DiRT Rally - It's here

Hi Mike . . . Miat said you would be jumping in . . This is more like the business, just how a game should be . . .the blueprint was laid down years ago, and years ago people said try and change it and you will ruin it . . . but leave it based on the real jobby and you have the winning formula, simple logic. I was watching the Argentina stage of the WRC last night and can confirm that CM have the flying dust just right, lol . . But, seriously, Dirt Rally really is what many of us have been waiting for, and already we have daily, weekly, and monthly online challenges. Good format; daily can only be run the once, I got it at night and smashed my headlights on the first hairpin by driving straight on into the parked vehicles; weekly is very smart, you have to get enough cash to buy the right car which means a lot of play; and the monthly challenge has a whole load of races to complete. My little mini S-type has a lot of work to do but as the advanced setup is unlocked I have changed the gear ratios and am now flying on the edge. Hopefully, a lot of the old crew will turn up and give this one a go . . . my money says it's only a question of time before Assie gives in . . .all we have to do is keep the "Dirt" thread on our site busy with praising comments, lol . . . Yep . . . Assie is now on Board, lol . . .  The video is called Beating Assie. Took over 2 mins off of his time on the daily challenge . . .

DiRT Rally feedback list

There are parts which look like a rework of CMR 2005 and Dirt 1 . . . no bad thing and what I would expect. Probably why it's on the old EGO engine ? The game is looking good and I hope CM  take the view that not all Rally sims have to be like RBR, that would drive many away.

Fantastic game but how do you get out without having to turn off the computer ?

DiRTy Gossip

Jeez ! . . what's with you guys ? . . the "in-house" "closed shop" called Codemasters have finally given us the opportunity to get involved with the development of a game. I've been involved with pcars for the last 3 years and if CM listen like SMS listened we can get our thoughts across instead of never ending wingeing when CM get it wrong. Paid for betas, early access etc., is the way it is now, and why not . . isn't being heard and possibly getting the game we want better than endlessly complaining about paying full price for a beta calling itself Gold. How does anyone know the benefits, savings etc., of getting involved ? . . we don't know how many cars or car packs we will get free for taking part, or tracks or anything else . . but that isn't the spirit of the new way of doing things, it's all about the game, the driving physics, the audio, the gfx . . .I'd rather have one car driving perfectly, perfect ffb etc., than 10 wobbly noddy cars. I start everything on a positive note, not a negative one, and having been here since 2008 CM have a lot of ground to make up for past mistakes and treatment of its customers, but as long as I see them at least trying to get through the muddy waters I'll hang around.

DiRT Rally - It's here

Lol nice to see you cross the corridor between the GRID and DiRT forums dude :D  In all seriousness I hope you like it.  Well, thankee, kindly . . I was always a Dirt man in 1 and 2 but cut'n'shut tracks in 3 finished it for me . . Dirt Rally looks like we might be getting what we asked for, Dirt 1 brought up to date. Unfortunately, if I was to show many my Richard Burns Rally sim they would run a mile, possibly the hardest racing game known to man, so it will be interesting to see how many take up the challenge of Dirt Rally. Watching the videos I can see it has all the hallmarks of a Rally sim, usual high quality CM gfx, great audio . . .and a long way to go before completed. I did notice that some thought £22 a bit high for an early access but many of us paid £45 for a full membership of pcars when we raced wire frames around square boxes . .and at that time it was a pre-alpha. After all the water under the bridge it is hard to keep the faith, some might say this is what we had been begging for, for years but had been ignored, now that CM suddenly take up the idea smacks of a last ditch stand . . .that is what I'm hearing, with many believing that CM are not Slightly Mad Studios and will not stay the course. I must be a sucker for punishment because for some reason I'm not drained of wishful thinking and reckon Dirt Rally is worth giving it a go . . Autosport pulled Grid out of the poo when it comes to showing that CM can still do it if they make the right decisions so if enough others take up the baton and do some serious beta work - assuming . .and it's a very big assumption, that CM actually listen to us and haven't thrown that in as another con trick - we could together nail it. There are a lot of very good drivers, and a lot of very good computer guys out there whose beta input would be invaluable . . .they just have to get interested enough. I do have one big niggle, CM have always boasted of their all-done-in-house policy . . . I know they must be aware of, paid-for-betas, early access etc., and would like to believe that they have finally woken up . .or someone has told them to wake up, but old habits die hard !

