    Back on topic...

I know it's already been stated here somewhere probably, but I hadn't noticed before that the Steam page explicitly states the inclusion of the 'Audi Sport quattro S1 E2'
    Wait S1E2? Isn't it just E2? What's next? they're going to reveal the 22B?

or maybe it's a little inside joke?

Now I'm waiting for a kebabpizza refrence.
I was pondering this last night: I joked about the "S1 E2" error when the initial press release came out, but it didn't occur to me that, if hillclimb isn't returning, that must mean the E2 will be the Audi in the Group B class? Perhaps @KickUp can confirm if that's correct?

Going to miss the S1 if that's the case (I personally think it's a better looking car), but everyone does love the E2 aero...

One of the Group B cars was said to be getting an "overhaul".

    @KickUp

Will we be able to take any car for a spin round the Dirtfish Rally School?

I think I took the Fiesta RX round there back in November, but just wondering if that was meant to happen or not?
I don't think it will be any car but it will be as many as we can as it is seperate from the career.
    *separate.
    A**hole
KickUp won this fight with 17-13 LOLs.

I thought about that last night.  With DiRT Rally, you could really spend time refining a setup to near-perfection for a specific rally stage.

How are setups going to work for 'Your Stage'?
Do you need Long gears, Short gears?  Soft front-end?  Tight Diffs?  More suspension travel?  How would you know?
Could you do a pre-stage recce run over with a CREST animation or the like?
It gives you a map layout of the route before you run it, you set your parameters and click Generate Stage, we will hopefully get shakedowns?
What would be really cool is if they gave us a true recce option with a 60km/h speed limit. Let's say Racedepartmen arranges a rally. They generate 9 stages(some re runs as in true WRC) that will be used for a rally. The week before the rally they create the same event but with the "recce" option enabled that limits you to one pass through each stage at the limited speed.

    @KickUp

    - There will be any " unique Pace Notes"? Like ex: Co-Driver yelling at us when we crash, or congratulating us when we beat a Stage Time... That kind of stuff. If yes, please make sure they will only play once in awhile, or they won't be "unique" anymore.

If such comments exist, I would like to reiterate my point of the pace-notes taking priority over reaction - there's no point in the co-driver being more 'alive' and 'present' if it means he skips pacenotes.

And while we're still on this topic, I +10,000 that earlier comment about having Samir's codriver as an option.
It's bound to happen at some point, now that I've plus-over-9,000'd it...
    They will never take priority.

Samir's co driver is not going to happen. The original video was edited with malicious intent from a 40 minute video that Samir had originally posted. His Co Driver, Vivek Ponnusamy lost a major contract as a result of the video and I believe they sued the YouTuber who edited the video.

The likelyhood of him being willing to come in and record something that has damaged his career is slim to none. If we were to get an actor in to 'simulate' it we would open ourselves up to a lawsuit.

Yikes. That's a sad story. I had no idea :/

  5. @KickUp will the slow shifting for sequential cars be improved in D4? The "feature" makes sense on cars with H-patterned gearbox and clutch; to prove a point that this is the fastest and most realistic way to shift to get the most out of the car, giving paddleshifters a small disadvantage - but it makes absolutely zero sense on cars fitted with actual sequential gearboxes. The main offenders in Dirt Rally being the Polo, the kitcars, and the Citroën C4.

The sequential shifting on these vehicles are near instantaneous in reality, so I feel that this should be the case in-game as well.
Agreed. And H-pattern dogboxes should work without the auto clutch delay. Dogboxes shift really fast as well.

One cool feature could be that you can shift with or without clutch when using dogbox, but wear and tear would force you to renovate/repair more often without clutch.

And I don't think you should be at a disadvantage for not using h-shifter/clutch. Not everyone own an h-shifter.

@KickUp  what class will that white 205 in the of screen gameplay videos be in?
Our class system has changed a bit so it is in a H2 Historic FWD class

Not going to lie, I find this change very intriguing... Look forward to hearing more.
Without going into too much detail we've divided the classes into performance rather than their decade. It means for example that the Stratos and Alpine get put up against more powerful stuff.

Nice to hear; never made sense to me to have the Alpine in a class with the Mini and Fulvia, this sounds like addressing one of my minor issues with DR, so thanks.

I also hope they won't go overboard with the retired vehichles on the side of the road. Like 4 every stage ;)
    This.
Don't worry. We'll be measured in our approach to these things. Obviously we wanted to show it off in the demo but when it comes to the real thing they should be less frequent.
That said I once did a stage on the Malcolm Wilson Rally where there were around 6 retired cars in various states and positions.

I've been at a corner of the Trackrod which has claimed five in one go and a small stretch of Aberhirnant that took out four. Despite this, glad to hear this won't be an overly frequent sight, would feel a bit gimmicky. Will the chances of seeing cars off be affected by running order?

Yeah many local rallies have a few places where the organizer note is a bit off or on events without notes the trees might mislead the road behind the crest. Usually there is a massive gathering of spectators that are aware that cars will go off the road at this particular place. Here we call those people "plåtgamar" - "sheet metal vultures".

Dirtfish area seems nice on Google Maps for testing:

Some nice clips which give a good impression.

Its all about the big slides!!

@KickUp would increasing/multiplying just the overall horizontal g-force values not spice the handling up a bit in a desirable way?  Shouldn't affect the current weight or aero values at all, but you could overcome the max tyre corner grip a lot more with power/ braking inputs.  Driving Balance and weight shift would be more important and simulation of the tyres x/y grip limits would be more life-like?

In the replay videos, buggy or Rally, the players/drivers can stomp on the brakes into a hairpin while turning in & it all just happens.
If the horizontal g force was larger, turn in would be virtually non-existent until braking/g is decreased, which would then settle the weight & let the car turn in.  Corner g force would then start to increase marginally as the car leans & jumping on the power would cause increasing corner g while tyre grip would be maxed accelerating the car forward, & big awd power slide/under/oversteer (driven wheels dependent) in the direction of the g force as lateral tyre grip would be overcome

A shitload of understeer in those videos if you ask me ;)

  8. Regarding setup, I would love a more realistic approach with real numbers.

A slider system is fine as it would mimic you asking your engineer for certain characteristics, but once you get in to the advanced part I would love real values.

For example, instead of 20 clicks of rollbar stiffness, give us 3-5 rollbar options and an option to disconnect it completely.

Same for the gearbox/diff final drive. The different ratios on the diff. One long, one medium and one short.

In "fearless" setup tweaks should also cost time, not just repairs.

I love the RWD handling in DR. It's the most convincing one ever to be featured in a game on loose surfaces.

There is one thing I miss though. The ability to hold on to the long sweeping powerslides with full opposite lock. It feels like you don't have enough steering lock to hold on to it so you either have to straighten out or accept a spin.

Maybe the new suspension model will do wonders. Maybe not :) @KickUp

I feel this is to do with the force feedback personally, these cars never had a large opposite lock compared to something like a drift car anyway. All about that throttle control :)
Yeah, obviously I don't want ridiculous amounts of lock and I agree that FFB feels like a limiting factor on many occasions.

Ooh another question popped into my mind just now. Will it be possible to spectate live during online rally's and rallycross? You see live broadcasts with championship races in rFactor 2 and iRacing, but it wasn't really possible to do any live coverage in DiRT Rally. I did a short DiRT Rally championship with a league that usually does rFactor 2 with live coverage, and they covered a single round using replay footage. It's in Dutch, but it shows how cool this could be for leagues if it was possible to do live.

Also wonders if there will be replays in RX multiplayer but not too optimistic as they didn't switch engine.

Spectating live heats would also be awesome :)
