  1. So, just done my first weekly, and I was shocked. Granted, I do run my game on an old fashion 7200rpm HDD, not SDD.

But I had 4 seconds from the track loaded until the race started. No way to do anything with race strategy, tyres to start on or anything. Not to mention, it doesn't save the setup from practice/qual session. So I had default setup when driving. Only thing that saved me in the race was the changing weather, pitting at the right time and seemingly managing the inters better than the guys ahead.

However, I understand that for super-quick loaders it's boring to sit and wait, but add another 60 seconds or so to the pre-race time? At least let people have a chance to load their setup and maybe start on mediums instead of soft...

For me this is the nice balance between doing it realistic, but at the same time have good control over my surroundings so I'm a safe driver 🙂

  3. Really unsure where to post this. As it's not a game bug per se, but it does have consequences for e.g online playing so.

    The Issue:
While playing F1 2020 my steam profile turns green, and my profile on the webpage says that I am playing F1 2020. However, it does not show up for any of my friends that I am playing. Gametime etc. are logged and that shows up correctly. But no matter what, none of my friends can see that I am playing. For them, I just stay "online".

    Game Version:
    1.03

    Game-Mode:
    All.

    Replicate:
Just starting the game and asking if anyone see that I am playing. None does.

    Troubleshooting:
Deleting all Beta-files, hiding the Beta from my Steam. Starting in DX11 and DX12. Validating all files. Rebooting. Re-starting Steam. Latest drivers are installed. It works on every single other game.

    Video:
Not needed (nor possible for me to provide)
    DXDiag:
    If needed. I'll post it.

    Additional info:

While this seems like a total non-issue. It's frustrating as I have mates who wanted to watch me play the game, and then decided if they would buy it or not. That way they could ask me on Steam-chat to try different setting etc. to see if things works the way they want to. As it doesn't show up as me playing. There is no way for them to "watch game" on Steam.
In addition, and this is a bigger issue. As it doesn't register that I am in the game. It's also not possible to join me in any online game from Steam. One of the great features with Steam is the right-click on anyone playing a game and choose "join game". And you jump straight in to whatever online game is played. This also doesn't work.

For me this have only been an issue on F1 2020 Beta and F1 2020. It works in every single other game. I'm really confused.

  4. It looks way better now, but I reserve the right to be skeptical of the long-term effect as there is a certain RX Invitational this weekend. If it keeps working superb for a while after, then I'll be very happy! 🙂

And yes, I know this seems somewhat ungrateful, but man this have been going on for a long long time!

    That's not what I stated.

The only graph I see (and rightly so) is the concurrent users. Given the myriad of data sources and server call types a game like this would have, I imagine there are far more detailed logs elsewhere. It's not my job to look at those, only to trust the word of those that do 🙂

That's how it feels and looks from a customer point of view.

I also expect there to be lots of very detailed, complicated data for people to look at. But the fact is, during EU-evenings there are big issues. The amount of people posting here is small compared to different forums, discords and facebook groups that I'm a part of (and I'm not really part of many). These daily issues have also been a thing since the amount of players started to grow when countries started shutting down. They got better for a little while after the worst period, and then they just went back to how it was before.
So, it feels like there is some possibilities. Game is to old, there's not much more money left to get from it, Codemasters just don't care (which would explain why there was such an effort when the huge influx from the free period, as there is DLC to sell). But now there's not many new PS4 players joining in so cost v revenue isn't in favor of putting down work anymore.
Or the game isn't a priority as new games are on the way, so it's just not anything that matters.
Or there has been a serious attempt at fixing it, but whatever system that's made just doesn't seem to be fixable, or whatever part of the company that has that as a task isn't able to fix it.

Honestly not sure which of those possibilities that's the most frightening from a customer PoV. Of course there might be other reasons, but something worked when easter started, then something stopped working after a while. And it all feels like server capacity is maxed out. Too much connections or attempts to connect, surely not helped by the seemingly endless points in the game where it sends and inquiry to the site/server to get data, instead of spending 0.3 second more to gather more data when it first connects.

Also, I do sympathize with your position in this. I run loads of kiosks on football stadiums where I live, and there are so many times we have tech.issues that's out of my control (wi-fi, electricity etc.) but as the boss I step in and take the flak instead of my employees. When in my hobby I have hosted quite a few eSport-events, and I know that as I am the main person to contact, I will get all the complaints etc. even when e.g RaceNet is down, which is nothing I can fix. I cannot make the rallies last longer etc. As I said I really sympathize with you, as I know you'll hear much more from us when things are bad, than praise when things work.

I hope I'm wrong, but fear I'm right.

EDIT: This was edited in after I quoted your initial post.

I'd love to be able to turn around one day and say something along the line of "the team has found what causes these things and has issued a conclusive fix" (somewhat like when we said that native Oculus VR support was finally coming to the Steam version), but until that day comes there's not a whole lot I can do really. Server instabilities happen, sometimes total outages, and I pass the word on in both directions.

