    JZStudios uses Surprise Politics!

    It's super effective!

    (in derailing the thread)
Haha, wow. Guess I should've figured that no ones seen that movie... as AWESOME as it is. You guys kind of suck.
If you want to get STAIGHT to the quote, go to 1:20.

Ahh makes more sense now. Never seen that movie, but recognize that it was parodied in the Post-Credit Scene of Deadpool...   it's something :)
Look at me, I'm Mary Poppins Y'all !
I've said it before and I'll say it again, old movies are better. Surprised at how many know AIPLANE! but not Ferris Bueller.
It's on my Netflix watch list! Need to see it.
We need to create a list of movies like that.
I've liked that from the few minutes I seen it.

My HDD failed today, or shall I say don't mess with diskpart if you aren't sober. Selected wrong disk, wrong partition and wrong command, without hesitation pressed enter because some moron in Microsoft thought it's okay to make changes to HDD without a confirmation.
testdisk did it's job but i've lost the MBR part of disk. BIOS won't detect it even though it's mountable in Debian and it installed the system without a single problem.

Have to format it so I've finally got a reason to upgrade to SSD. Gonna take 2x125GB tomorrow to finally separate my Unix and Win system + data on two 1TB HDDs.

Uh, that was a hell boring/stressful friday evening.

/E: If that wouldn't be enough the reinstall and diskpart was caused by 2 BSODs and 2 F13 cause of completely stucked at D4. Not sure if my GPU isn't faling as well, but there wasn't anything prompting that way in Debian.... when it was still installed.
I've also had 4 fails of Nvidia drivers in past 3 days. Never happened to me. Gonna buy some thermal paste and clean my graphic card as well tomorrow. Hell, it will be torn apart, why not make a general cleanup.

Sorry for missing "n", i don't have that key in my old laptop :D

     Kung Pow: Enter the Fist.

    Weoooooooooo!

It's so dumb, but I love it.

Also, recommending another Mel Brooks film: Dracula: Dead and Loving It. It's spectacular and has Leslie Nielsen. What else could you want?

  2. Meeke doesn't deserve his drive anymore. I'm sorry: he's quick and likeable, but you just can't crash eight times in seven rallies. He needs to go.

As for happy things, LAPPI! He's so damn cool. "Tell Tommi that 5 gears is enough!".

Latvala seems in a great position to attack tomorrow, with a great battle with Neuville looking likely.

Also quite surprised by Ogier's lack of pace and Hanninen's actual pace. Special rally

Also @KickUp can staff be upgraded after prolonged renewing of contracts or are the eternally stuck at whatever grade they're at or a,b,c,d,e?
They have emerging traits that changes some of their skills. Positively or Negatively. You can also add perks.
Ok, but will the end result ever be higher then that of a staff member that started out at a higher rating?
Possibly but it is by no means a certainty
Whoever LOL'ed this post, do you think it means lots of love by any chance?

I'm thinking a lot of the comments will be from people who are used to DR thinking there's too much grip by comparison.
    ...
Maybe opinions will change when everyone's had a while to get used to the game.
That's my feeling as well. It's going to feel different from Dirt Rally because it's different from Dirt Rally ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it's better and most people who have played it think it's an improvement (like Porkhammer and dgeesi0). Doesn't mean everyone will love it because you can't please everyone :D

(also, preconceptions play a part, e.g. this isn't what I expected it to be, therefore it's not as good)

All I know is, in DR I basically actively avoid Germany, Pikes Peak, and Sweden. I mainly suck at Sweden, but I couldn't ever get the hang of Germany or PP, the physics just didn't match what the wheel was throwing out.
So if I don't avoid Tarmac like the plague then it's an improvement.
When Sweden had just come out I hated it for the snowbanks, but lamented the fact I couldn't enjoy it because the stages were so fun.

After a year's worth of RBR when my GPU went bust, Sweden became so enjoyable it was almost criminal!

(Not really sure what point I wanted to make, just wanted to share a story :) )

I'm thinking a lot of the comments will be from people who are used to DR thinking there's too much grip by comparison. It'd be best to have a rally driver who hasn't played DR try it for an unbiased opinion. Maybe opinions will change when everyone's had a while to get used to the game.
I hope that's not the case, DR's grip levels were just ridiculous. If people used to THAT think D4's has too much grip, that means we have a huge problem. Fortunately from footage we've seen it doesn't look like it is anywhere near DR, it is improved vastly, also it's not something that cannot be fixed by fine tuning parameters by Codemasters. I agree cars seem to stick to the surface too much. That might explain why it is so difficult to see people powersliding, I am also worried about RWD after seeing Lancia 037 footage (I think I saw every single possible stream LOL).
On the other hand I saw some videos of cars behaving more realistic way (Subaru Gr. A for example, also Evo VI on tarmac- dry and wet), also RX physics seem to be really nice. Obviously I am waiting to get my hands on D4 before I post my actual impresions, I preordered so that will happen soon. I hope tuning the car's setup to oversteer a little bit more on loose stuff might make a difference. We'll see.
    EDIT:
DAMN, I JUST NOTICED THAT IN MY CONFRIMATION E-MAIL I GOT FROM THE SHOP I PREORDERED THEY LISTED DIRT 4 AS AVALIABLE STARTING... THE 12TH! I cannot wait whole weekend, you Polish retailers :persevere:
Porkie's 2001 Impreza video in the rain was spectacular. It was the first video in which the handling made me say wow (not counting RX videos), although I would have hoped it behaved like that in the dry.

