Hey @justbiglee if you can, could you see if you can get someone to fix the bug that makes Dirt 3 crash with my gauges/transducers/motion simulator. It used to work fine in Dirt 3 1.1 but it got broken in the 1.2 patch. The official Codies response back in the day was that they were never going to fix it but I figured since you are working on the new patch to get rid of GFWL then you might be able to slip in this request. I would love to play Dirt 3 but without my gauges and tactile feedback then the game just feels dead and lifeless. In the Dirt 3 1.2 changelog, this is what broke it. -Physics output to motion simulators is now correctly faded out at the end of a race, preventing some situations within which motion would continue after crossing the finish line. I think this is the change which broke it and now the game crashes as soon as you cross the finish line with a winsock error. I think what is happening is it tries to close the winsock connection twice, the winsock error is 10038 which Microsoft says is caused by closing a connection twice. The problem is very easy to reproduce, You don't even need a motion simulator connected to see the bug, just enabling motion output is enough to make it crash. Just change this in the hardware_settings_config.xml file in your \Documents\My Games\DiRT3\hardwaresettings folder <motion enabled="true" ip="127.0.0.1" port="20777" delay="1" extradata="1" /> If you leave extradata at 0 then the game will work but with no telemetry, if you set it to extradata="1" then it will crash.

Hey guys. I just notices that Colin McRae Rally was just released on Steam!!! I wonder if it will support my triple screens and motion simulator. I am just downloading it now. I will let you know what I think.
-
Hi guys. I just though I would show what I think is one of the coolest new features in Grid Autosport. It is the Second Screen option. It is a standings, live track map and replay display which you can turn on in the options. I think this is a really awesome addition for those of use with way too many screens. Normally I run my telemetry display in my 4th monitor but I think this "Second Screen" option is better.

Dirt 3 Telemetry and Motion simulator bug
Avenga76 replied to Avenga76's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0 Support
Wow, really. Okay well at least we go an answer. That really sucks, I am getting really disillusioned by codemasters lately. It just seems that they don't care about people with unusual setups. I had the hardest time getting my Accuforce going with Dirt Rally, I ended up having to create custom XML files for it. I have posted my fix on tons of forums and written quite a few XML files to get peoples pedals etc going. This is really strange because my Accuforce works fine in every other codemasters game. They just need to let me override the controller type like you can in the F1 games. I have sent @justbiglee a couple of PM's about my issues but I have not had any response. I have also been having some other motion related problems which have gone unanswered. It just feels like we are being marginalized and ignored. I am about done with Dirt until they at least respond to some other the issues that us guys with motion or high end wheels have. Both of these problems could be fixed and the fact that they won't really puts be off codemasters. -
Just buy an Accuforce, then turn off the game FFB and turn on the SimXperience FFB and it works great. Tons of FFB then. Problem solved :p

FFB=Force Feedback
-
Hi. I have an Accuforce also. I have created a workaround that removes the deadzone and gets the wheel going. You need to use the SimXperience FFB because the game FFB is so bad. The good thing is that the SimXperience FFB uses telemetry so you don't have any of this weak canned FFB that others are complaining about. Make sure you turn on road bumps also because it really makes the game come alive. It is a pretty long winded guide but it will get you going. Give me a PM either here or on ISRtv if you have any problems getting your Accuforce going. Here is the link http://www.isrtv.com/forums/topic/17665-accuforce-and-non-supported-wheel-fix/

Dirt 3 - Steam with GFWL - error 10038 crashes game at end of **each** race
Avenga76 replied to momashi's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0 Support
It is a known bug with the motion support in Dirt 3. Are you using any for of motion or gauges or Sim Vibe? See my post here for more info. http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/183/dirt-3-telemetry-and-motion-simulator-bug Check your settings in the hardware_settings_config.xml file in your \Documents\My Games\DiRT3\hardwaresettings folder and make sure this line is set like this. <motion enabled="false" ip="dbox" port="20777" delay="1" extradata="0" /> -
I think Grid has stolen Dirt's thunder because it seems pretty dead here. Maybe this weekends Codemasters steam sale will bring people in to Dirt 3. I am still keen to see another Dirt Rally championship but at the moment it seems like it is only a handful of us hardcore DiRTies left.

