DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

As I said, this isn't new. Remember DiRT Showdown and Grid 2? It's still a mistery to me why they thought a demolition derby game with the DiRT IP would sell, and while Grid 2 was a very good game IMO, it was obviously not what the players wanted. That's really annoying because we got Autosport a year later and, while it's a good game, it's the opposite of what the first Grid was.

Codemasters is the publisher. Koch Media just releases the games in other regions.

Codemasters' marketting team is terrible, but that's not new.

Doesn't the RGT sound virtually identical to a regular GT3 RS?

That wasn't possible in DiRT Rally due to engine limitations IIRC.

Michigan in DiRT 3 was mixed surface with asphalt and gravel IIRC.

Aren't Volkswagen replacing the Skoda R5 with the new Polo R5?

Need for Speed's livery editor is pretty good because you can put vinyls on the windows.

Customers are going that way because there hasn't been an actual arcade racer in years. Horizon came out with it's "simcade" physics and everything after thats tried to copy it. A lot of people want arcade racers, but instead companies keep making these **** half baked "The physics suck, so we'll call it arcade" games. I wonder how well a new Burnout would sell, provided it was actually well made and not just a **** cash grab by EA. I think they're working on a new Burnout. I don't know if it could match Takedown, Revenge or Paradise, because those games have set the bar very high. But it probably won't be announced until the next E3, anyway. If they're working on it and they actually release it soon, it could compete with Dangerous Driving, it would be interesting to see which one will be the better game between the huge budget sequel made by a new team or the  indie spiritual successor made by Criterion's founders' new studio.

Not surprising, nobody wanted to play that.

Yeah, I'm the same. I know some people enjoyed it, but I found constantly having to renew contracts and sponsors every few races quite irritating.  I'm not up on it, but why would you as a driver have to constantly make licensing deals and contracts all the time? Aren't their managers for that sort of thing? The idea is that you're your own team director. It's not really important, but it gave you something to work towards other than just buying more and more cars. Yeah, I can understand the intention, I would have just preferred if you could pick your team and sponsors and have them on an indefinite contract. So if you want to keep looking for better staff/sponsors you can, but if you just want to sort a team and then carry on racing you haven't got to keep going back and picking the same engineers again and changing sponsors.  Well, renewing contracts definitely isn't the funniest thing to do. They could remove that entirely.

Personally I'd like to see team management come back. And we should be able to select any co-driver and spotter, no matter the game's language, like in DiRT 4.

Nice to see the localisations will have true co-drivers as well (well, at least some). They'll finally stop translating "crest" as "crête". :D

R2 class is a lot more popular than R3. Also no such thing as BRZ R3 exists because the Toyota GT86 CS-R3 is the only car classified to R3 class from the FR-S/BRZ/GT86 lineup and we all know how the relationship between Toyota and Codemasters is. It's not just Codemasters, Toyota doesn't want to see their cars in racing games anymore. They just make an exception for Gran Turismo because Polyphony Digital is Japanese.

I don't think this has anything to do with legal issues. Codemasters always takes liberties with the roads' surroundings. For example Spa-Francorchamps never looks like the real thing.

It depends on whether the publisher wants it or not, that's all.

Nope, looks like it won't, and so won't Riga :( THE OFFICIAL GAME OF THE FIA WORLD RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP – Race at Barcelona, Montalegre, Mettet, Lohéac Bretagne, Trois-Rivieres, Hell, Holjes and Silverstone in a multitude of different series. Riga could be added later. They've confirmed DLC this time.

I'm not sure, but I think that's actually how Your Stage works. There's a premade map with hills and forests and it makes a road through it using preset tiles that get adapted to the terrain.

DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

I really don't like the way most people here hate Your Stage and think it should never come back just because it wasn't perfect in DiRT 4. It's a very powerful tool that can give endless replayability to the game. I could see it come back, better than before, and coupled with a few hand-crafted stages.

If the press got their hands on the game today, there probably won't be an announcement before Monday, as they need time to write about the game.