Right, my mate and co-driver, Simen, has gotten hold of a code for the PS4 version, so I had the chance to sit down some time with the game yesterday. Although his wheel isn't set up the way I want at all, I did enjoy the physics of the rallycross cars and landrush trucks. However: The rallying physics were a let down. I found most of the cars I drove way too grippy with a lot of understeer. I actually prefer the loose surface rallying physics of DiRT Rally over my experience with DiRT 4 so far. This was of course running the simulation handling mode. Of course, I'm not going to jump to the final conclusion before I get to test the game on my own setup and fiddle around with the car setups, but I was a little disappointed by that.
Just curious. Were you doing sim mode with no assets at all either?
Was driving in sim mode with no assists on at all. It's weird though, the physics in rallycross and landrush are good, rallying is something else.
Oliver Solberg had said that rally physics weren't quite there yet in an RX stream once, and I remember asking if his concerns has been addressed. Never got an answer :(

  7. Alvarez always used to be kinda crap in DR, and if I recall correctly in D3 as well (where he drove the Osiris car). Every time I crash in DR but finish ahead of him I'm happy I'm the best of the Argentines :p

Point is, it's fun that he's the best now :D he improved so fast

I have big experience in Richard Burns Rally so I dont think so ;) But really - its possible is this a sim handling? I hope that is gamer mode ;)
Nothing can beat RBR in simulation /s
No, aki1337 use a gamepad with simulation handling. I think it looks easier than it is, and he probably practiced a little before actual recording.
Yes but the car reacts so fast, grip is too good. I saw other videos, for example Fiesta R5 on gravel and it looks more realistic ;) Maybe because of that he using a gamepad ;) I cant wait for this game to test it myself and to end with RBR once for all :P
I have to agree with you here. The 2001 Impreza seems to have crazy grip. There is very little slip going on and as you say the car reacts extremely fast. I know he's on pad and that can make movements a bit twitchy, but there is massive amounts of grip to match the twitchyness.
Yep. I'm extremely pleased with what we've seen of the tarmac handling, but the gravel still looks far too grippy. It's a shame, because in RX the gravel looks like the real thing.

Irish tarmac would be my preference: silly fast and very narrow!

    [wishlist]

Ireland wouldn't be my first choice, but with the improved tarmac physics I'd pick a tarmac location for sure. At the moment, there are three gravel and one tarmac and I wouldn't say Spain is particularly typical of tarmac rallying - I would love to see Ypres, Zlin, Valais, Mosel or, indeed, Ireland added.

    [/wishlist]

Every time I run Semetin 2009 in RSRBR I take one breath and one blink before the stage, and one breath and one blink after. Zlin would be glorious!

  10. @JZStudios B-but, you forgot the almighty old flag of Provo!
(Oops, a bit late, but lately I haven't been able to post anything either on this forum or Jalopnik on PC. It says that the site was unable to process my request or something. So annoying! I had a great countdown post for the 17th and I lost it all to a malfunctioning forum.)

    The struggle:
-Want M-sport to win a title
-Dont want Ogier to win another!

I wouldn't mind if he wins it this year. Not many have achieved it with different manufacturers. Something that makes him better than Loeb in my eyes.

Loeb won three titles, 04 05 and 06, with a car that wasn't made specifically for him, like the C4 and the DS3. He even won without racing in the final four rallies.

I feel I should thank whoever made the decision to show the entire 2017 season on Redbull TV. The coverage is really great, it's free, and I don't need a VPN to watch it. Plus, it's encouraged me to watch some other Redbull shows, so I guess that means the marketing is working!

Today was exciting, but a little bit of a bummer. It sucks to see Meeke and Paddon both having troubles again, and that roll from Latvala was frustrating. I'm glad he didn't end up out of the rally at least. I imagine the top spots will be changing hands quite a bit this weekend, so who knows what might happen.

It's also really great to see Carlo Sainz again!

The Red Bull coverage is spot on, although it sucks that previous rallies aren't available after they end. At least I haven't been able to find the old broadcasts:(

  13. Best case scenario: Ogier retires, Tänak wins the rally, Latvala wins the power stage. Unfortunately it's pretty much guaranteed that Latvala will drop to third in the standings by now :(

I was so excited this morning to see that for the first time in years Latvala was leading a rally owing to his own raw pace only. At least this crashing out of the lead means real Latvala is back :)
