I Think its more about building a new game engine, When they built one then you will get your next gen games from codies.

The PC master race always as to wait for the next gen games to be made to get the real true graphics out of the ports.

Code Masters has stated that PC is lead platform which means they are technically optimizing the game for hardware that is as good or better than a PS4 or Xbox One. All they need to do is make it compatible with the OS itself.

You van still buy a new 360 and a new ps3. So still currentgen i think. Next to that, i always wait a minimum of 2 years when the new consoles arrives before buying. By then I have plenty to choose from. I don't understand that people complain about GAS not being on ps4 or xbone. You all knew the games would be very sparse the first year a new console would arrive! Sée PS3 and 360
Being able to buy new isn't the indicator, the indicator is what products are on the market. You could buy new PS2's well into the PS3/X360 life cycle. The point is that the PS4 and the XB1 are the "current" generation of consoles in the proper use of the term. I would hardly consider 8 year old hardware to be "current" when the current systems have been out for about 6 months.

I also agree that the PS4 is a massive opportunity. Whoever gets there first is going to make a packet because of the lack of racing games out there for it and people wanting to have a racing game to play.

That's the big thing for me. As a business opportunity there is a HUGE cash cow waiting to happen and it seems like a bad oversight to miss that.

Well I doubt they'll throw out a next gen version because few guys on the forum would like one but it still niggles at me...I mean there are very few next gen exclusives..take your fifa's..cod..bf4..ac:bf there are plenty of cross gen games and that don't really exploit next gen but have made themselves accessible to the next gen consumers...yet grid can run at 1080p & 60fps but the techs not ready? I assume that is the tech to make the game physically playable on a next gen console rather than just to make a game that's 'worthy' of the title of being a next gen game or something because by the looks of it, it's further than some have got
I was hoping that instead of taking into account a few forum posts they would consider the 13 million plus who already own an Xbox One or PS4.
  5. When they began  making Autosport CM probably didn't even know the specs for the new systems as they probably wouldn't have known till we did and every one of the Xboxes and Playstations until now has been compatible with older games.
That doesn't make sense. They began work on this right after Grid 2, and the next gen tech has been out to developers for longer than that.
  6. EA had no problems porting Need For Speed. Im just gutted that Ive supported codie for years and now cant. Chop Chop with Autosport 2 ;)
Don't forget how big of a company EA is.
Indeed. I've been in the (non-gaming) software industry for 20-odd years, and in my experience there is very rarely such a thing as a "simple port".
Yeah I agree EA must have at least twice if not 3 times the money and resources CM do and some of EA's games have similar types of bugs as CM's as well as I've been hit by savegame bugs and what have you even in their gamers so it's pretty clear that it's not that straightforward
Well if you look at what EA does, they literally build separate versions for each system. All we're asking for is a straight PC port. There's a big difference between building a game from the ground up for a new system and taking an existing game and simply making if function on another OS. All they have to do is take the PC version and make it compatible with the new console's operating systems (which is what the majority of game developers do for their games anyways).
maybe but it's also entirely possible that the Ego engine that CM use for their racing titles in it's current state isn't compatible with the Next gen systems after all CM have said whrn they're ready to go next gen with a game they'll let us know. They said they don't want to do a halfway job with next gen they said when they start putting together games for the new systems they will be fully focused on making things right on those systems.
I'd buy that if I haven't already seen straight ports with little to no difference between the previous gen version and what I played. Tomb Raider comes to mind, outside of a resolution boost and a few textures it's basically the same. Compatibility relies on the OS of the console, not the "technology" behind how they built the game. Anything can be tailored to be compatible with the new systems.

I don't do consoles, but I can just imagine that if a new game was released for next gen but without last gen compatibility there would be plenty of hollering.  I can think of at least one racing game coming out later this year where that will probably be the case.

    Frank
There are plenty of games that already did this and there was no uproar. The early adoption rate of the new consoles is higher than it's ever been in history.

I can appreciate wanting to make something a "true" next gen game but considering the lack of options in the racing genre for next gen consoles, from my point of view whether it was optimised for it or not I'd rather take something than nothing & I could imagine that a large portion of the multi million next gen console owners would probably feel the same & I'd think if your going to design something specifically for next gen then by the time thats arrived so has all your competition, project c.a.r.s., driveclub..., rumours of GT7, I just think it's maybe a bit of a missed opportunity to get yourself a big piece of that pie whilst there's no one else around
Well said. Drive Club and Project CARS alone are going to be very steep competition, let alone with GT7 rolls along.

