  1. When ever someone mentions a rainy F1 race, I can't help but think of the real life rainy footage of F1 at Spa, 1966 season I think, that Frankenheimer got in his movie Grand Prix.  Great stuff. Frank

    Standard of Racing

    Oops.  Sorry.
  3. Looked up some climate data, and KL gets about 8 feet of rain per year, average.  Pretty wet for racing, I reckon.  Around here we get 12-13 feet per year, average.  Rain tires, anyone? Frank
  4. Surely the racing season there doesn't coincide with the monsoon season, or does it? Frank
  5. Quite a teaser, Loore.  I will never forget my earliest GRID experiences back in the summer of 2008.  Had just started fooling around with racing games a few months before I got the GRID demo, and I was at first intimidated by the menus and interface, they were so unfamiliar in my limited experience with other games.  Than came the demo's San Francisco race in the Mustang Concept GT-R and I was more deeply intimidated and fascinated.  It was so utterly captivating to a new racer.  I thought, what is this, I'll never be able to anything with this, this is way past my pay grade.  But it was so beautiful I just had to keep coming back and finally started to acquire some degree of comfort.  Then I bought the game (full price of course).  Then I got to race at San Francisco again, and a whole bunch of other cool venues.  GRID was not like any of the older racing games I had tried, and was far more addictive, entertaining and satisfying.  It is still the racing game I go back to over and over again.  And though I haven't played a demo of GRID: Autosport yet, I'm hoping Codies are going to extend that experience with the new title.  It's sure looking good so far. GRID and San Francisco.  A match made in the U.K.  Thanks Codies, for all the great times, past and present. Frank

GRID3 "a must have" features list.

Maintain the original GRID handling, and similar post processing and color filters. Maintain assists, each on an independent on/off toggle.  (career) Maintain original Difficulty settings, from very easy to near impossible (career). No pit stops, track rules, flags, safety car in the career except in Endurance races. In the career, maintain female names in the player names list.  (They are back in GRID A) Car behind arrow. Practice laps, without qualifying laps. Touge. Drift. All the GRID tracks +. More Club racing in the career as well as Touring Cars, GT, etc. Give serious consideration for Drag racing, at least in the career, perhaps as a Party mode (like Derby).  I know this is a departure; never been in ToCA/GRID as far as I know, but what the hey? Keep the Mazda 787B, for one. Bring back the TVR Tuscan Challenge, make room for the Mini Cooper S as well as a lot more no doubt.  If Club racing is expanded, add the Mazda MX-5, Honda S2000, etc. That's all I've got for now.  I guess I don't need to mention my input is all regarding the career game, as I don't do online.  Thanks. The Q&A Thread

From Loore: Q) Why did Codies not add a flag system to GRID AS A) There’s a danger if we go down the route of adding all these traditional sim options that the game will lose a bit of its identity. That’s not to say we won’t look at that kind of system in the future but right now it’s probably a step too far towards sim for Autosport, we’re all about that ‘middle ground’ Bravo! Frank

    Career / Single player.....any point?

Just a little dig, RTA.  But some of us really enjoy the career in GRID.  I'm still enjoying it, and have been for more than 5 years.  Played a couple hours yesterday, and there are still unmet challenges for me.  Like how to win with my keyboard at Savage or Extreme without Traction Control.  And how to drift at least adequately.  And learning to enjoy Derby.  All unmet challenges that I can still look forward to.  GRID fans come in all shapes and sizes.  GRID is what we have in common. What you want to see from GRID

How about a .pdf manual explaining how to use the Advanced controller settings for the newbs?  It took me quite a while to figure all that out when I started with GRID - it was only my second contemporary racing game, the first being NFS ProStreet and I was totally ignorant.  The one-liner explanations were woefully inadequate at the time.  Eventually figured it out through reading a lot of forum posts, but it shouldn't be that difficult. And if you do that, a chapter on graphics settings and the relative importance of each in tuning for a less than stellar configuration. Thanks. Frank PC/keyboard, offline single player.

    Career / Single player.....any point?

The point is single play and the career game are real, multiplayer is just a figment of the internet.  Anyone who has played the GRID career has raced for Ravenwest, in the Ravenwest Viper at San Francisco; the one lap qualifier for the Rookie license. Frank PC/keyboard, offline single player

The Mini Cooper S is great fun in any racing game I've seen it in.  Should be worth a whole new championship just to get it in there.  Maybe a Party event.

What you want to see from GRID

I can drift the very first track drifting events with a keyboard, but it gets much harder very quickly and I finally gave it up.  That's one of the great things about GRID.  There's so much diversity you can skip big chunks of what's there and still run a very satisfying career.  I keep telling myself I'm going to spend more time with Drift and get it down, just not yet. Frank PC/keyboard, offline single player. Want to hear the real shocker? I've drifted my whole drifting life in GRID 1 on a keyboard. Yup, no joke. I got meself a G27 steering wheel, but I got so accustomed to drifting with a keyboard in GRID 1 that I never really wanted to change away from that. And there's only a handful of people whom I know also keyboard drift because it's obviously very hard to do and gamepads like 360 controller are so much easier and smoother to use and drift with, haha. The best one I know aside myself definitely is SRTKOS27, one mad Ukrainian drifter. I can keep up with Rastus on the US drift tracks even though he uses a wheel. I got a good one with SRTKOS27 as well, in the HKS Freestyle mode!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG0ujX29MX4&hd=1

    Lets talk corner cutting

Would a stop and go penalty work - you get one lap to do it in?  Not in a point-to-point of course. Frank

    Lets talk corner cutting

Yeah.  A nifty part of GRID.  Debris stays on the track, but dwindles with each lap - like the sweepers are out there cleaning up as much as possible when it's safe.  Small detail, but very cool - and here to stay, right?  Very glad I never have to dodge the sweepers themselves. Frank

What you want to see from GRID

As a single player I mostly agree with gor, although we're getting some improvements over GRID:  more helpful mini map, car behind arrow, and what sounds like most (if not all) the old tracks plus a bunch, and more cars.  And I believe audio effects have been improved, though my integrated monitor speakers are not quite stellar. I am disappointed that much of GRID''s simplicity has been sacrificed, but there have always been plenty of GRID players supporting more customizing, tuning, upgrades and qualifying laps.  Even so, we are told that these developments are optional, at least in the career.  A save, maybe. So it's still down to handling, which has to be experienced.  I understand that Codies are fully occupied meeting the release deadline, but I hope a demo is offered as soon as possible for the sake of latecomers at least.  I know - after release and after post-release blues fixing bugs, etc. If I was King of the World it would be different, but it looks to me like we're getting a GRID sequel (please, please let the handling not be buggered); late, different, but recognizable.  At least in the career game. Frank PC/keyboard, offline single player. Installation disc for the World.  And a Demo.

    Lets talk corner cutting

Are cutting penalties applied in all racing in the real world?  Seems like if we're going to have them they should be applied as and where/when they are in real life.  Just a thought. Of course, if there aren't any in the career, or if they can be turned off, I'm good to go. Frank
  19. I don't think Derby can be called a Discipline.  More like The Universal Chaos of full entropy. Frank
  20. I still don't know if your liveries are for G2, or for GRID A.  Or both? Frank
  21. Kinda stuck on GRID2, eh?  Or is it GRID: Autosport? Frank
