DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I must say that Dirtfish area looks really interesting. Probably will spend time there also, it's big area and it seems to be about pure training. For freeplay there seems to be enough different sections there in Dirtfish rallyschool area to probably invent your own little sprint rally stages and time them using something like stopwatch while comparing different cars. Spain looked cool also and something mentioned before about stages running through villages and such.. man, i can't wait! Hmm.. wondering about france... maybe he just got it mixed with spain. One can always dream though

KickUp said: Maybe it just said Dawns, maybe there was no secret? Yeah, sure.. of course it meant only that. Just let me get my Tinfoil hat and you can tell me more about swamp gasses & weather balloons :D I WANT TO BELIEVE!!

Would not want to go too offtopic, but i got to ask what other pedals you use and how did you set them up. I have DFGT also and another DFGT (which i got cheap) and i've been wondering how could i use that other pair of pedals as a clutch. Now i only use it as a "dummy" clutch.. (so it's not even connected to anything) I keep the other set of pedals to the left of the main ones and use the other gas pedal as a clutch (because it's lighter than the brake) and leave the main ones as is. Just connect the other wheel, (doesn't even need to connect the power, just USB, because power is for the FFB, which you won't need), and in game just assign the other wheel's gas pedal as a clutch. Thank you! I will try this today. I had my other wheel not connected to pedal set (thinking about modding it) and somehow i always doubted, but never tested that you could use 2 X DFGT without their input info clashing or even get compurer to recognize both wheels / let them work sametime

It's a great question and we believe it would be possible but we are not allowed to do it.  If you have surround sound, you can split the center channel off to a headphone.  I believe center is only used for voice (i.e. codriver) Ah that is true Then you can probably do it with stereo sound using Mid/Side splitting.. although that's a different story.  Also works quite well for me atleast just using a pair of in-ear headphones, helmet, and cranking the s**t up from my speakers..

@KickUp I somehow managed to make this above text to sound like a rant. What i meant was just to ask that is there any plans to provide players a maybe a somekind of suggested "realistic behaviour" setup & settings for different wheel models concerning Force Feedback, to get most out of your newly enhanced physics etc. Upgrades. Edit: Don't worry everyone, won't ask this again in this topic :D

@KickUp (sorry to ask this again) Is there any possibility to see you providing realistic FFB (maybe even including, profiler etc.) Settings for wheel you have a support. It would be a great thing for a player to be provided with most realistic FFB & wheel settings, that have been calibrated with real life drivers. His would mean that players (like me) who don't have any real racing experience can trust that they are getting most realistic experience their wheel model can provide. It could be shipped with game or just make a blog post or similar after release

You won't get that level of control over the way a stage is generated. We may introduce more of this later on but for now the variables are length and complexity. As for Music 2000... I think there might be some but I don't think they worked directly on the title. They will have worked on the Box Art and there may be some testers left. Hopefully there will still be some variations when generating. So a fully complex stage have some fast sections in it as well. Of course - by only having the two sliders it allows for much more variation to occur. Thanks for the answers @KickUp  Just for clarification.. so it is possible already that Your Stage might create stage that is technical with some fast sections thrown in also? Edit:  PS. If you run to those who worked on music 2000, you can tell my sincerest gratitude for making it

@KickUp Probably this will go under the radar asking this at this time of day, but is it possible for Your Stage to create variations to the flow of the track. Like starting with high speed sections and ending in more technical inside the same track. I'm waiting Dirt 4 and it's new features so much that other racing games does not seem to be "delivering" joy so much anymore, especially in the career mode front. Anybody else noticing same? (Maybe ME:Andromeda and outdoor activities will keep me occupied until release. ) There is always grid 1 to play too.. Keep us the good work Codies! Ps. I'm wondering if there is anybody still working in Codemasters that also worked in making "game" called Music 2000? Thanks to that piece of software and to people who worked on the game, i was able to start my music career as a youngster !

There are some quite fun to drive tarmac rally stage mods. Many of them being RBR mods converted!

I would suggest to use Normal and Simulation. Should not be a problem to most casual players to be playing normal or to be labeled as "The Normal Guy". If it still is too much for someone to be a mere "normal" then they are more than advised to learn it the hard way (Aka. Fun Way) @KickUp This next one would mean a world to me if added. Any change of this time for you, to provide presets for what you (or some other IRL rally driver that you can get to help you) thinks that is the most realistic FFB & wheel behaviour settings for as many of supported wheels as possible.  Because all your hard work for physics and ffb (at least in my case, having no real life knowledge) will be flushed down the toilet if the player has wheel and in-game settings wrong. (Dirt rally has so many different settings presets and tips out there, some even from me for Logitech DFGT, that even with one wheel you can get totally different feelings and driveability). I would love the fuzzy feeling when i know that this settings you *CM provided, would be the most realistic behaviour for this wheel that it can produce. This does not even have to be shipped with the game at launch. You can put them in this forum, or to the game with updates afterwards.  :) <3 Edit: As in "you" above, i mean of course Codemasters as a company.  Ps. No dissing for the casual player meant..

