This is also the reason your car is so prone to catch the death banks on the side of the road in NZ. If you're on a straight and close to the bank you naturally steer towards the middle of the road to avoid it, but you will end up catching the bank with your rear. As soon as you steer away from it the rear will actually move towards it.

I think Dirt Rally 2.0 does use some modified, complex form of a center pivot based car physics model. They may adjust where the center pivot point is in each car and have multiple variables like tires/surface interaction/mass play a role in the yaw rate but I still think it's there. I think using chase cam just makes the usage of a center pivot more obvious. It seems more noticeable with the shorter wheelbase cars and while using chase cam. Several people credit some of the strange asphalt handling symptoms in this game to the usage of a center pivot car rotation model. I always play with cockpit cam in Dirt Rally 2.0 but I still notice it and wish the physics model was changed to something more modern and realistic. Cars sometimes rotate and push sideways in a strange manner that seems unrealistic and unnatural. I'm not asking for change, just for change's sake. If it's not going to be an improvement over DR 2.0 and more realistic then please leave it the way it is (minus asphalt handling, asphalt handling absolutely needs to change). I definitely don't want it to be worse. I could also be wrong about all of this but I am speaking up because I think it can be improved. Like many others, I just want future Codemasters' sim titles (DR 3.0, WRC, etc.) to be even better. Saying all that, it's still my favorite rally game with some of the best controller handling I have ever experienced on any racing game to date.
Yep, when you have high grip surfaces like asphalt the physics model becomes a problem. On loose surfaces it's much less noticeable as the cars usually moves around much more but it can still be felt.
IMO this is indeed what destroys the tarmac experience. You have a rear that rarely stays in a straight line when it should. Gives you the feeling of steering with the rear wheels instead of the front. When you exit a right hand corner and the car straightens out, the rear glides out to the left without losing actual traction. This also translates to the FFB of your wheel which want to counter that little move that shouldnt be there in the first place. All this sums up to the cars feeling disconnected from the road and lazy to drive.
It becomes extremely obvious if you jump staright from DR2 to other rally titles, even something like WRC9. You instantly feel that the car have the correct pivot point and stays straight when it should.

Yep, much more reverb inside the cockpits in DR1 which gave it more punch and rawness. I also miss that.
It's a sound design decision though. I know the sound designer prefer what we have in DR2.

Indeed. You would probably do it even better, right? You seem like a jack of all trades kinda guy.

2 teams working in tandem for Dirt(numbered) and Rally is great. Let's hope they go all in the party game route with D5!

Again just only one start, but this livery is cool in my opinion. 😁

The actual driver, Adielsson, shared this livery in a group on FB yesterday. He loves it 👍

- Much more detailed filtering on leaderboards. Per car class, per car, per nationality etc etc. Look how Raceroom does it.
- Let us set steering rotation in the setup for each car.

I personally think that DR2.0 has been received much better than D4, so perhaps they will just move straight to DR3.0... that said I am sure the decision on subsequent title was made early into the life of DR2.0 so, with that in mind, I am expecting to see D5 as the first CM rally title on the next generation of console.
I wonder if much is happening at CM at the moment, or if all development has ceased due to COVID-19?I'd say Paul was leading the DR2.0 for about half the development at least.
If they go for D5 I hope they go full out off-road party game and leave the more serious business to The Rally series. Hopefully they would use a different team and develop them in tandem.

Maybe it's mentioned, but a recce mode or a way to edit existing notes would be sweet.

This is a quite small thing, but more driver customisation when it comes to helmets, balaclavas, gloves, suit etc.
I just don't dig the driver models. Sorry Jon and generic dude
During DR2 beta testing we had an integral helmet for example..

As we can't be the WRC game of modern times, let's be the inofficial 1997-2006 WRC game, the golden years of the WRC regulations! Flesh those classes out with Hyundai Accents, Octavias, Seat Cordobas, Suzuki SX4(LOL) and Citroen Xsaras.
Let's get ******* TOYOTA onboard now as well, so many classic cars there.
And Volvos. Lots of Volvos.

On 3/30/2020 at 2:32 PM, ianism said:what are you talking about?! the video i posted is of the exact roads DR2 uses, they laser scanned them. the in-game stages are Las Juntas and Valle de los puentes (in that order and direction). it's El Condor in real life of course. WRC 8 stages are imaginary: they took sections of several different Argentina stages and stuck them together, with invented sections too
all the WRC 8 stages are like this. it means they were able to put more landmarks and stuff on the stages, but all the DR2 ones are exact copies of real life roads. so there actually are "such sections" in Dirt. whereas in the WRC series there are not.
you can like the WRC series stages more if you want, but they aren't real.
Absolutely nothing is laser scanned when it comes to DR2 and its stages. They've never done it that way.

2 hours ago, JZStudios said:"Unfortunately, while still acceptable in AC, the more advanced physics engine of ACC put in evidence the limitations of the above solution. Our tyre model started to have issues and downright buggy behaviour under certain conditions over curbs."
Noo... you mean to tell me that after 10 revisions and "Lord Kunos" himself calling anyone who mentioned those limitations and inaccuracies an idiot that should read a book they finally understand they were using really basic **** the rest of the market had moved past?
And now they claim they made entirely new code and tire model. Yeah, I'm pressing X to doubt. This new system seems pretty much the same as what (Granted, I assume) Forza has had for years. It has 3 heating zones on the tire, outer, middle, and inside, so logic would dictate it also has 3 contact points being influenced by those zone temperatures.
I also like this tidbit, which I'm sure they argued against as being realistic;
"As an example, many people see in real life the left inner curb of Eau Rouge being dirty from tyres and think real drivers abuse the curb. They try to do so in ACC and get an instant spin."
Is it though? They've had Ego since the 360 and didn't make a new one for the current gen.
Well, it needs to happen sooner or later, don't you think?

Transistions between tarmac and gravel in Australia or Finland are also much more realistic and satisfying, you really have to mind your angle and throttle because of grip difference.
Also also, the way the tracks were recreated when compared to real life is quite impressive. They were much more diverse as well.
Yes, collisions and audio-visual quality were **** for the most part in SLRE, but I always defend this game as it's really underrated IMO.
There's lots of issues in SLRE, but nobody can say any Dirt game has better tarmac.
What they have managed to do with the old Ego engine to make things feel and behave authentic is pretty darn impressive but there are bad traits that just carries over from game to game that they can't seem to get rid of. It's time for a complete overhaul imo. New engine, new tech. With new consoles coming up this next step is surely taking place.

There are soooo many factors in how a car leaning on a snowbank will end up.
The DR1 snow banks felt softer and would more easily suck you in while the banks in D4/DR2 feels much more rigid. Something in between would probably have been good.
Grip wise i would like a bit more lateral bite but I would also want less longitudal grip. It's a very special feeling using these studded tires on snow and ice. The lateral grip can under the right circumstances be better than general gravel, but not longitudal. Also depends on what the surface is, thin snow base without ice or a more icy base. Lots of factors as well.
My biggest issue with Sweden though is the way too bumpy roads that kills all the flow these stages have IRL.

2 per year?
First day is without pay here, then you get 80% of your daily salary for 14 days, after that health insurance kicks in.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games
in DiRT Rally 2.0

Yeah, doubt they will go go into detail about it, but hopefully he/she will have a look at the conversation about it.
