real life 2020 FIA World Rally Championship
YoMrWhite replied to Fedemaisonnave's topic in DiRT Rally 2.0
Breen has been impressive, in my opinion. He had some good rallies last year, also. And don't forget he has the least experience of all works drivers. If he continues like this, he may soon challenge Meeke as Citroens lead driver. I really like Meeke - he is fast and you just have to root for someone who gets his big career opportunity at 35+ years. But he still makes too much mistakes to be a constant threat for someone as consistent and fast as Ogier. I just hope he has already used up his bad luck for the first half of the championship in Monte Carlo. -

Let's sum this up: Meeke had to retire for the day after a quite innocent looking impact on day 1, lost over 20 minutes with electrical problems on day 2 and then got hit by another car in the evening and has to miss day 3 because there's no Rally 2 in Monte Carlo. That's enough bad luck for at least three rallies... -

Yeah. I think next year will be a lot more interesting if Ogier goes to Ford. His decision could be an early gauge as to which car is quicker though. Agreed. But somehow I don't believe he will choose a semi-works Team like M-Sport over Citroen. And if he wants to drive there, there will be a place for him. I just hope they don't axe Breen. He was quite impressive in 2016. Just compare him to other newcomers like Lefèbvre and Camilli. He definitely has earned a drive for next year. -
Okay, but I have to complete all the levels of 60s championship to unlock the others? You can change the car class after each championship and you don't need to progress according to the suggested periods. If you can afford it, you can drive any car from any class in the championship, regardless of your level.

Well, take it like a man. Everybody gets fired now and then. :D

The ride seems a bit too smooth, no bumps and such. It looks like the car is gliding over the track, even when leaving it.

I haven't been following it so much this weekend, but what exactly did he do other than set one reasonable stage time? Yeah he came 5th, but that's really only cause a lot of people retired. He's just not that quick, and I highly doubt he ever will be I find it difficult to judge his performance. He has only limited experience, but he beat Ostberg on most of the stages in Portugal. On the other hand, he had the better road position. Then again, both Fiestas were clearly the slowest of the works cars. Is that their real potential? Or are both drivers just not so fast? One thing is clear, though: Camilli has made progress. The question is if he can keep this up. In Sardinia, his and Ostbergs road position won't be so different, so it will be interesting to see how their times stack up against. -

Yes, he shows remarkable speed and looks and sounds quite calm, too. I hope he keeps it together until the finish. -

Yes, it seems he has lost his mojo and needs a change. But if I'm Citroen, I would stay put with Meeke, Lefebvre and Breen for next season. All three are highly motivated, they do the testing and therefore will know the car for 2017. I'm not sure how much upside Breen and Lefebvre have, but I would give them a chance to prove themselves in 2017. -

Keep in mind that first on the road doesn't have to be a disadvantage. It's certainly the best position to have on tarmac, and it doesn't make much of a difference at faster gravel events, like Poland and Finland. In Sweden and Monte Carlo, it all depends on the weather. That leaves us with about 7 rallies, where first on the road is usually a clear disadvantage. But this can change, too, for example with hanging dust or in the case of rain. Considering all this, I don't think it's that much of a factor in the course of a season. -
Come on, we need some positive thinking here!

Friends, romans, countrymen, the DR homepage is down. Does that mean we get our update today?
-
Homepage is down for me. Maintenance? It's much too early for the next update, as far as I know.

I don't mind being able to save and quit in between, as I usually have my own share of "family emergencies". And my computer is used for other things, too. I just think that you shouldn't be able to gain an advantage on others by quitting the game this way.
-
Hmm...that's annoying. Are you enabling any of the stages in your events as checkpoints? A decently simple solution would be to just allow on single Alt-F4 per checkpoint, more and you get thrown out of the event. So if it's a checkpoint on SS3, and I Alt-F4 on SS5 I go back to SS3. But if I Alt-F4 again on SS4 after that I get an immediate resignation. That way you can do an emergency Alt-F4 without fucking up your complete event while stopping the Alt-F4 abuse. What do you really need Alt-F4 for? You can always pause the game if you must. But if you crash, you crash. Go on regardless or retire, that's my view. So I'm with RinusRally here.
-
Agreed. No retry should mean exactly that.
-
Well, not really. Rally has mostly been a game for two players: Ford versus Fiat in the late 70s, Lancia vs Audi (83/84), Audi vs Peugeot (85), Peugeot vs Lancia (86), Lancia vs Toyota (89-92)... Only after the introduction of WRC from the late 90s to the early/mid 2000s did we have three or four teams and more than two or three drivers to really compete for the title. Then it dried out again and left only two teams (Citroen and Ford) for several years. So, having up to five competitive teams in 2017 is something special. Let's hope it lasts.

That won't work. That's as if Toyota would use the Yaris. Wait... -

Peugeot belongs to the same concern as Citroen, so I think they will stay put in WRC2 - on the other hand they competed against each other in WRC in the early 2000s. Kind of strange decision, management wise. I would love to see some italian manufacturer back in the fold. Lancia doesn't seem to have a suitable car (do they sell any, by the way?), but Fiat would be a nice addition. -
I practised math with my daughter today and man, you're right! Still don't get what that means for the game...

I think they can just hand the title to Ogier right now. He's just too good to let this slip away. At least Hyundai can keep it close in the manufacturers standings for now. -

Being three time champion and having not much to prove anymore certainly plays a role. I really think he would have enjoyed his win even more if Meeke would have been there till the end.