Don't worry you are not! Would like to see them too and also Renault Clio Williams Maxi from 90's Ps. I think they could put something like that in future to the game or future title to address new drivers.

Since I had the unfortunate displeasure of having to deal with a swarm of cheaters in another game, I do know that there's such a thing known as "Cheat Engine" and it basically changes the data in the RAM, therefore a hash check won't do anything as the game files are never changed. Hacks do alter the game files usually, but cheats aka trainers... most of the time don't, which is the biggest issue. Much like the Game Genie which Codemasters themselves invented and sold. ;) That little irony should never be lost on any of us here. If it wasn't for the Game Genie, Codemasters might not have been able to grow into the company it is today. There was a lot of money in that during the 8 and 16-bit console days. Many foundations laid. Nothing wrong with these tools themselves and they can be amazing fun in a single player experience. Blame the people that exploit them for no purpose beyond intentionally ruining other peoples experiences in multiplayer. Not the tools. EDIT: Because I just always tease him and Jamie all the time. https://twitter.com/BrySkyeGaming/status/695283686909046784 Seriously though, 25 years ago, @Hatward 's job at Codies might well have been creating Game Genie codes. Haha i have one of these too.  Also never should anyone underestimate, how many electronic music artists or musicians of any genre in certain generation have started their journey with or used at somepoint Codemasters Music 2000. I still have it (with my old Ps one and memory card with some of my first songs i ever made).  Happy times

If only Milestone's sounds engineers modulated the ST 185's engine sound professionally from this game. Haha this game audio has some proper grunt to it

That is true and somehow i feel Latvala is trying to act like him now. Which won't work because he's not Ogier. I still believe that Latvalas biggest rival is still himself, and by that rivalry he is not consistent. I am not saying Latvala would run over ogier all the time even if he would find self confidence, but the way the situation is now there is not even a challenge for the young maestro on the title fight.  I think Meeke has, or should i say he had some similar charasteristics, and seems to have found confidence, maybe in a form off "no pressure, i got the deal in my pockrt for next season" mentality. He also seems to be tired off thinking too much and explaining. He has now more like do and dont talk mentality. I think many Finnish masters before were like that. No bs, and more "but i know i can drive" mentality. In a sense quite selfconfidence and maybe thick headed, but always doing their own thing! Same with Loeb, doing his own thing always and a trust in his abilities. All those people were true to them self.

What i will write next could be atleast in my mind, related what happened with Latvala and him not stopping to help that spectator. There is also other reason like, adrenalin rush, narrow field of focus when driving etc. So to the point... Anyone else noticed change in Latvalas tone, voice and attitude on interviews before Monte. Even on interviews on stages and between them he only once felt like him old self. Rest of the time he was acting really serious and as a fan of him i noticed that, he even seem to use different tone when speaking (much lower) and did not have even this same finnish rally accent any more.  There was news before Monte, that he and his closest crew, family and friends (also his mental coach) had an special meeting where they discussed of many things what needed to change if he wants to be world champion. One of those areas they talked was his psychological attributes. That area is something many times mentioned and noticed by people to be his weak link (He also have said himself that, he things too much, and over analysizes, needs to grow mental etc.) he seems to be always very "emotional" and lively and he really seem to thing about things very deeply. I don't think those things are weakness at all or something you should learn away from, vice versa if used and harnessed correctly it his greatest strength. Now to me it seems he is trying to be something he is not (cold hearted, winner takes it all, keeping it cool and "cocky" kind of guy) or atleast be super serious all the time. What he should do is truly learn to trust himself and be that cool, lively, over analytical, kind guy who is also freakishly fast when he truly believes in what he can do. Then he would be World Champion, no doubt, because he truly is a gifted driver. Just my two cents..

Same here! I haven't even been a forum member before (i'm quite insecure in this things) or at the least commented / given input on game that i now have. I started lurking in the old forum after seeing Dirt Rally whispers somewhere. Even then it looked like this Dev-Team really wanted make something great and listen to community and after EA things has been just great!  So you truly are, making something different.

Ahahaa i restarted after Flying finland. Made my self a career mode with sponsor contracts that makes it i guess harder to climb up the ladder (i made it semi-deep but going to make it deeper anyway if someone is interest or even help with excel files etc. let me know!).  I did also spend too much time testing FFB setup without getting any credits (before implementing it to my career mode). So now i have only two cars, 130,000 IGC. It felt so good idea back then to restart! I guess i just have to learn not to give a f***   :)

But what happens if / when they revisit damage model again. Especially if they include technical issues to happen when appropriate   Still I'm ok with Dirt Rally keeping it authentic. Grönholm is my hero, and one reason is his verbal magic which was quite plenty in the 307 era. Would be nice to "experience" those moments.
