If they did try to drive it like the modern cars there would be endless understeer.tbtstt said:
Yeah, you can see the McRae influence on the handling of the early Impreza WRCars: absolutely zero understeer!bogani said:

I really love how they had to man handle these older cars. The modern stuff is more point and squirt.

Compare it to the more recent WRCars and there is a world of difference!
I really love how they drove those. Fantastic! -
Yes, that's a great video. Also pretty frustrating as D4 rear end issues prevents us from doing exactly that.Porkhammer said:And to awaken the gossip thread from its slumber, here's a lovely onboard I found:

Something in between Dirt Rally and D4 would probably feel the best.

RallyDriven said:My brother was speaking to one of his friends a few weeks back who recently got a fiesta R5, and he literally said that it was so easy to drive because it was so grippy and responsive. The challenge with them is driving them fast and getting every second out of them
Yeah, the R5's feel a bit underpowered with the amount of grip they actually have. Still blazingly fast out on the stages obviously. -
If they simulate tire temps there should be tire pressure as well. I'm truly doubting tire temps are a thing in D4.RyuMakkuro said:
Definitely tire temperatures. 100%. First lap is basically the tires warming up, which is why every single time you go into the Joker on Lydden on the start you'll be sliding all over the place, 2nd lap, nice and smooth.Sho846 said:Anyone facing a weird issue with Loheac RX circuit?
The first two turns at the start, I start to slide way too much and even go into half spins every time. But when I attack those corners pretty much the same and sometimes even more aggressively in the following laps, the cars handles fine.
Happened with the DS3 and Focus so far. Haven't tried others yet.
Whether that is implemented in rally is a completely different story though. I don't feel much difference in Spain, if any at all. But I can easily tell on every RX circuit with every RX car that the tires definitely warm up. They got the data from Cooper Tires after all, so it stands to reason that the simulation of those should be much more advanced, so naturally tire temperature is a must (Gran Turismo 4 had it ffs).
As said I've had the first corner in hell literally behaving like ice. No grip what so ever. If that would be due to cold tires it would happen frequently. I only had it once or twice over 20-30 heats. -
I don't think they are simulating tire temps, but only Paul can answer that.Porkhammer said:
I think they have implemented tyre temperatures, because I noticed in last (or the one before that) week's weekly in Spain that my Metro was a bit skittish, but the further I got along the stage, the more grip I had, and could attack harder! I asked Paul if this was the case, but didn't get an answer.Sho846 said:Anyone facing a weird issue with Loheac RX circuit?

Yes Sho I had the ice bug in RX a few times, but this was mostly in pre release testing. Sometimes it was only the first corner in Hell on the first lap. I also had it in Montalegre.
If it would be tire temps it would happen frequently. -
As long as the inaccuracies aren't as big as in SLRE I'm happy.RyuMakkuro said:
The whole front of the Focus '01 is slightly... skewed. In other words inaccuracies in the 3D models and their textures. There are a lot of similar issues in DR as well and probably older DiRT titles as well, along with other games, just that... most don't notice them and fixing them would often require extra resources spent and what not. Expenses for things only few people notice and are bothered with are things that the accountants don't care.badaboum528 said:I might be a weirdo for noticing that but the braking light of the Escort RS Cosworth isn't the same as the one in real life. It's the same for the Focus RS 2007. Do any of you know why this is like that?
On that note, I remember that NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 had quite inaccurate rear of the Porsche Carrera GT.

Well deserved. Everybody should unplug now and then. It's good for you.KickUp said:Hi all, just so you know I am about to go on holiday for a week. I'm planning to be away from forums and twitter so that I can unplug for a bit and spend time with my family, so apologies if I'm not responding to stuff. See you all soon.
Have a nice holiday! -
Ah, nice. I never had that, only Nicky telling me there is one. Good to know it's there.WhiteWagon said:
Here @bogani, I will confirm for you that there is a very noticable loss of power and a distinct misfire soundbogani said:Quite often you get noise from the gearbox and Nicky saying there is a problem. Anyone ever had an actual problem following that, like missing a gear/gear stuck?
Same thing when Nicky claims misfire. I never feel any power loss and then engine sound itself never sounds like it misfires.
This is my mk2 Escort run. The torque turns to jello when you get a misfire.
https://youtu.be/Wfdjs3d-z6I
It also happened to me on Stage 3 of the Hyundai event.
And even though I had only driven the Hyundai 2 stages previously,, when the misfire occured, the. loss was immediately obvious -
So, @KickUp, is this just a neat detail without any real consequence?bogani said:Quite often you get noise from the gearbox and Nicky saying there is a problem. Anyone ever had an actual problem following that, like missing a gear/gear stuck?