Maybe I'm not accurately reporting them, not reporting frequently enough, or haven't come up with an effective way for you all to give more conclusive feedback, I don't know. Or maybe I'm not coming up with an effective system for communicating things in the other direction. The reality of the matter is that I don't really know what to say to make things better for you guys, maybe I can't, maybe it's not up to me.

Ideally I want you all to never have the need to post in this thread again, for you all to be happily playing away without things interrupting your progress. Hopefully that day comes in the near future.

I would also love you to be able to say that. The frustrating thing is that at this point, the only things that can make this better is "there is a solution" or "it now works". So it's not really up to you in that sense I guess.
But ye, something worked after the biggest issues, then the same something stopped working. I guess there's a reason why some (like me) thinks that there is a solution, but it's not worth it cost-wise.

I asked yesterday as although concurrent user charts don't show any prolonged spikes, people are still reporting things (albeit nothing compared to the 1,000+ comments per day [no exaggeration] I was getting between April 8 and 10), essentially proposing the question on whether a drop in users on the chart is the only way to see data, or if there's data on people failing to connect to specific areas of the game, extra wait times etc..

If and when I get an update that I can share, I do so. Server issues are the thing I like least about the game (just like all of you), but in reality I'm just the messenger; I take all of the disappointment (and sometimes hate) that comes in, relay what I can and then provide an update when possible. I can't do much else.

So basically we just have to wait until enough players fall off and doesn't bother with the game anymore? I also expect that the techy guys look at attempts to connect or something like that. Not going off user charts (if xBox and PS4 has anything similar to Steam), as people will be registered as in the game while not being able to connect to your services.
I also realize this is about as basic as "restart your computer", but I must admit I've lost complete faith in Codemasters being able to/bothering to fix this. It does seem like the only hope is that some big name (e.g a Solberg or similar) gets issues during the Solberg Cup. Or a big youtuber/twitcher the same. Or even if you guys are doing another eSport type event and issues happens then. If none of this happens I honestly don't see this being enough of a priority, when nothing have changed in 6+ weeks.

I'm just spitballin' here, trying to get to the bottom of this. Network stuff is complicated and intertwined.

It is. However, a Playstation Network issue shouldn't have consequences for your own servers and systems. Unless you use it to host all your stuff. Which I find highly unlikely.

It's a very telling "coincidence", that when countries started quarantines, some were in lockdown etc. and playerbases grew, that the RaceNet errors started occur more frequently. And the more countries that put in measures, and the bigger playerbases became, the more issues RaceNet had.
It's not like this started when you guys gave it away for free on PS. It just became even worse when that happened. This all started pre, medio-March. It's been going on to a varying degree for just over six(6) weeks.
The fact that you(Codemasters, not you PJTierney!) still haven't been able to fix this, or seemingly doing much more than "monitoring".
For a customer, this looks like the game is finished, not much more money to get out of the game, and thus putting just a minimum of effort in to it as well. Sorry to say but this is an awful way to handle business, and it will cause a decline in goodwill from customers, and it will likely cause people to be fed up from issues in future games much quicker as well.

I am amazed that a company of Codemasters size, and years in the business are having problems like this, over such time with so little actual communication to customers. It doesn't even feel like anything are being done.

I understand you are a small company, but can't you guys get help from the community? I'm surr therr are a lot of people with technical expertise, including myself, that would be willing to help making this more reliable, and who knows, maybe people who can donate cloud resources to help you cope with the demand!

Attempt at a joke, right? Codemasters have approx 700 employees. Quite a few on the racing games, they also bought/acquired and got the talent from Evolution Studios (PS2 WRC Games, MotorStorm and Driveclub) and now Slighly Mad Studios (NfS:Shift, pCars). It's really not a small company going over 70 mill GBP in revenue in 2019(Fiscal Year) ending on 3.7mill GBP in profit. That's not small studio numbers.

  9. Yup. Continuing with massive issues in Norway as well. PC.

I actually thought for a little while that Codemasters seemed to care about these issues. But now it looks like it was just due to the new players in the free-period and trying to make an impression on them.

Honestly don't understand why I spend loads of time trying to get an eSport-thing up and running on DR2.0

  10. So, I would really like to see a couple of things being brought back to clubs.

    More than 12 stages.
Ability to lock rallies to certain cars, or more than one car class.

This was a thing in DR1, and it a step back imo.

Also requested back then, was a results exporter, a button on the site to get out a csv-file or something. It would ease up the workload for people running eSport-events.

What I do know however is that the studio takes these issues and outages seriously and has done so since before the game's launch, and their causes and future actions come up frequently in meetings.

Well, as a customer. It doesn't exactly feel like it's taken seriously.

Maybe if some big-shot get's issues in the Solberg Cup. Or Broadbent have major issues when he'll stream it something will happen. Seems to be the recurring theme these days, someone with a name must have issues for companies to react.

