I find the Evo extremely prone to understeer, no matter how I set it up. Once you get a nice slide going the back end regains grip and straightens the car.WhiteWagon said:The Evo VI is a little beast. Feels instantly fast out of the box, and sounds great too. Even the R4 Evo felt more alert and agile than in DR.
Conversely, I felt the 95 Impreza handled like a bag of ****. Needs some set-up work for sure. Felt like there were two bodies in the trunk. -

There is a big difference between assisted sim mode and gamer. You can brake later, turn in later, carry more speed through corners in gamer. A quick person in gamer should be faster, no doubt.dgeesi0 said:
the thing is if you pushing as fast as you can go you will be faster if you can drive well in sim mode.maybe with having a few of the things off actually made him slower due to the handling is harder.so arcade suited him.Rygar86 said:DiRT 4 - Simulation VS Gamer Handling (Australia) w/Thrustmaster Wheel Cam
Big difference in stage times between Sim and Gamer mode!

i did a track with just a couple of added things in sim mode and i was about 3 seconds slower.so all of sim mode . -
Dirtfish contains mostly tarmac plus what I would assume tarmac with some loose gravel over it. There is also a section with more gravel, but I guess it's a different type of gravel to what's on the actual stages.TuliRally said:
I would also like to know is there differences and what under the hood, and do rally cars also use same Cooper tire model & info that is used in RX or something else.FloatingGrass said:I don't understand why the RX physics aren't the same as the rally physics.
Wrote this on another thread also, but i'm just curious about this.
Game itself will be great anyway, but to me there is just something wonderful to know how things work and why. That's why the curiosity. (Especially when people are praising RX, and you would think the handling be the same with Rally (gravel & tarmac in both), but those are quite different cars though...)
Edit: now just read about Dirtfish areaa gravel feeling different. Interesting
Umm.. anybody that has the game. Was there a way to make your own "stages" to Dirtfish area, or is my memory pulling tricks on me again.? Some timed events or similar
It's great fun throwing the cars around in Dirtfish, I can do that all day long :) -
It's not the physics itself, it's the grip level on the gravel stages. That's the only thing it can be really. In the Dirt Fish area it's mostly gravel covered pavement and a different kind of gravel to what's on the stages.Sho846 said:That's really odd, if the physics in dirtfish and the actual gravel stages are acting differently.
I haven't played the game yet, so I can't say much, but if that is indeed the case then please fix it soon. -
There is nothing wrong with the core physics at all. When playing around with the BMW M3 in the Dirt Fish area it becomes quite evident that it's the gravel surface of the rally stages that needs tweaking somehow. The RWD physics is truly fucking brilliant in D4 under the hood!

I love my T500. Great choice :)SergeyTokarev said:Just bought a second hand T500 RS, mint condition, cost me the same as I would spent for new T150 (~300$, local wheel prices are crazy, 'sigh').
Damn, this thing is massive. Definitely need some time to adjust. -
MaXyMsrpl said:It has been already stated that problem lays in licencing agreements. Why do you mess up with some nonexisting conflict between gamers and simracers? We have to play modes to cover diferent expectations
And you totally flipped that conversation about damage and licensing to insinuate the manufacturers are also demanding that the car handlin can't be too realistic. No matter what anyone tells you will make you happy, you just keep on ranting about stuff. If something you rant about gets an explanation you just switch rant subject.
Just wait a few days til the game is out, give it a go, then you can tell everybody what's wrong. Again.