DiRT Rally - It's here

Howdy, BigLee, the old bugger is back and having paid his dues is downloading the game. Having been here since 2008, and suffered the treatment from CM for the past few years, I hope you get it right with this one ? Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of guys walking around with 2 fingers up . .  but having stuck it out for 3 years with pcars I'm ready for a new challenge . . . keeping an eye on CM, if you get my drift ?

do codemasters still make games??

Damn . . never expected to be back here, lol . . . Do they still make games ? . .god knows, but for £22 I'll give Dirt Rally a spin. After the shoddy treatment from them over recent years I expect nothing . .wouldn't surprise me if this is just a cash grab and they do nothing to develop the game. Pcars is coming closer to launch so after 3 years of working with that one I'll give CM a go, maybe they will surprise me . . . just like pigs will fly . . .

My public apology.

Fortunately, I haven't been playing GAS for quite some time so was oblivious of these problems. However, after many years of being around this community I have always tried to keep things balanced, criticism and praise when due. I've played many racing/driving games (my most recent heavy indulgence being, The Crew), and have still not found any game with better [for me] driving physics than Grid 1 and GAS, imo. I'm not into criticising racing games across forums other than to give a brief comment about them.  Forget The Crew as a "racing" game (I bought it for TDU type "cruising") although many have bought it mistakenly thinking that it is. The Crew, like just about every other game out there these days, has a mountain of stuff to patch . . .and where so many think of it as TDU3 it very much comes across as another NFS game also. So CM have had their problems ? . .tell me of a company which hasn't ? . .but at the end of the day we'll keep coming back because no other game drives like a CM game . . .when they get it right.

New structure at CM ?

Bad analogy there mate. People would blame the bus company for poor maintenance. Usually, blame is often attributed where there is no, or only an obscure and/or confused, reason present. Metal fatigue could not be discovered by any maintenance team unless they ran a stress test on every piece of metal involved at every service, and your reply has actually proved my point . . .you went looking for a human to blame rather than see the point I was making, namely, that a situation can exist where a human cannot be rightly blamed but the average person will do his very best to find one. I used the analogy of metal fatigue because I expected people to miss my point by trying to find the fault in just that statement. In truth metal fatigue will only manifest when it is too late because it would be unreasonable to strip a unit down to its component parts over and over again without first having a very good reason for so doing.

New structure at CM ?

Thanks, BobbyDeacs, and a very good rant from you. I find it rather amusing that we should keep our particulars to what is possibly behind the myriad of petty detail indulged in, in posts all around ours. It is not some simplistic comment for me to say that profit is the one individual to blame, to go further is to enter pure conjecture, all guesswork. It's a bit like saying a person is angry, or jealous, or hateful. etc., etc., when all one has to say is that, that person is fearful, because behind nearly all of our emotional manifestations lies fear. A human trait is to blame a person, why ? because they can inflict something which will return a certain sense of satisfaction. A bus mows down the queue of people waiting at the bus stop, it was caused because the brakes suddenly failed. They suddenly failed through metal fatigue. The people will blame the bus driver, they need to blame the bus driver, they cannot get a response from a piece of metal fatigue . . .and we are so conditioned even the bus driver will blame himself. Profit is an equally inanimate, dead, object, but it touches and affects the lives and actions of all involved at Codemasters. Like fear, it is the root cause behind the problems, but if a human sacrifice is required look no further than the main shareholder . . .

New structure at CM ?

BTW, I've been here since 2008 and have all the Dirt and Grid games + F1 2010. I'm enjoyng Autosport and will continue to do so, but with a certain affection towards Codemasters I have seen the changes over the past 7 years and it is sad when a company has gone so badly wrong. For me, and many of my friends, how a company could mismanage a bafta winning game (GRID) in the way CM did will always be etched into our minds. It isn't a mystery like some think, Grid was a fluke, the true path of Codemasters was the one taken in Dirt and F1 series. Their resistance to our requests for another Grid was simply because they knew they couldn't replicate a fluke . . . but Dirt 2 was/is an excellent game which got equal, if not more, play than grid.

