David Greco's Handling, Driving and Setup Q&A

This is so true. Plus you don't have to learn techniques that won't work elsewhere. I was wandering: what does the AI run indicatively (in terms of setups)? They are so fast in the straights...is it due to the current balancing or do they run insane low downforce?

    Qualifying Times Scripted?

I'm usually out at the end of each session like in real life. I go out with lap time + 1 minute to go. I encounter more problems when I don't go out. But if you're at risk or in Q3 you should be out at the end of the session. 1 run as the session starts and the second at the very end. Works well even in the wet.

David Greco's Handling, Driving and Setup Q&A

Are you referring to the wings or the suspensions/arb that you are not using higher at the rear? I've tested default 4 modified and I've gained so much pace. Thanks man.

    Downshifting change

It's not hard to adjust to it. At the end of the day we come from years of muscle memory and judging entry speeds differently. It is crazy to think but we drive more "the same car" than real drivers. We definitely have more laps of bad/old habits when it's time to adjust...

    Free advertising for Codemasters

This is what being an influencer in 2020 is about. At the end they do make money playing this game. So in a certain sense they benefits from the game too. I actually like the way Codemasters is promoting the game. I love the games handed to specific YouTube channels. I would say more racing channels less generic gaming channels. Those have the views but sometimes you see videos and gameplays made by people who have no idea of what F1 is about. I guess it works with casual players but there are gameplays out there that can make a good videogame look bad...

David Greco's Handling, Driving and Setup Q&A

I noticed since the Beta. Presets 2 and 4 are good. World records have been set with them too. They're understeery but not like preset 3. Preset 3 is very very understeery (I mean 5-3 suspensions 7-6 arb...). Personally I have no problems with it since I develop my own base setups but I love fixed setup leagues and races. I'd love to have some aggressive presets or base setups. Even if it's not in the game but in the blog/forum. To have an idea of what conceptually based on the new handling a competitive setup should look like without any crazy combination...

    AI in game

I wrote it in the other post. The AI seems suspect expecially for those who were in the Beta. In many aspects, probably is due to the added downforce. From my experience is not the AI that cannot overtake but is the way they use the ERS. Or maybe their traction. They do divebomb but the problem is that in trains they can't get close to attack the car in front. It seems to be harder for the user too. But the user can manage the overtake button better and get the job done. I feel they're like neutralizing themselves. Which is a good thing because in F1 it's hard to overtake. But at the moment a slower engined car controlled by the AI is literally unable to overtake a better engined car controlled by the AI.

Has the AI got harder this year?

Online there are so many different opinions about the AI. @BarryBL has the AI been changed from Beta 2 to Beta 3 (and consequently to the final game)? Has it been adjusted accordingly to how the added downforce impacts different tracks? Cause I'm clearly seeing a faster pace (even taking into account the new handling) and less consistency across different tracks (even the Beta ones). I've seen users reporting that lap times are different platform to platform. Is it all right with the AI?

David Greco's Handling, Driving and Setup Q&A

Could you explain pressures better. It is more pressure more temperature but better wear. In the past was it the opposite: less pressures less wear? Another wuqestion about temperatures: is it me or overheating is easy but less tragic than it used to be? From my experience obviously it makes you lose time but less compared to the past from my experience. @David Greco CM

Manual ERS (FP only not Races)

It is manual because in FP you have to be able to simulate both long runs and qualifying laps. Essentially in FP you have a race mode and two qualifying modes (hotlap and recharge).

    Downshifting change

Downshifting is different. Personally I'm ok with the current downshifts, I'm having more problems with the the reduced engine brake in coasting situations. But I guess it's the price to pay to have that extra rotation downshift out of the game...

    Latifi in F2?

You start your career in last year's F2 to be in this year's F1. So it is correct...
  13. I saw it yesterday and thought the same thing. Obviously Lando had so much input on it. It doesn't work the same for other teams. And they still adjust different modes too. So a mix of 2020 with aspects of 2019 would be perfect. But I'm ok with 2020 compared to the exploitable ERS of 2019. I think it's safe to say that McLaren is the most realistic car in the game because of Lando's feedback on ERS and handling.

Has the AI got harder this year?