Conversely, if we released something that wasn't that well optimised (maybe it wasn't 1080/60 for example) we'd get absolutely crucified, of that I have no doubt :)

Catch 22 sadly. End of the day though, if the tech isn't ready, not much we can do.
yes granted if there's a flaw or flaws then there would no doubt be endless threads about it but i genuinely think you could get away with stating from the off its a "last gen /current gen whatever" game simply made accessible to next gen owners because of the lack of games in the racing genre, I mean considering what alternatives are available I would think that would be acceptable
Exactly. And if they can make it for the more advanced PC specs, they can make it for the new consoles as well. Just needs to run on the PS4/XB1 OS that's all.

Which is what we are missing for some reason right now.
at the moment it would appear they don't yet have the resources to do it right now or if they do they're not quite ready yet
That's their own fault for screwing up Grid 2 at the end of a console generation's life cycle and then trying to fix it after the new systems are already on the market.
  12. That's way too much PR bull crap. Other companies have given us excellent ports that we were happy to take so far. The PC port would be welcomed with open arms. The whole "next gen tech" is the biggest pile of you know what I've ever heard. I mean seriously, the PC market has better hardware than the "new" consoles at this point and you had no problem putting on PC. Not all of your customers are that stupid to accept that answer.
  13. I still don't understand the "well the previous gen are still the majority." By that logic, Code Masters should be making games for the previous gen for the next few years. Part of the reason Grid 2 didn't sell as well is because it was nearing the end of the previous gen's life cycle and the same thing happened to GT6. There is tons of money to be earned by making this for next gen, even as a straight port with no upgrades or bells and whistles. To not grab that opportunity is madness.

Dont buy a next gen console until games come to It, Im very ok with my xbox 360, there isn't a game that makes me buy a PS4 or XBone for now (Maybe Forza 5, but Im more excited for Project CARS, so I'll wait for It to buy a next gen console)
I have plenty of games for it. Between Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Resogun, Outlast, Tomb Raider (previous gen port, works great btw),Infamous, Don't Starve, Strider, Mercenary Kings, and soon to be Child of Light and MLB 14 The Show I have plenty of amazing content to play.

There are 13 million+ people who have adopted the current generation of consoles already. You can't just blow off these people for any reason. It's insane.

And how many of those 13 million gamers have got rid of their old console not that many. You cant blame Codies for this they NEVER said their next game would be out on the new consoles and dont forget most of those other games you mention that where ported where done by other companies and not the main Dev company. Codemasters arent a massive company and want to be the only ones working on their games. Buy yourself a cheap ass 360 or PS3 and get the game then enjoy it like everyone else.
I'm not going to go buy an old system for one game at this point. Besides, most people who have both systems would rather buy a game for the same price on their new hardware, I know I would. I keep old systems to play old games, nothing more.
  15. @MasterSparky

    Serious question.

Would you really want a next gen game that had been ported from the previous gen? It just seems a bit pointless.

I'm sure the next gen GRID or what ever it may be in a couple of years, will be fantastic! (although I know it's quite a long wait!)
As a very satisfied owner of the Tomb Raider port on PS4, yes. I'd take a PC port as it stands in a heartbeat.

Hey guys. Just thought I'd link you to this interview our Chief Designer James gave to the folks at Videogamer.com as I think he does a good job explaining the reasons behind the platform decision.

Sorry but that just sounds like PR spin. Other games have already had very successful ports that sold well.

oh quit whining will you. your own fault for selling up and going next gen. ive not gone next gen nor do i plan on yet. especially after hearing about all the bans online and such.. id rather stay on ps3.. so instead of having no cockpit view whining. we now have no next gen whining...
It's their loss, not mine. I would gladly give them my money for a PS4 version, so would a lot of us who are enjoying our CURRENT GEN consoles. Not giving us the PC port at least shows a lack of vision considering we've already had some previous gen ports that did very well on PS4 and Xbox One.

You can say it's my fault for selling my Xbox 360, but it's simply my choice. I'm not going to grieve this bad business decision for long, but considering how quick I would have been to buy this for PS4 I'm just letting Codies know that they are losing sales because of this.

Even GT6 did poorly on PS3. Why? People are waiting for games on PS4/Xbox One. The market for Grid Autosport on previous gen systems is a small niche market at this point. The bulk of their potential profits are in the PC, PS4, and Xbox One communities at this point, especially since those of us who have moved on to the current crop of systems would gladly buy a new racing game.

  19. Aaaaaand, not on current gen consoles. Way to screw over everybody who invested in the new systems.
Nobody made you buy one, and Codemasters certainly never promised they were going to immediately start making games for it. There’s rarely any great benefit with any tech to being an early adopter, and consoles are no exception.
Weird, because my copy of Tomb Raider, a straight port from previous gen to current gen, is outstanding and works just fine. Sticking with the past generation of consoles isn't going to help Codies here.