New structure at CM ?

You are all looking in the wrong direction . . . check out who has the 65% then you will see that Codemasters has become a company under a heavy strain of having to produce a certain profit margin for its masters (and there is no "code" in who they are). The demise of Codemasters is twofold; the above is one and the other is the delusion of illusion. We see a graphically good game, we experience an enjoyable driving experience, but that is part of the delusion of illusion, there is no cohesion, no well managed nitty gritty, all the stuff which is supposed to create and support a well architected game is missing . . .and all the time the puppeteer is shouting for his return on outlay. Of course, the latter part is conjecture, but even an idiot can link the parts (history of actions), to get the picture. The environment needed to create what we want and what the creative side of the company want is absent. One way to succeed is the model shown by Ivory Tower. Two exceptionally good programmers formerly of Eden got fed up with the puppeteers called Atari so set out on their own. Secured a partnership with Ubisoft and Asobo studios to produce a game with all the elements of TDU and NFS, and produced a massive game for high end rigs with all the stuff they know we like  (one of which being no loading screens), and which Atari stifled in them because they put profits first, to the detriment of the quality of the product, the product being TDU, and The Crew is effectively TDU3. I know I'm not too far off of the mark when I say that the majority of real talent jumped ship long ago for similar reasons as the two at Ivory Tower, puppeteers being too shortsighted. True talent getting compromised doesn't work in people like programmers who worked their way through Uni knowing they had to be amongst the best to get the jobs they got. Sooner or later frustration seeps in and the rot starts, so they go looking to find the place which will appreciate their talent. Whatever the internal politics the details don't matter to us, people walk, people get sacked, people get moved around, as an investor in companies that tells its own story no matter the industry. Once that is established we focus down on the detail, the type of industry, the inherent weak points in that industry . . . the status of the largest shareholder, the influence of the largest shareholder. Codemasters' tale is a very easy one, very uncomplicated because of its commonality, the large shareholder can support it as there cannot be any "goodwill" value left to raise funds on, the employees will have to compromise everything to keep their jobs, the product will always be second or third class as there is no free money for talent throughout the whole string of the process of creating and publishing a game. If anyone wants to point out just one individual, profit.

New structure at CM ?

Take a look in after a few months away and what do I find, same old, same old . . . Codemasters is like some flailing animal stuck in a mudhole, refusing to realize that it is game over. Their talent left the house a long time ago and all we have had for the past few years is embarrassing failure after failure . .no cohesion because of bad or/and incompetent management. They know it, we know it, so it's time they grew a pair and called it a day . . . Must fly, The Crew is great fun . . .

GRID Autosport Feedback

Someone posted that the 2 won't work together, and many others agreed. Can't remember how it went but something like, you have to turn off upgrades for tuning to work - at least I think it was that way around ?

GRID Autosport Feedback

Just been enjoying some career open wheel and it crossed my mind that CM could save itself a whole load of grief . . .dump all tuning, make every car the same so it is down to the driver to improve their times by improving their skills, we really don't need any tuning in the game. Look at Grid 1 with patch 3, a completely level playing field, and we loved it . .

GRID Autosport Feedback

I play both offline and online. Don't get me wrong, I get some pleasure out of the game if my mindframe for it is being compliant, but a rocket up Loore's backside every now and then keeps him on his toes, and I do mean what I complain about. The guys on our site, and Tony and his mates on his TS, all provide very good fast and clean competition . . .although I am a bit of a masochist and like the randomness of public servers, something a bit thin on the ground. Because winning is of little interest to me - I like the midfield action - I have more tolerance for those who wish to play like idiots. They will always be there and will never go away so why beat my head against a wall. ALL online games should come with text chat, and the majority do . . .so what the hell is CM thinking when they deliberately leave it out. Not putting in text chat and the capability to join a session at any time and view the proceedings, by way of a patch, has not done them any favours because any game in the future will have to carry them from the start, otherwise we will know that what isn't there isn't coming . . . meaning some will not buy. It is a continuing mystery to me that CM fail to acknowledge how we police ourselves online, something we must have text chat for. Many a wayward miscreant has come into line after some choice words and/or collective ramming when the matter has been discussed . . .but to discuss anything we need TEXT. CM have managed another first . . . for the first time CM put out a season pass, and a season pass is supposed to save one money, at the end of the day those of us who were mugs and bought it from the off will be paying more than those who didn't.

