The difference is that Mitsubishi acknowledged the car, even without homologating. Holzer and Opel didn't appear to have any communication about the R5 concept and IIRC Opel asked Holzer to remove the Opel Motorsport branding from their launch.
And nope, it's never run. -
Yep, although there were over 50 in D4 so with the 6 new ones officially announced (C5, Golf, Polo, S1 RX, 911, Camaro) and some rumoured (A112, 240Z, Mégane RX), I'm expecting quite a few from D4 to miss out or be held for DLC. I'd be quite happy to lose the 2000s class to start with if it allowed them to focus on filling it out with some new models.Areyouben said:We’ll still get 50+ cars though. So if we lose a few at least we get some new ones to play around with. :)One question for some car counting aficionados; how would you prefer the class structure to be ordered? By power-to-weight/class or by age?
I found it very frustrating in D4 for the Stratos to be in a class with the late 90s Group A RWD cars instead of its contemporaries (over whom it was only superior on tarmac). Other little gripes include the Evo XI being in the same class as the Lancia Delta Intergrale but split from the 2001 cars it actually competed against, the same with the Lancia Delta being separated from the Sierra RS500 and the early- and late-80s RWD cars being together whilst Group B was another class.
Trying to think how they would be classed in my ideal world but, for example, if the Abarth A112 comes to pass, do you think it should be with the Mini and Lancia with its low power or with the 205 and the Golf against whom it competed IRL?

I'm with you on that - always thought the Renault Clio would make a perfect R5 base. Project CARS 2 has some excellent fake TCR cars done this way. -
Anyone else on GB Shakedown at the moment...? -

As far as I remember it was only visual, didn't really affect the grip or anything. I'd love to be proven wrong on this though.bogani said:
Interesting. Can't really remember, such a long time ago.Flykas said:bogani said:
What? I have zero memories of that other than that there are ruts here and there.Flykas said:
Well, actually the often mentioned Richard Burns Rally had this feature.ShoSebastian said:In GameRiot's video on Youtube, you can see the road deformation icon, right in the beginning of the stage.
There seems to be 3 levels of deformation.
Although a bit basic, its still a never before seen gameplay feature in a rally game, to my knowledge. Pretty cool.
Or are you talking about mods?
No, vanilla game. Have you beaten it? Or at least finished some championships? There are ruts but they get deeper over time depending on your starting position and also some cuts on inside corners get really rough, really fun:]
Definitely affected grip, I didn't remember it being visual myself! -
We've seen bridges in the trailer already, so I imagine the other Argentinian stage is the other part. Would be nice for CM to confirm the same '2 stage' format as DR1. -
RallyDriven said:I’m excited about some of the features in dirt 4 that probably got overlooked due to the handling issues that will hopefully be making their way over to DR2.
Things like multi class rallies, dynamic weather, puddles of rain water on the inside of corners, retired cars on stage!
I'll add to that with multiplayer lobbies, which I thought were done really well.

Agree with this; D4 got a lot of things right but just not the main ‘feeling’ one. Multi-class rallies was good, but spoiled a bit by you always having the same 16 drivers in your class, regardless of which that was.RallyDriven said:I’m excited about some of the features in dirt 4 that probably got overlooked due to the handling issues that will hopefully be making their way over to DR2.

Flipping heck Codies. After watching some of these journalists bounce cars off everything in sight in chase view, I found the 'leaked' clip of the Audi in Argentina again, and boy does it show the game in a better light! You should be linking that clip everywhere. -

Datsun 240Z mentioned.
Was hoping for a 160J, but certainly not turning up my nose at a 240Z. Presumably H2 RWD. -

