Here’s a thought, if Codemasters really are working on WRC 2018 and are now the official licence holders, ...do you think they’ll go for the more ‘sim-cade’ handling style of recent F1 games? or do you think they’ll go for the more ‘simulation’ focussed handling of DiRT Rally given its reception when compared to DiRT 4? Personally I really think that if they do have the official licence then they will want to do similarly to what they’ve done with the F1 games any try to maximise the sales and appeal of the games to newcomers, meaning they’ll probably go for a more ‘sim-cade’ and approachable handling style.  I also think that if they were to return to the more ‘simulation’ focussed approach then they could use the ‘DiRT Rally’ name as a spin off series for the more hardcore players, ie DiRT Rally 2, 3 etc

Do think it’s too soon for DiRT 5 with the last game being less than a year old, kind of takes that one out of the running.  DiRT Rally 2 would please a lot of fans but like you say may not be quite as marketable? WRC 2018 however seems the likely contender given the lack of news from anywhere else on the next instalment in the WRC series.   ...Plus Paul Rustchynsky did say at the start of the developer conference for Onrush that Codemasters were “forging a new era to become the worlds number one racing studio”.   How better to kick start that new era than to not only have the official F1 game license but also the official WRC license too. Just food for thought ;)

DiRT 5, DiRT Rally 2 or WRC 2018... place your bets ;)

Anyone willing to speculate on what Codemasters posted from the DiRT twitter page?  “Nice that @Formula1game gets to announce a new game and that @onrushgame get to launch a beta today! Very cool.  ... Not the coolest thing going on at @Codemasters though, if you ask us. ??” Sounds like something big is going on behind the scenes related to the DiRT series :)

I remember the original Colin McRae Rally game on PS1 as a kid, a huge part of my childhood and I still really enjoy the game even now. I remember it having a Skoda Felicia in it (which rather ironically I had one crash into my car earlier on this afternoon with the driver being carted off by the police for drink driving :/ ). Does seem odd them doing a complete overview of the McRae/DiRT series, might not mean a lot but am definitely excited to see what Codemasters have in the pipeline for future rally games 

I wonder if the evolution studios team were already working on Onrush prior to being taken on by Codemasters? Definitely agree that a new Grid/Toca game made by them would be absolutely amazing though, who knows what CM have in store after they’ve finished working on Onrush :) I do hope that CM are utilising their skills to help the development of new F1 and Dirt games too but definitely think resurrecting the Dirt/Toca franchise would be perfect for them 

I’m guessing the patches for F1 2017 could be coming to an end very soon with 1.10 being the last, possibly one more but doubt it.  Hopefully will mean some more activity on Dirt 4 in the not too distant future 

If I had to guess I’d say that the guys that would otherwise have been working on the Dirt 4 patches and updates were called upon to work on the patches for F1 2017, given that it’s a licenced series I can imagine that they wanted throw as many resources at it as they could.  (Not that I agree with that as id have loved for Dirt 4 to have received a lot more love and support by the developers) I do believe that Onrush is being developed solely by the Evolution Studios team to be a fun arcade game, which I absolutely expect it will be.  Dont get me wrong, I was hoping for them to have been working on resurrecting the Toca/Grid series. But with all the recent racing games such as GT Sport, Project Cars 2 and Forza 7, perhaps CM decided it would be better to try something a little different rather than try and compete for the time being. 

Any news on Dirt Rally 2.0? :wink: Know it’s still early as Dirt 4 only came out earlier this year but would love to hear what CM might have planned for the next Dirt installment.