GRID Autosport Feedback

I'm on PC. The driving physics are ok but the game has no soul, nothing to create the kind of cohesion we had in Grid 1. CM's continual ignorance about the value of text chat has given the game a short sell by date . . .and it wouldn't surprise me to discover that, that was deliberate. I'll mess around in it from time to time but there is no desire for any serious consideration of giving it anything more than that. CM self-destroyed the FPS arm through total incompetence by being out of touch - sounds familiar - with what their fans wanted, and it's only a question of time before the racing arm goes the same way. By any criteria the racing arm is a hotch potch of discordant parts so it's no wonder the compost heap of bugs is ever increasing. I can't even say faster than they are fixing them because they don't know how to fix them . . . again I am reminded of an old Jewish saying; " if 12 people tell you, you are ill . . .lie down". CM . . . call it a day.

GRID Autosport Feedback

Hahahaha . . . there are SOOOoooo many bugs many people have stopped bothering to complain about them . . . the game is out of nursery period so what you have is all you're getting . .

GRID Autosport Feedback

Same feedback as last time for me, I did 4 sprints and that was enough for me, about 20mins play in weeks. I haven't really got any worthwhile feedback, I've been here for 6 years and now called it a day. My first and last season pass is already half price but hey, why should I be surprised ? This is the real joke, I, and many others, bought the season pass to save money on individual dlc, and it is the saving on the season pass that we miss out on, hahaha, the joke is firmly on us . . .and the last nail in the coffin for CM. The incompetence of CM in introducing more problems than they cure seems to be the way of the company and Autosport has definitely proved to be a cash grab. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, plenty of lipservice from the usual sources but that is all it is, and most of us have caught on to that fact . . .CM is a business, in my book an incompetent business, but no matter, they know how to milk the suckers and there will always be plenty of those queueing up. For me Warframe and TDU2 poker keeps my online attention, and The Crew is definitely looking like the business when it comes to satifying my interest in driving. Pcars is still too full of bugs and after all this time I'm fast losing interest. I know from the lack of enthusiasm on our site that yes, there is interest in Autosport from a selection of old Gridders, but there is none on a par with Grid 1. People have had enough BS and moved on. Lastly, the days when a CM game was an automatic buy is now so long ago I've totally forgotten what that enthusiasm felt like, but one thing I haven't forgotten are some of the employees I knew who got out, moved on because they could see what was coming . . . now it's time for a bunch of us to do the same . .

Loore why cant we

You are right but maybe the problem now is the many platforms and how they are set up. Personally, I like to have leaderboards, but if it was one or t'other I can live without leaderboards if it meant having every track in TT and any car on any track.
23. CaptainJack

Loore why cant we

You must be new to racing games ? Time Trial is a basic for all driving games. It is for testing all cars and all tracks, a bit like the practice ranges in Battlefield, finding and practising driving lines and braking points. The leaderboards adds the element of not just competition but also letting you know what is possible and where you are on that list. It helps to know the tracks well, and if you race on a track and find yourself slow in certain parts, go into TT and practice those sections. In Dirt 2 I used to walk the track - something pros do in real life - by driving it very slowly, and only then did cambers show up to be much steeper than I realized when driving them in a race . . .you can do this in TT . .
24. CaptainJack

Loore why cant we

I pushed a lot for TT and am grateful for what we have got. TT for me is to learn lines and braking points and there is more than enough in TT to do just that.

GRID Autosport Feedback

Haven't been in the game for a few weeks, busy with other things, but a big thanks to Loore and CM for putting in the TT . . .this will be well used by me . . Game is just getting better and has definitely passed the initial yeah or nay stage . . . but spectate mode when joining a lobby and streaming text chat are still a big must. Keep it up CM and reputations can be rebuilt . . .