I don't think a company has any liability to fix bugs in games. I know of many games with much worse bugs that never got patched. Sometimes companies even do the exact opposite with bugs. A perfect example was Tribes and ski jumping, the physics were so broken that you could fly across the map at ridiculous speeds, but instead of fixing this they made it a feature and now every tribes game since has included it. Tribes 2 had probably a dozen bugs that you could exploit in multiplayer. Most of them were never fixed. I remember me and a friend completely dominating a server just by using a few of these bugs. It was pretty funny because the game was so broken but it sort of became part of the game. Multiplayer sort of became about who could exploit the bugs the most, They had bugs that let you shoot through walls, reload instantly and heaps of other stuff.. The fact of the matter is that Dirt 2 is way to old for them to do anything about it now. As the other said they don't even sell it any more. It is like me wanting them to fix the bugs in Tribes 2. I am surprised anyone is still playing Dirt 2 let alone cheating in it. Surely they would have something better to do. Dirt 3 has a bug which crashes the game with motion simulators, it was an introduced bug that has been broken since version 1.2. So if anything that is the type of bug they should fix because the game no longer does what it could when I brought it. But they are not going to fix it. So yeah, games have bugs, it is just a fact of gaming.

Can we get working rev indicators? (G27 etc)
Avenga76 replied to Synergist's topic in General Discussion
I really like the new Fanatec stuff although I am slowly replacing all my Fanatec gear. I have replaced my CSP V2's for some DSD Wilwood breaks and I will be replacing my wheel with the Accuforce when it comes out. I like your sparco wheel. I will be doing the same when I get the Accuforce. These are my new pedals. Here is a video of them in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3axqNvgwcjw -
Anybody know what today would have been?
Avenga76 replied to SkiddyMcCrash's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
RIP Colin. It is very sad that all 3 of my rally hero's (Richard Burns, Colin McRae and Possum Bourne) all passed before their times. To quote the movie Bladerunner "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you have burned so very very brightly" -
Thanks @justbiglee That description is much better.

Dirt Series Remastered for Next Gen Consoles
Avenga76 replied to Wyrebender's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
Yup, The old ones are still very playable and don't need a remake yet. -
Dirt Series Remastered for Next Gen Consoles
Avenga76 replied to Wyrebender's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
Yeah, I play Dirt 2 & 3 at 5898x1080p on my triple monitors at around 90 fps. Still looks pretty sweet. On the console it is only 720p 30 FPS upscaled to 1080p so it is pretty bad on console. -
Dirt Series Remastered for Next Gen Consoles
Avenga76 replied to Wyrebender's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
I would want them to do it for PC also since PC's are way more powerful than the consoles. -
I agree with the rest of it but FYI, Corsica in the new Colin McRae Rally was France stages in the old CMR 2.0 I am guessing they changed the name because in 2010 the rally moved for Corsica to Alsace. So Tour de Corse is the old stages that CMR 2 was based on and Rallye de France is the new rally in Alsace, so if they left it as France then people might get confused. I am guessing they didn't want people to expect it was set in the Alsace region when it is set in the historic Island of Corsica