That happens every so often but is generally unrelated to the game, usually I have found it comes back after a few refreshes or when I disable certain plugins on my browser.

It might be unrelated to the game in the sense that it runs differently, but 99/100 times if I get an connectivity error in-game, I won't be able to log on the site to check either. And vice-versa.

Running really slow for me now as well. Both site and in-game.

Does this maybe have anything to do with it? 😛

    Sort of a capacity issue?

The capacity issue started showing up in January. Got worse in February, and have basically been a persistent issue for much of March, we've had major issues over the last weeks at RaceDepartment, people asking for longer session times (not possible). Rallies having to start later as it's been impossible to even enter the club-section on the dirtrally2-site.
Basically the last 3 weeks it's always been hours in the afternoon/evening EU-time with massive connection-issues.
This has been reported in many places, but seemingly no work was taken from Codemasters... See quote under as well!

Hey all, wanted to drop something here to keep you updated on the current server/connection issues with DiRT Rally 2.0 👇

The news is similar to last night: we're continuing to see steady improvement and more players connecting in the game, but there's still work to be done. We've got multiple departments working through another evening to keep improving the situation.

For anyone still unable to connect in the game, we apologise. It sucks. We'll keep pushing this forward and working hard to get more players smoothly into all areas of the game. Keep giving us your feedback as it's invaluable for us as we assess the impact of changes we make.

    Thank you 🙂

    Not possible to connect.

This seems to be a thing for the users in our club as well. We've had well over 100-drivers the last weeks, 161 last week. With 60 new members this week we've had less than 70 drivers starting SS1. In addition to this, while there is always a "solid" number of retired drivers, Of the 69 starters, only 19 has been able to do all stages. Many falling off due to the connection-error leading to retirements as one don't want to have the game open for x-hours in case it suddenly works the 10 seconds when you click "try again". And main menu leads to retirement on the stage.

Too bad you had to give the game away for free and get a massive influx of users not able to play the game to start investigating and fixing this... On the flipside - good thing game was given away for free, so this actually is worked on.

Honestly not many of us actually know what an actual simulator feels like, as they tend to not be sold for us. One of the most used simulators in racing and etc. seems to be rFpro and we have no way to even try what it feels like etc.

Oh. I have! It's interesting how I could jump straight in and not have much issues due to me playing loads of rF in that time. However, even though I felt like I was both fast, in super control and pushing one of the driver coaches there decided to do a small "pro-driver training" session with me. Holy smokes I had time to gain everywhere, and I didn't have as much control as I thought either. It was a really good experience. It showed me that "our" sims are surprisingly close to the pro-sims. Also, I don't have the motivation or will to be a top sim-driver 🙂

A lot of people seem to not like Austin despite him consistently being at the top of the leaderboards in pretty much every game because he's really critical of sim games and how much they've stagnated, and how terrible some of the exploits are. I've always though he was the most reliable source to get a look at where sim games currently are. Enthusia really is eerily similar to AC, but I think actually a lot better and more fun to play with. It certainly does a lot more suspension travel and body roll than AC does, where everything must be maxed out all the time.

It's not that he is critical though, it is how it is presented.
And quite a lot other reasons.

    Speed isn't everything.

it literally makes no difference. you don't actually get a second copy of the stuff you've already purchased. and even if it did, it would be easy to get rid of it again.

if this is really all that is preventing you from getting S3/S4, then I don't really see the point in continuing this conversation.

Seems like you fail to understand me. In bundles where you parts, the parts you own are not bought again. However, a package rebate is still applied. As Codemasters have NOT made it so Deluxe Edition owners are recognized as having the Deluxe Edition one would need to buy that again.

If I were to add the Super Deluxe Edition in my cart, I would not pay for DR 2.0 again, however, I would pay for Season 1+2 again even though I own it. The same goes for Year Pass. I have to buy, as in pay for Season 1+2 again. Even though I own it.

    You see the difference?

Compare that to e.g Euro Truck Simulator 2, if I were to buy the Essential Bundle there, I own 5 out of 6 things. Then those 5 are removed from the bundle, and the cost is of the parts of the bundle I don't own. And I get the package rebate on that one product. Because unlike Codemasters, SCS Software have actually recognized everything I already have paid for, and those are removed from the bundle. That way I don't have to pay for something I already have paid for, which I have to with DR 2.0

it really doesn't matter. you're still paying a reduced price for the S3/S4 content. sure you're technically paying for other things (that you already have), but you don't need it so it's irrelevant. I bought the pack yesterday, and it's super worth it.

I don't like to pay for the same things twice though... I might get price off S3+4 content, which I have done from every "package rebate". But at least on my Steam, I still have to actually pay for season 1+2, which I already paid for when I bought the deluxe edition. If season 1+2 had been removed from it due to me already owning it, like the base game is in the packages with the base game, that would've been different. But for me, it is not - and I would have to pay for season 1+2 as well as 3+4.
