No blurred cockpit mod with WORKING mirrors (PC) (Codemasters please fix this !!!!)
Avenga76 replied to HoiHman's topic in General Discussion
You have a kick ass rig yourself. Thanks for the tip about the eyefinity_cameras_adjustments.xml I will have a play round with it. I am used to editing the camera files in DiRT 3 and F1 so it is good that they have added something for triple screens. I just had a look at that file and it is so much easier than other codies games. I will do some playing around with that. -
Thanks. I will be doing some videos of the Racenet challenges on my rig so I will post them on the forum. I have another wireless keyboard on my rig and the whole rig is on furniture sliders so I can just slide it out of the way when I am working then slide it back when I want to race.

Yeah in Euro Truck I use a lot of switches. They are just about to bring out an adjustable cruise control so I will bind that to a rotary encoder, that was I can fine tune my speed. With a sequential shifter in a rally car you don't use a clutch. They usually use dog boxes with a throttle cut on the up shift and an auto blip on the down shift. If you watch pedal cams from WRC etc you will see they use the same technique I use, left foot brake with no clutch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGk1p3-3kgY I have my rig on furniture sliders so I can just slide it out of the way when I am not racing, but it was expensive building my rig and it does take up a lot of space. -

Sure thing. I mostly use the switches along the side for other games which use more buttons, like on my right side the 2 missile switches are my ignition and pit limiter, the big glowing button is my starter, the rotary encoders are all my wing, brake and roll bar adjustments. On the other side are all my seat adjustments etc. The gauges are ran with 2 Symprojects boards as well as the 2 screens under the tacho and speedo. The center dash is a Sim Instruments dash. It shows things like best laptime, current laptime, lap delta, position and lap number. the screen on the right shows my pedal data etc and the one of the left is general laps and engine info. I also have a hydraulic handbrake and sequential shifter on the right and a H-Shifter and DIY handbrake on the left. I also have 8 bass shakers and a motion seat. I have quite a lot of videos over in the Dirt section but here is one of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXwFIOyk7HE -

I know my setup is very different to most peoples but I actually like the new zoomed in cockpit view. It is about the perfect FOV for my rig. Before I would have to spend ages editting camera XML files. Now I just put it in zoomed cockpit and she is all good. I am not worried about the in-game gauges not working because I use external gauges anyway. This is my view with in the Formula C -
AUSTRALIANS GET SCREWED WITH MOST NEW GAME RELEASES
Avenga76 replied to texaschainsaw01's topic in General Discussion
We have the same problem here in New Zealand. The official release times are Europe: 00:00 am CET on Friday 27thUK: 11pm BST on Thursday 26thAustralia / New Zealand: 9am Eastern Australia Time on Thursday 26th JuneRest of the World: 11pm BST on Thursday 26th http://steamcommunity.com/app/255220/discussions/0/540744936062776157/ That was over 2 hours ago for us in Australia and New Zealand. On the Steam forums they said they were having troubles getting it up and it would be some time over the next 24 hours. Again I don't really understand why they held back the release, I could go down to the local games store and by a PS3 or Xbox version and play it right now. -
DiRT 3 is on Steam Sale. Here's my question:

I used to rally an old Avenger and I can tell you if you go "off track" then things go very bad very quickly. This is what happened last time I stuck two wheels in a ditch in my old rally car. It took me about 6 months to repair the damage. At least in DiRT 3 you can push the reset button. As for grip in DiRT 3. I think it is fine, if anything you have a little too much grip. With proper throttle control it is pretty easy to control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO0mKJikcmQ

Try using this. It is a spreadsheet from SymProjects listing what every game does and does not support. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuUfvT6L0AhNdHBnODZuWkRIdWhWQjRtUHBYMHN6dmc&hl=en#gid=0 I know Codies games don't do position but they will tell you what lap you are on and lap timings. Of cause the best, last lap or lap number won't work in rally because you don't do laps but it will show the current stage time. I use the stage time a lot so I can see how well I am going.

My triple screens are 27" and the one on top is a 24" Sweet. I see what you mean now. That is actually very similar to my latest project (Yes I know I have it bad). I am using 2 Symprojects Simscreens to display data like that. I only got them this week but one of the profiles I want to design is a rally timing mode. The cool thing about these screens is that you can design your own display readouts. Codies games do output current lap, best lap and current lap times so I will make a display showing all of those. It can also show the current lap number but not position, that would be nice to add. I can share some of my designs when I make them. I plan to make one for Grid Auto Sport and another DiRT 3 one. My screens have buttons on them so I can cycle through the displays on the fly. If you did want to use a real Terra Trip then the Symprojects Rev-Burner would just plug straight in to it, you wouldn't need an Adrino board. I haven't had time to design my own layout but here is a quick photo of some of the layouts off the Symprojects website. You can see my timing info on the right hand part of the center display but I will also set up one of the side displays as a timing display.