If each country has 3 or 4 tracks like this it will be great !
On Gamestar they say the DLCs will bring countries back from older episodes. If the tracks are new then it's cool, otherwise...Not only fans should notice, however, that in the list so many prominent rally country is missing. Where are Germany, Finland, Great Britain or the traditional Rally Monte Carlo, which still existed in the first part?
A question that we asked directly to Dirt boss designer Ross Gowing. The sobering response: "In the first six months after launch, we'll be bringing some of those fan favorites back home." So, those who want to drive on these routes will have to grab their bags and buy the Season Pass or the individual enhancements.
Regarding DLC, that’s potentially great news; I’d love to see some of these back and if that’s the DLC list sorted I’d be more than happy with that.
Regarding stage length, I suspect it will be similar to DR; A couple of 10-15km stages per location. Will be a tad disappointing not to have more KMs per country, if that’s correct, but unless we hear otherwise I’d expect no more. -
JorritVD said:I read on PSX-Sense that the disciplines are reduced (no hillclimb or trucks), and the focus is on Rally and RX.
Phew. May it stay that way into DLC too please.
Personally, I’ll be very interested to know how the AI will work with regards to the new road order and tyre compounds. Hopefully multi-class rallies are still a thing, even though it felt like D4 AI was a step down from DR’s to me.
Pity the video of the Audi in Argentina has been taken down, that was better than all these journalist videos for advertising the game to me! -
bogani said:I think most of us take for granted that Poland will be a gravel rally. What if that one is actually tarmac?
I have been wondering that and I sort of hope this will be the case - something close to Barum/Zlin would be ideal) but I think it's very much the outside chance. Most people will expect the jumps and crests from the now defunct WRC round (ERC this year).
To me, that's a few too many fast gravel rallies for my ideal calendar (I'm assuming USA = gravel too) but if so, maybe that's to give more time to perfect their new tech on tarmac or snow events. 5/8 gravel sounds about right. -
Rallystu86 said:Any ideas whether it will be playable at Rally G.B? I'm going anyway but wondering whether or not to hit the service park. That will depend entirely on Codies.
With it not being WRC sanctioned I would highly doubt it.

There were steaming mugs in the service area in Dirt 4... but was it tea or coffee?dwkGravey said:I like how the VR arguing continues circling the drain, but it’s coffee-vs-tea that causes a Codie’s employee to think, “Things are getting out of hand, I better step in here”. We all know what the important issues are.
(BTW DR2 better have tea support. No tea, no buy.)
Trick question; it depended on the country you were in. -
You and me both, but recent history isn't very favourable for Codemasters' ability to acquire Skodas, so I won't hold my breath. That said, good work getting Citroen back onboard, we know that was difficult in D4. -
H2 FWD was the Peugeot 205 class from D4, right?
So, over 50 cars = 51
So if we take D4, there were 52 Rally and RX cars. I'd expect RX numbers to be similar, probably will lose a couple (Mini, Focus) and gain a couple (A1, Mégane, i20); let's say a net gain of 1 or 2 maybe.
Other new cars to the series we already know:
- Citroen C3 R5
- VW Polo R5
- VW Golf
- Porsche 911 RGT
- Chevrolet Camaro GT4R
We'll probably lose a couple of the R5s to make way for the newer ones (hopefully we keep the Fiesta and i20), but it wouldn't surprise me if that was pretty much the car list. Even a net gain of 3 rally cars would push us into "over 50" territory and some will need saving for DLC (come on Fabia R5).
With those numbers, I'm just hoping we keep most of the roster from D4. Don't get me wrong, if they want to hold a class back to refine them for a post-launch release, I'm happy with that.
Oh, one minor request: please, for the love of gods, put the Stratos back with the Escort and 131 where it belongs. -

which is also the same thing they said for Dirt 4... we all know what happened...F2CMaDMaXX said:Yeah, they followed up immediately with they'll be looking for demand from consumers.
DR didn't have it until later either, also mentioned in the article.
In fairness, DiRT 4 did try to compensate for a lot of the complaints about DR: they sorted the 'floaty' cars, introduced a stage generator, made the game more 'showy' - just unfortunately it was one step forward and one or two steps back at the same time. But you can't say they didn't listen to the community.
Hopefully this one has the best of both. -
Agreed @SkyRex - both had their pros and cons; I certainly don't want the weird jumping from DR1 to come back.
I never got the same feeling of challenge with D4 as with DR (both physics and the AI competition), but if they're able to recapture this then the only other question I have too is whether they have found a way to create >150km+ of unique rally stages. With only a year passing since D4's release, there will certainly be limits on what's been possible in that time.
Fingers crossed we find out some information tomorrow. -
Perhaps, I'd be happy with it if it is. No 'just' about it.juu1ius said:isn't it just some Greece stage 2.0 ?
BTW, no one is going to make an 'E2 = DR2' link? If this isn't called DiRT Rally Evo 2........ -

My heart bleeds for anyone responsible for falsely suggesting the fact I wouldn't recognise repeated 'tiles' for ages, when in reality it was the second stage I played in any country.
I'm looking forward to finding out more, but I've been burned by my full price D4 pre-order and will be a lot more wary this time. -
Rallystu86 said:Either way it'll be announced soon. I dream of dirt rally but with 10-15 rally events. Could've got years out of dirt rally with updates an paid content. Let's hope ay
Personally, I don't really care about the number of events, it's the number of kilometres they can create which is important to me. I would have preferred 200km of unique stage over four locations than 100 over 8.
I understand the huge challenge they have here, as I'm basically asking for more unique Kms of road than Project Cars has, but to me the biggest issue with both DR and D4 was the fact each location only had about 20km of unique stage.
