  1. Long hours and low pay doing repetitive tasks. At the contract employee level you will probably be given test plans that you execute over and over, not really free form bug hunting. But I have never worked on that side of things, and it probably varies considerably between organizations.

  2. Man, that's a lot of positions open at nearly every level of game development. If I were to take a guess, this is anticipation of a big churn cycle driven by a large amount of employees no longer having the work visas needed to be employed in the UK. But I hope I am wrong, CM losing access to a vast talent pool doesn't bode well for the quality of future titles.

Hah! So that we can make them good!
@KickUp I am really glad to hear you guys are improving the league (club) system. Our sim racing group got so much mileage out of the game due to it, two years of nearly continuous rally championships and events out of DR due to this system. Hopefully the improvements will mean far less spreadsheet work for our championships in the future. :)

If you need a medium sized group (20-30) to help test it and/or give feedback, we would love to get involved. We ran all sorts of different championship formats: multi-class, teams, championships within championships, etc. so I feel like our experience using (abusing?) DR's league system could be helpful from a league admins perspective.

  4. I know hating on Milestone is cool, but I think the concept of Gravel looks great. I love open world driving games and I love desert racing, so I am happy to have a game that tries to fill that niche. I think it is a lot better direction for them than their rally games.

Horizon 3 scratched that itch for me a bit, but the off road physics of that game is seriously lacking compared to how great the rest of the game is.

  5. The ironic thing about this pre-order DLC is that it will be the thing that turns what would have been a rare pre-order purchase for me into skipping pre-ordering entirely. I disagree with the sales tactic of pre-order DLC so strongly that I refuse to support it in any way.

On top of that, it will have lasting negative effects for users that didn't or couldn't pre-order. Every time they see the i20 on a leaderboard they will be reminded of how the game they purchased is incomplete. It creates long lasting resentment in the user, yet is easily avoidable.

As a league admin, this also trickles down to my league. I am really excited to run a series with the R5 cars, but I will have to decide if I allow the i20 in an R5 series, or if I exclude it to ensure the drivers are on a level playing field and have access to the same equipment.

To go off of this, the modern cars in DR (particularly the 2010s) have awkward camera positions in the Helmet Cam view that cause the dash/gear indicator to be blocked by the steering wheel, even in the default seating position, and all the seat adjustments just block it further. Ideally a steering wheel adjustment option would solve this, but I image that's not possible for technical reasons. I don't know if it would be possible at this point in development, but it would be much better if the steering wheels are positioned so they don't block the dash by default at least, for those of us who play with no HUD and the in-game wheel on.
I play with no HUD and the ability to disable wheel was a godsend.

  7. If I was a game manufacturer I wouldn't license a single thing, because it is the worst thing to ever happen to driving games, ever. I would focus on creating a high fidelity simulation platform that allows user to create whatever they wanted, and thus transfer the liability of copyright violation to said user.

But then again, that's why I am an engineer and not a marketeer.