You could easily get a Terra Trip running. I was actually thinking of adding one to my rig. The Codies games do output speed, RPM, gear, throttle %, brake %, clutch %, current lap, last lap and best lap telemetry but that is about it other than the motion data. You would use the speed telemetry for the Terra Trip just like in a real car. I don't know of any games that output distance data, usually you would just calculate that off the speed. I use a SymProjects Pro-Gauge and Rev-Burner to run all my gauges. You could get a Rev-Burner, set it as a speedometer driver and then plug it in to the Terra Trip and it should work fine. I use the trip meter on my speedo quite a bit for longer stages in rFactor like Transfagarasan (23.6km) and Targa Florio (72km!!!). In DiRT 3 it is a bit out because of wheel spin and jumps etc but that is what happens in a real rally car and a Terra Trip can be setup with workarounds for this. What I would like to see in terms of Telemetry is Oil temperature, water temperatures, Oil pressure, Fuel pressure and fuel level. That way I can use all my gauges. Other games like rFactor, iRacing and Euro Truck Simulator support all my gauges so it would be nice if Codies added that telemetry but I understand it is a niche market so I don't expect increased telemetry support. As you can see from my rig I am the same and I like to completely remove the HUD from the game and have all my gauges external on my rig and use my Siminstruments dash for timing data, position and shift lights. If you check out any of my DiRT videos you can see all my gauges in action (like the one at the top of this page), I also have some other videos on my youtube channel of the rest of the gauges working in other games. This is sort of the POV I see when I am racing. I sit a bit lower than that but my camera isn't wide angle enough so I had to sit the camera on top of the seat. When I drive the shift lights in the middle are about in line with the bottom of the screen.

That would be really cool. It would be good to show everyone what sort of hardware you can run with the Codies games. I can't wait until Grid Auto Sport comes out because it will be great to do some open wheel racing on my rig. I have asked both SimXperience (The makers of my GS-4 seat and Transducer software) and SymProjects (The makers of my gauge controllers) and they both said they will be buying copies of Grid Auto Sport when it is released so they can add support for all my gear. I will be doing some You Tube videos of GAS running on my rig when everything is all supported. Let me know if you want any more photos or info for the blog.

It comes with a nice padded seat cover. It is actually quite comfortable, probably more so than my old GT Omega seat.

It simulates the G-Forces you feel in a car. It has servos on the back which will move those metal plates to press against you like you would feel in a real car. For Dirt 3 the jumps feel amazing. As you accelerate you will feel the pressure on your back which feels like being pressed back in to the seat and when you brake it will press on the bottom of the legs, and in corners it will simulate the lateral G-Forces you get. In jumps you feel the bottom of the seat pressing against you as you go up the ramp, then it just drops away to give you an sense of dropping before the impact of hitting the ground. The panels can move up to 60 degrees and it can apply a heap of force so you do get thrown around a lot. Here is a photo showing how it works but they don't to it justice. I was amazed by how powerful the effects are and how real they feel. It really gives you a great sense of speed, braking and cornering because now you can feel how hard you are turning/braking etc. Here is a couple of videos of the GS-4 seat in action (Not my videos but it is the same GS-4 seat) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_yJOimm0us http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwuVfLFib5s

That is awesome. I would love to do something like that for my PC. I would need room for my water cooler and stupid amounts of fans though.

Thanks. You can see my rig in action in any of the DRC videos I posted in this section. I have since upgraded it with a GS-4 motion seat.

Personally I think the whole restart restart restart thing defeats to point of doing a rally championship. You don't see guys in the WRC getting do overs of their stages so why should we? I did all my rounds with 1 recce run and one timed run and then just lived with that time. It does reflect in my times but I think it is more accurate to what a real world rally championship is like, and at the end of the day I just race for fun. Even back when I used to race my Hillman Avenger in real life hillclimbs I would get maybe 4 or 5 runs over the whole day if I was lucky.

I can't play multiplayer because the latest 1.2 patch has a bug that breaks my motion sim and gauges. I have to run an unpatched DVD version.
-
I agree. Totally want an other season. A small break then Dirt 2 would be awesome.

DiRT Rally Championship Bonus Round - Monte
Avenga76 replied to justbiglee's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
Man, what a mission. I almost had a mechanical DNF. I was doing my recce run for the first stage and the vibrations from my transducers caused my fuel gauge to short out and take out all my gauges. I spent the whole night checking all the wiring and finding the short. The wires on the back of my fuel gauge are held in by a little nut and the vibrations slowly loosened it until the +12v power cable to the gauge fell off and shorted on the chassis. Because it is in my cluster pods I couldn't see it. I could tell with my multi-meter that I had a short somewhere because I was reading 0 ohm from the power wire to the chassis (ground). I will have to put on a lock nut so it doesn't happen again. It actually added to the realism because reminded me of when I used to crew for my friends rally car and we would be rushing to fix the car before the next stage. I got the moment it happen on tape so I will include it at the end of my video. I wasn't that fast because I didn't have much time after repairing my rig, literally did one run at each stage. -
Thanks. It is still a work in progress. Got some new dash LCD screens coming this week and some new pedals coming next month.