What did you change? EDIT: I would add that with new ers the user lost a potential edge too (in race pace and situations in particular)

David Greco's Handling, Driving and Setup Q&A

I would love to see an aggressive version of default presets to have some good starting points cause at the moment they are understeery and tend to overheat (I hate having to use league racing setups for offline). If it's not possibile in the game, different presets and setups could be uploaded to the blog. So my question is connected to that: the best/most sober way to get oversteer in this year's game? A lot of combinations from last year leads to overheating or a lot of potential traction left on the table.

    F1 2020 Dedicated Setup Website

Can you guys share some base setups too. A combination that with small tweaks is good in all the tracks or at least decent. I'm really struggling to find what works in this game. For some people 2019's combinations are working, but for me they are not...

    F1 2020 BETA - Process Closed

It doesn't sound that hard. I assume and hope that they have considered it for like 30 seconds and then abandoned the idea to focus on other things. It's plenty of things and features better than DAS. If we talk about Mercedes specific skills and designs I would prefer to see a well performed double stack or a "Vatteri it's James button".

    F1 2020 BETA - Process Closed

I suppose the only way to replicate it would be visually and coding the impact on car's performance. But there are so many implications: could the system eventually be developed in career modes with other teams? Would it break licensing rules? Plus it's already out of 2022 rules, so honestly I don't know if it worth it just for one car for a year or two...

    F1 2020 BETA - Process Closed

Personally I don't think DAS will be in the game. Probably it would have been in the game. But without real life races we don't know how Mercedes will use it during the race. Currently DAS is a big mystery even in the paddock...

    F1 2020 BETA - Process Closed

I don't know if they have access to early versions till release or if it is time restricted. But for sure they have more access to game modes, tracks and features. The Beta is less glamour and more substance. It has to be that way. Usually in the Beta there are no liveries or cinematic stuff. Which is easy to understand since youtubers play a version of the game that is meant to be shown to the public. Obviously Codemasters could have changed its Beta policy and content. Only time will tell. So we can't tell about updates but for sure they will always have the best looking version.

    F1 2020 BETA - Process Closed

For those who haven't been in previous betas. The beta is completely different than the early version youtubers are showing. There's a high chance that in the beta the only available car will be the multiplayer car without teams liveries. Youtubers have all the tracks available, it's unlikely in the beta. Beta testers are not allowed to show any gameplay. The function youtubers have is different. Beta testers test the game and give their feedback. Youtubers are there to give their feedback too but their main function is to promote the game. Their are part of the marketing, beta testers aren't. That's why they are allowed to show gameplay in a certain order according to Codemasters marketing plan.
  22. As in the title. I don't know how many users are playing championship mode and if the mode will be confirmed in 2020. In that case, I would love to see all the championships unlocked. There are many cool championships and I can't understand why the user is forced to gain points to unlock some of the most interesting ones...

    ERS Deployment - F1 2020

I lost track of all the topics touched in this thread. I read that someone was suggesting to go very slow during cool down laps to save energy anyway. It is only partially correct because cool down laps are not created equal. In a dry and sunny session you can do it. But imagine a dry to wet session in which you have 5/10 minutes to set a lap and you go out with more fuel. In that case your cool down laps can't be that slow. In real life it's the same: in many occasions out laps and cool down laps can't be too much slow. Drivers do customize their wheels. That's why they can manage so many things that well. So in real life a driver would have the option to choose between an on/off toggle and a press to activate button. They have so many shortcuts. So the on/off toggle is not unrealistic, but I agree that a push to activate option should be allowed too (since it's the most common). Lee Mather's interview by Tiametmarduk made me a bit more optimistic. I hope it's true that driving styles will impact ers management so that we won't have direct control but we will be able to interact with the ERS with our driving. I hope it's a bigger impact than the one the driver currently has on fuel. In my experience lifting and shortshifting has never impacted fuel saving enough...

Lee Mather Responds to Scanned Tracks

I don't think it will happen. Jumping the first year of new gen consoles would be pure marketing suicide. Companies will release their PS4 game to PS5 just to cover the new market. The F1 game in that sense is in a good position cause its release date is not close to next gen and 2021 could be out more than 6 months after the new consoles....

    ERS Deployment - F1 2020

The new system is indeed correct. But Lando during his stream said they don't change it that much. He didn't say they don't change it at all. I don't know for sure about the others, the problem for me is not the new system (of which I understand the concept behind) but the absolute lack of control (which is unrealistic). That's why I think 2020 is a step forward but not in the right direction. It's a better system but once you take control out of users hands I doubt they will come back with more control over a more sophisticated system (presets, variation and detailed mapping).