Yup, miss the crisp gravel clatter from DR. The surface audio feedback inside the car was better in DR.dgeesi0 said:@kickup i put in the other thread not sure if you would read that so will add here are you looking into handling issues ? will anything be tweaked ?
some cars backend wont come round cant be donuted and wont slide.regardless of set up.also on wales can the gravel sound be tweaked so louder when hitting car and when sliding is fixed under neath the car. -
Overall I think the pacenotes work better than I anticipated but there are some of them that are off yes. Might be when you are carrying speed of a straight tile and the next tile is a hairpin? The system might be troublesome when it comes from one tile to another.thecraicbear said:Apologies if this has already been mentioned, @KickUp, but I noticed some issues with the delivery of pacenotes, specifically for hairpins.
When testing on several different notches towards the earliest side of the delivery speed, I find myself overshooting junctions and diving into bushes due to late calls on the more technical corners (coming off a fast section), and they seem to be out of sync with the delivery speed of the rest of the notes.
I understand that pacenotes have been done differently this year, so thought it was worth mentioning, in case anything can be tweaked.
I mean, if you wanted to, you could get back into the sim seat and record pacenotes just for me :] :] :]
Don't do it for anybody else though, I want to feel special. -
Show off!RallyDriven said:I'm loving this game so much! I can jump from playing sim on my wheel to gamer on my controller to play with my friends so easy! Although I beat them all by 10 seconds despite doing a joker on every lap! -
Yup that would be me. It'll be changed in a future patch.JZStudios said:
Wasn't this something someone mentioned a few months with the early press footage of the tuning menu?Rygar86 said:bogani said:
Toe-in at the front gives stability. If you want better turn in you use toe-out. The description in the tuning menu is wrong at the moment. They are aware of that :)Areyouben said:A very effective way against understeer is the toe alignment on the rear. If you put some toe-out on the rear, the rear tires will effectively point towards the outside which makes the rear a looooot looser under load. For example, if you turn left the weight will move to the right. A lot of weight gets on the rear right tire and as that tire is pointing outward it will push the entire rear of the car to the right, creating oversteer.
you can do the same on the front but inverted, using some more toe-in to have the tires point inward creating more bite on turn in. Too much of either toe-out/in will create some instability though, so don't go too far. Just a single click or 2 will do a lot.
Oh so thats the infamous incorrect tuning description? I though that was only in Dirt Rally.
Wasn't it just as simple as changing some text for it to be fixed for Dirt 4?
Also, I'm surprised that no ones asked for Larsens Biscuits or Peniston Oils for sponsors.

Are you saying you can't do scandinavian flicks in D4? You don't even own the game yet, right?MaXyMsrpl said:Scandinavian pack means nothing without scandinavian flick ;) -
Pretty interesting that you can save setups for tarmac, gravel, snow and mixed.
Probably means nothing, but driving around the mixed surface area in Dirtfish, I think D4 could do a great job with a mixed gravel/tarmac rally.
Or maybe it's Monte Carlo on the horizon? ;) -
Driving they Hyundai R5 around Dirtfish, I can't ask anything more physics wise. It'spretty much everything I could ever want. It's not understeering allover the place. It feels perfectly balanced. The core physics is absolutely awesome.
One thing I don't really care for is the insta spins if you're wheel of the road. It's like you are on slivks and touch the grass. -
They Hyundai is awesome! -
Impressive pace by Hänninen so far! -

Looking forward to a lengtier rundown from you :)I feel the core physics improved lots. There are some niggles though.
Billy at ISR sums up my thoughts perfectly so far. I think his rundown of things are pretty much spot on.

The wild life is a cool thing that adds imersion, Im glad they kept it in from Dirt Rally and expanded on it. I hope there are more types of animals to come too, like Kangaroos in Australia and maybe some badgers in Wales?WhiteWagon said:

Pretty sure there are deer in Spain too. Haven't seen one, but there are road-signs with jumping deer on them.
Sweden has Yetti's don't they? :D
No, you are thinking of drunk Norwegians.:#
