online races with the game it could be a golden opportunity to get real feedback to make the games more realistic than ever before.

    Chat about the 2019 season

Do you mean with regards to the actual F1 season? If so... For me I kind of wish Mercedes hadn’t been so dominant in the early races of the season and we’d seen more like Austria, Britain, Spa, Italy etc where Ferrari and Red Bull were much more in the mix and battling with the Mercs. Bahrain was tough on Ferrari and should have been Leclercs first win as he was on fire in that race. Would love to have seen Vettel more in the mix at the front too as I think that penalty in Canada definitely demoralised him for quite a few races. I think the season started off quite predictable with Mercedes far too dominant but definitely felt like we got some classic races in the middle and latter half of the season. I really hope the new regulations (when they finally get introduced) does level the field somewhat as I think it would be amazing seeing things like 2010 where we had so many different race winners for the first half the season making it a lot more exciting and unpredictable.
  20. I’d probably go for something like Toyota or Audi as a fantasy team joining the rest of the current manufacturers. Be curious to see how in depth the mode is in terms of customisation. Hopefully we’re not restricted in the teams names and too much in the liveries, although I’m definitely not expecting GT Sport levels of customisation. Would be cool though.

    F1 2020 on Ps5?

I guess they could potentially add a patch to F1 2020 that could make the game more enhanced for running on PS5. Could be wrong but think they did the same for F1 2017 when the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X came out? Can imagine it certainly being possible if they’re still patching the game when the new consoles are released and also backward compatible.

    F1 2020 BETA - Process Closed

Many thanks Barry. Whether fortunate enough to be selected or not I hope everyone enjoys the testing phase and helps the developers as best they can in helping shape the new game to be the best one yet 👍

PLEASE CM FIX WET WEATHER RACING

Pretty sure when F1 2019 was first released the AI were even more overpowered in the wet. Pretty sure they did slow them down a bit in one of the patches.

    F1 2020 Car Performance

Hi Barry, I don’t suppose if there’s any information on whether F1 2020 will have a beta this year? As regards to the team performance I’m sure it will either be based on an average performance from pre-season testing (possibly from something like this from F1 themselves ... https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.power-rankings-from-10-to-1-where-do-the-teams-stand-ahead-of-australia.3NhOSQN07l1E1b90evIyo5.html , ...or worst case scenario they could use the performance of the teams from the end of the 2019 season. I guess we’ll see.

I also share the same concerns. Last year the micro-transactions were limited to multiplayer cosmetics but part of me fears the new “My Team” mode is a way for them to encourage the same cosmetic purchases in career mode as well. Don’t get me wrong, I get it’s business and perhaps Codemasters plan on using those MTX to invest extra finances into the development and make the games better and better. For now though it’s probably unfair of me to assume anything until we see more of the game and learn more on exactly what the new features hold.
