DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

To those who have played and are familiar with RBR NGP, how similar are the handling models to each other? -

By road display, do you mean information about the stage or a minimap? (p.s. don't judge this question if it's undeniably stupid) -

Quiick question: Those hinkelfences on the side of the road in the gameplay video look like an attempt at visible invisible walls. Are those just in place for the pre alpha for some reason, or will we be able to careen into the countryside and into tree canopies in the full version? -

I'm the absolute biggest Latvala fanboy in the world, and it hurts me to even think about that. Honestly, I've considered that before, thinking that maybe 2013/2014 were his last years in which he had a shot at the title and he blew it, but I try really really hard to make myself believe he still has a chance. His last two years were abysmal as he dropped out of the championship race in the first four rallies of the year, and even though that took away valuable time in his career, I feel that if he can get his head under control and try to be just a little more consistent, he could be a championship contender next year with the upgraded Yaris, if not this year. Looking back at the ages of championship winners, Loeb was 30 when he won his first championship in 2004, Ogier was 29 and Gronholm 31, like Makinen. Latvala is 31, so I think he's about ready to win a championship, and he's got some years in him still. -

Yay! (?) I'm glad to see him with the chance to develop and tune a car to his liking with a probably stable contract but, seeing as the Yaris will likely be an underachiever, I'm worried for his mental strength. If the Yaris turns out to be uncompetitive, he might suffer from not being able to get good results and his bad runs could continue. Go Sisu! -

This is what I was worried about. However, on tarmac, it might make a difference. Then again, Ogier thought it was pretty shit on tarmac, so... -

Hey, back after like a year or so. Personally, I'm a bit worried about how the cars are not only going to affect driving styles, but how regular, common brushes with the ground, trees, etc., in removing some front aero elements like wings and those killer sideburns ont he i20, are going to affect handling. Will sideways drivers start going in straight lines to take advantage of the downforce? Will clean drivers pull far ahead of the looser drivers like Paddon or Latvala? Will the loss of front raked wings and stuff after jumps or bumps cause cars to become way harder to drive? For instance, in Finland, not having a front aero element to counter the rear wing would be catastrophic at worst. -

I have a 2004 DVD back when Hirvonen was a young, crashy Finn. -

I began to grin like an idiot when I saw Breen crying tears of joy at the end. I love that guy! -

Latvala's only way of winning now is if Meeke runs into trouble, and with the cautious attitude both of them will probably take I don't see this being likely. I'm hyped for the battle for fifth and I'd like to see if Paddon can pull off another amazing drive; I'm also keen to see if Ostberg can pick up his pace which has been really low in the past rallies. As for Breen and Tanak, I love them both, and I can't decide who I want to be on the podium. I'd like Breen on his maiden podium for how much he adores rallying and how much fun and passion he has, but I also want Tanak to get it. He really deserves it more than anybody else. -

I actually meant Latvala. His title shot looks over prematurely again, unfortunately, but he can still shoot for runner up. Mikkelsen on the other hand should really push hard to reduce his gap to Ogier, who's down the standings. -

Rally Finland this year has me on the edge of my seat! Mikkelsen and Tanak look to be pushing really hard, while Latvala seems to be having a hard time catching up to Meeke. I so dearly hope he wins again this year! -

Honestly, I see where Ogier complains and he has a valid point, but to the spectator, I think its far more interesting when there are five different winners in five rallies than one winner for ten. However, I have noted that for those drivers that run second, third and fourth, the road sweeping is still a handicap. Maybe that's why Ogier pulls away in the championship so frequently. -

Thierry has a difficult time at the moment. Mentally it's very hard for him. If he's quick it's either him or the car that 'malfunctions'. He hasn't made that much mistakes if I recall correctly. He's had quite a few technical issues though, like in Argentina, which doesn't help him mentally and that shows in his stage times. Dropping him to the second team might be another punch in the guts. It's not really a step down because he has the same car but it suggests that Hyundai doesn't have all that much faith in him which might hit him really hard. In other news: François Duval runs the Rallye de Wallonie in Belgium with a DS3 R5. He had about 30 sec. on Freddy Loix after the penultimate stage of the second leg but crashed out of the rally on today's final stage. He's still very quick but there must be some kind of spell on him whenever he drives a Citroën rally car. Ah Duval, rallying fluke and tounge-fencing legend. -

Hunger for glory turned to lust. Also, I really really hate when Ogier complains about starting first and then goes on to win gravel events like a motherf***er. If he can deal with it he can go shut up. Oh, it's unfair that he can't go faster than he already does is his argument. -

I think Latvala or Mikkelsen have more chances than Meeke. He's like JML back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, quick and crashy. Mikkelsen has to improve still, but he can get there. Paddon could perhaps be the only challenger left this year, and maybe next year Latvala's luck will get better. Ostberg relies on mistakes to get ahead, because he's too consistent, I feel. Also, Camilli. Malcom Wilson, what were you thinking? -

I couldn't agree more. If the weaker drivers recieve disadvantages, it just widens the gap between them and the frontrunners. Besides, if the frontrunners, are good, they might as well cope with road sweeping. In fact, I think that the order should be for all three days. I don't see the reason behind flipping the order around on the last day. -

It happens to me in every rally LOL. I see the coverage and say oh, imagine that in DiRT Rally, even bad rallys like mexico. But just imagine it! The rockyness of Greece with double rock faces on both sides, fast, flowing, open sections like Wales and Finland but sprinkled with unmarked rocks, ruts and dips, and a slippery dirt surface. Sure would make for a unique challenge, especially if it were to combine both the flowing bits and the twisty bits into one stage short enough for the Ego engine. In other news, how many of you think Latvala still has an open title challenge? As much as I love him, I'm afraid his title hopes are all but gone, once again prematurely. I think Jari Matti hopes are gone IMO, he is too far from Seb, the unique title contender could be Hayden like Thierry in 2013, could fight to him but at the end Ogier will be the champ. BTW, is there any fan of WRC that is a fan of Ogier? I hate so much Ogier every stage end he is crying, oohh i hate this road position, if he have a good position like today, ohhh i had 2 days in bad road position. Think in Tanak Ogier, poor him he drives a Fiesta which is miles from the polo and with the DMacks which are really bad in comparison to the michelins, despite this rally he had some good results, but when he finish the stages he smile and say it is everything perfect. Oh how I detest him. le whine i sweep roads le cri today best not win -