Nice placing yourself on a high horse being a "simracer" for 20 years.MaXyMsrpl said:Because I'm simracer for almost 20 years; yes: I would chose proper physics simulation over real manufacturer name on the car label.
What is the point of driving Subaru if it doesn't behave like its equivalent from real life? None - it's not the Subaru anymore.
This discussion was about the damage model being crippled by manufacturer demands, so why do you start talking about the physics simulation all of a sudden? Did Paul say that manufacturers demand "MOAR GRIP!"? -
MaXyMsrpl said:dgeesi0 said:watch my video at the end with the escort mk2.i thought that crash was brilliant :D
Than it's sad that gaming industry is going to be slave of industries even if realistic representation should be main goal to both sides. This way you cannot create rally game. It's para-rallying. Who wants to be a part of para-rallying?KickUp said:
It's because of manufacturer demands.MaXyMsrpl said:
And that's why 15 years old games (ie all gModor based ones) can show more deformation than than D4?SamRWD said:The ONLY grip (;)) I have with crashes is damage other than visual. I hope on hardest level, the one you have to unlock, crashes will be less forgiving. I saw people hit trees with a front of the car pretty hard, they were able to finish the stage with no problems. Also body deformation is really hard to do, would rather have other aspect of D4 refined. For me they are more than good enough. Maybe RX guys would like more due to the nature of RX races.
D4 cars are prone to brake apart rather then deformate. But if there is no enough energy, then damage is barely visible (for example after roll).
Even D:R has more deformation than D4 shown on recent videos. Moreover deformation in D:R could be extended by using community mod. It proves that better deformation is in place, ready to use. But for some reasons suppressed by developers. And please don't say it's because of manufacturers demands.
I agree our damage systems could be improved but it is all confined by the demands of the licensing agreements. I'd argue cars take more damage in DiRT than they do in many other current licensed racing titles but every time we release a game the manufacturers get stricter about damage not more lenient.
At the end, it's matter of signing proper agreement. Otherwise product which would be the simulation, looks like a toy :(
But would you rather have fictional cars with full damage? I wouldn't.And I don't think manufacturers gives a rats arse about getting their cars properly damaged when signing an agreement.

All videos are with them enabled and you didn't answered that question earlier (at least not that I know of).
Yeeeeeeeeeeees. -
There are very few games that handle crash physics and damage to the extent you're looking for. But still, there are footage were crashes looks extremely convincing. Remember the Opel Adam crash in Sweden filmed from helicopter?MaXyMsrpl said:
The more I'm watching D4 footage the less simulation it seems to be in my eyes. This video shows nothing but unrealistic handling of damage including physics (in regard to absorbing collision energy) as well as visuals (barrelly visible body deformations, loosing parts etc even after hard crash/rollark13700 said:Found a decent crash montageeeeeeeeeeeee

Maybe I'm naive, but still hoping such videos are recorded in an arcade mode -

Yes it was.RyuMakkuro said:
It was? That's news to me.ShodanCat said:I know this was added late in Dirt Rally's development -
Indeed. That was Colins' prime, when the cars had to be man handeled. When the technology started to allow the cars to be driven fairly straight forward even on gravel, that's when he started to be outpaced.SamRWD said:Older cars should be harder to turn into corners. For example Group A had to be thrown around a lot, not to mention Gr. B. -
There should be a separate slider for. I want MOAR! ;)KevM said:The gearbox whine is sexy though, so they cancel each other out! lol -
Hey,WeamDreaver said:That's what I am saying. As soon as the car goes sideway, it loses all the momentum.
This was present in DR and judging by the videos is still present in D4.
Maybe someone with enough skill can make a test in the Dirtfish area.
Drive at let's say 100 mph and
- brake with ABS
- brake manually (Threshold braking)
- brake with handbrake and throw the car sideways
I suspect the third option will result in the shortest deceleration distance, which it shouldn't.
Included with ABS, no ABS, handbrake only and general playing around. Default setup
Obviously I should have started braking at the same point, but I have no time right now to do it again, but you get the general idea..

Realistic isn't black or white though. With that argument nothing is ever realistic as thing get patched, endless new tire models come out(looking at you AC) etc etc. Improvements can and will always be made to products that still deem themself as realistic. You can still call something realistic without being perfect.SamRWD said:
What's ironic about that? Let's say you make a rally game, but you make a mistake and you make cars go reverse instead of forward. Then you try to fix it, but this time cars move sideways. It is different from before, but it is still not correct. We had a huge topic going on in the past where we were discussing DR physics. Ironically some people said it was realistic. Now same people say Dirt 4 is realistic. That means since Dirt 4 is an IMPROVEMENT, DR was indeed not realistic and they were wrong since the beginning. Ironically ;)Evilsmurf said:Ironically, some said the physics in DR were wrong, and now Codemasters have gone and corrected it for D4, some people still say it's wrong!? :D

I'd just like to re-iterate this, as I can appreciate it might be not very clear at the moment! Everyone on the forums with early access to the game has been under NDA with what they've seen previously, and they're essentially testing the patched version for us. It's Steam only testing at the moment too - so please spare a thought for our community testers who play on console! ;) I know it's super frustrating for those of you who want a hands on, but got to do this stuff by the book.human1101 said:how come so many are getting early access to the game?
do you know what time of the day it will unlock on steam?
Guessing it will be midnight between 8th and 9th. -