I do motorsport photography and I agree that is one of the best parts, hearing the cars coming through the forest. The anti-lag and backfires are so awesome.
-
I don't know if that is enough because it only addresses the lack of content and not the other issues I outlined in my last post like the simplified handling and damage, no pre-rally car setups etc. It is a good start. I think that instead of saying that CMR is returning to PC you should say that last years top selling mobile title is coming to PC. To me there is a big difference. When I think CMR is returning to PC then I expect all the other stuff like handling, damage and car customization which is missing from this version and your new changes to the description do not change this expectation. The new description makes me think I will still be getting the original PC CMR experience but with less tracks and cars but this isn't the case. Saying a PC game is returning makes it sound like it is that same game that is returning as a remastered version of the original PC game, in this case it is a new mobile game which is coming to PC.
-
@justbiglee I would say make it clear that it is a mobile port and not a full HD PC remaster of the original . This line I have a real issue with. It doesn't have the handling, damage or physics model of the original. I have played both recently and they handle very differently. The damage is nowhere near the level of CMR 2.0, in CMR 2.0 if you damaged you gearbox would would drop gears, I remember limping home on one rally with only 5th gear! In the new remake I haven't seen any real impact on car performance other then a screeching noise and visual damage. In the original you had so much more you had to repair. I think in the remake you have like 4 things you can repair and the original had 11. And if you didn't repair stuff or you got it severely damaged then you would have mechanical failures, like the electrics stopping and the lights cutting out, gearboxes dropping gears, diffs breaking and losing 4WD. This is what made the original so cool. I remember another time I was doing a night rally and my lights cut out halfway through the rally. It freaked the crap out of me and it was the only game of it's time that had that, even modern games don't do that. So it say that the new CMR shares the same damage model is a bit disingenuous. And some of the other wording just sounds a bit misleading. I know it is just hype talk but it does give you the wrong idea (It did for me at least) This line does make it sound like it is the original experience that is returning to PC. It isn't really, It is a mobile version coming to the PC for the first time. I would say the original was "the ultimate off-road racing game experience" for it's time but this version does not give you that same experience because of the reduced physics, damage and other complexity. I know it does say there is only three stages and only four cars but maybe make it more clear that it is a limited experience that you are getting and not the full content of CMR 2.0 When I brought the game I did think it was an HD remaster of the original because I didn't know about the mobile version. I am not disappointed because I support the whole CMR/DiRT cause and it is fun for a bit but I have the original on my laptop which is much better than this version because it has the full cockpit, all the cars, damage, physics plus all the stages I like. It think the problem lies in that there is different expectation between a mobile HD remaster and a PC HD remaster. On a mobile it is acceptable to have a stripped down version because of size constraints etc but for the PC the expectation is that it has the same content and characteristics of the PC version as size is not a limiting factor. I think people need to be aware that this is a mobile port so they know to set their expectations to that of a mobile game, not a PC game. Look at the Abe's Oddysee remake that has just launched on the PS4, that has all the content of the original plus improvements and it looks gorgeous. I hope the rewording is enough to help and that the damage hasn't already been done. From what I have been hearing public opinion about the game is pretty bad. I check the Steam store page and under the "More like this" section you have Air Control, Dues Ex: The Fall and Guise Of the Wolf. Which are three games that are known as the worst games ever on steam. So to be lumped in with them is not a good thing. I hope this has been helpful. I am still going to work my way through the rest of the rallies until I get the Lancia Stratos.

Back then it was quite common to have VHS and DVD because you couldn't easily record to DVD back then. I used to have a VHS to record TV shows and a DVD to watch movies. It could even be LaserDisc or VCD (Video CD's that only held 800mb so the video was so bad, I watched a few on my PC back then but it was terrible, worse than VHS, and it could only do 74 minutes per disc so movies often came on 2 discs). CMR came out in 1998 which was pretty at the beginning of the DVD's lifespan, and going by that there is 2 covers, I would say it would be VCD. In 1998 DVD Players were very expensive, some of them over $1000. I remembered I waited quite a while to get my first DVD player and even then I kept my VHS for recording and watching TV shows.

Nerd³ stuff is pretty funny and he is not wrong. It is a shame they don't say it is a mobile port in Steam. Saying it is based on Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is like saying it is the "Made for TV" Mini-series based on the movie based on the book. I see you got quoted in that video @justbiglee I didn't even know there was a give away. I might just play it until I get to the Rally of Finland so I can compare it to my recent CMR 2 video. EDIT: oh wait, I can't! they didn't include the Rally of Finland! Let me reword my first analogy a little bit "Saying it is based on Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is like saying it is the FIRST EPISODE of the "Made for TV" Mini-series based on the movie based on the book." Missing half the cars, half the tracks and the detailed cockpit is a real shame. There is only Australia, Corsica and Greece. It missing more that half the tracks (Kenya, Finland, United Kingdom, Sweden, Japan and Italy) which were probably my favourite stages. Plus they got rid of the Group B and Mk2 Escort which were my favourite cars.
-
Yeah, having played CMR2 and the physics are much better in the original. When I replayed the original I remembered the tracks straight away, even though I hadn't played it for a decade. With the new graphics in this version I only remember parts of the tracks. I don't think this would have taken much time away from the development of the next DiRT game because it is just a port from the mobile version using the Unity engine. How I like to think of it is that it is fundraising for the next DiRT game :D In terms of next gen graphics, it looks highly unlikely with the announcement of F1 2014 this week. That is still going to be on current gen so it looks likely they will stick with the EGO engine for the next DiRT game. I could be wrong, maybe they are holding off DiRT for a new engine for next gen. That would be awesome but who knows. My only hope is that they don't do the same blurry cockpit etc for the next DiRT. The fact that it is taking a while to come out is a good thing for me. I would rather they take their time and bring out a really awesome DiRT game, rather than rushing it like they did with DiRT Showdown.

I use 220 for open wheelers and 400 for everything else on my CSW

I wish they could of kept the cockpit view from Colin McRae 2. I recorded a video of CMR 2 a few months ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOdzwJZWjLg
