Just heard that Evans is a go at M-Sport for a full drive with co-driver Scott Martin.
-
I'm disappointed as well. I was under the impression that since Ogier stayed at M-Sport for '18 that Ford must have stepped up their support, because I believe that was his requirement for staying there after the '17 season. But reading that article it doesn't sound like they did much at least financially.I also found it hilarious that when Ogier won the titles, Ford Performance was quick as heck to post it all over social media. Almost trying to take credit for it as if it was their blood, sweat, and tears that won those championships. -
I thought I remembered previously reading Paddon had signed for a full drive and it wasn't Hyundai? And I would've thought Mikkelsen had a full season too, but maybe not. I didn't think Hyundai before because that would mean Sordo and Loeb trading the 3rd car, but there's some rallies that they would both want to do.Looks like at least Suninen is still at M-Sport. Saw some footage of him testing. The Fiesta has some new aero at the back wheel arches. Looks like a mix of the old and the newer ones that Ogier sported a couple times.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AVfczw9bcU -
Wow, no Loeb in 2019, at least in a C3. Perhaps seeing him in a Fiesta for a few rounds next year isn't as far fetched as I once thought. It's the only team I could see willing to give up a seat for 3-4 rounds.https://www.autosport.com/wrc/news/140455/loeb-wont-get-citroen-wrc-outings-in-2019 -
I understand whatever sponsorship money a driver can bring with him is crucial for M-Sport. But, I don't know. I feel like if Wilson can do it, I would give Evans one more season/shot. He's already invested how many years in him? Paddon, Evans, and Suninen I think would be pretty solid considering.I like Breen and he can be quick, but he still get flustered rather easy sometimes, albeit less than his IRC days. Especially if the Fiesta is going to be lagging behind on raw pace, I can see him getting into trouble trying to constantly over drive it. -
Yeah, but how would you police something like that? If it became a rule, you'd just have teammates stall or spin at hairpins, or have some kind of "intermittent" mechanical problem, etc, etc.

Yes it is now. And it’s got new audio too :DAlf72 said:Can an expert, or someone at Codies, confirm it's a Gr.4 MkII Escort?

Really? We are talking about landings here and not just in general? In that case it shouldn't be hard finding instances of people blowing tires on landings, do you have any links? I can't recall ever watching coverage and seeing someone have a blow-out from landing. Other than the tweet BrySkye found a while back (here) about Gronholm getting one from landing (in 2014) I don't know of any instances of this happening. So yes, it can happen. With the frequency and ease it happens in game? No.F2CMaDMaXX said:I think the tyres blowing like they have been doing is realistic, it still happens even in WRC today.

From now on anytime you talk about how everything's fine, no one knows how to setup suspension, no one knows how to drive properly, etc, etc, and it's realistic how it is now (tires blowing left and right from landings are so totally realistic), I'm going to post this:RinusRally said:Hey guys - We've made the tyres much less precious now, new code will be in the v1.1 update. :)
But.. but... :(
edit: So some people don't know how to adjust/finetune their suspension and dampers than complain about tyres being to sensitive. Now Codemasters upped the strenght of the tyres. I thought we were striving for realism, not simcade/arcadeism because people can't handle their suspension and dampers. I am so sad right now. Cause it's all Blizzard-Activision all over again; dumb stuff down till you have Diablo 3.

From about the late 90's to 2009 there seemed to always be some great battles as far as the driver's championship was concerned. Like the 2006 season: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_World_Rally_Championship#Drivers.27_championship
Not sure what's more impressive, the fact that Loeb took 8 rallies that year while being out the last 4 rallies (broken shoulder) and won the championship, or that Gronholm had 7 wins and only 1 retire that season and still lost by 1 point.
Or 2009: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_World_Rally_Championship#Drivers.27_championship
Hirvonen has 1 retire and finishes no lower than 3rd in the rest. Loses the championship by 1 point. I still say Citroen paid Latvala off in Poland. :p
As far as this season goes, both Meeke and Latvala have some seriously bad luck. I honestly believe some kind of witchcraft/voodoo is involved. Sweden for example, Ogier has 2 offs, 1 where he hydroplanes on an unexpectedly flooded part of the stage and runs into a bunch of small trees/bushes, comes out unharmed. Mikkelsen also with 2 offs I believe, one of which he smacked a tree stump with the right, rear side of the car quite hard, clips a tree with the front and comes away unscathed besides a torn up front bumper. Meanwhile Meeke and Latvala do nothing out of the ordinary and sustain rally ending damages.

Why would a whole new model need to be done just to change a part or two?
-
Maybe they should get Loeb into the office to test it out and give his feedback. :D

The 208PP? Oh lawd, sub 7min times for Pikes Peak here we come. :| -
For me Finland, next to Germany, are the biggest let downs in the game as far as stages go. Was really looking forward to Finland and after running it quite a bit after it was released, it's meh. There's no flow to the stages. The differences between the real stage and in game combined with v2 physics makes it a jumpfest. If you like it cool, for me it was disappointing.KevM said:Completely disagree. Finland could be different but the driving spirit is spot on. It's a roller coaster and all about finding the line over a series of jumps, I love it!
Sweden, it's one of the most challenging and rewarding locations in the game. So varied, fast & technical. It's awesome!
Wales is just an old classic, great fun to drive. Certain Welsh stages really draw you into pushing the boundaries a little more every time you drive them!
Because of the V2 handling, no 2 runs are ever like-for-like! That's the major success in this game and really gets what Rally is!
Germany was another location I was excited for. Different surface types with different levels of grip, some of it being quite dirty and busted up. In the game, however, other than the cobble stone intersections, there's no difference in grip between surfaces. It's not bumpy or busted up, no slippery corners or bends with dirt strewn over the road.
SLRE is a bad example, the quality of just about every aspect of that game is suspect. So the caliber of stages fits in well with the rest of the game. But, to say there's no middle ground between the SLRE stages and what's in DR is a bit crazy. It's like the people that think the current damage system is good because there's no way to implement proper soft body physics like in BeamNG. Either an all or nothing view, and I don't think that's right. If they were doing exact recreations of the stages, that might be one thing, but they're not. We can see that with Finland. So no, for me, I don't care if they don't get every single, tiny change in road camber correct or even included if it means more unique km. And again, I'd find it hard to believe the only way to achieve that is going to a SLRE level of detail (with the current team/budget).BrySkye said:It's not the first time.
There's only so much that can be streamlined.
The only way to really get it done more quickly, or get more stages done, is to throw more people at it.
The work hours remains the same, but more people gets it done in less time.
That requires a bigger budget though.
Should more quality be lost in favour of quantity?
Well, SLRE made more use of digital/satellite data compared to the CM approach of going through with tape measures etc,.
Based on the reactions of people watching videos and playing the demo, pointing out that those stages are missing significant details (Sweet Lamb water splash), or that the roads are very flat and lacking camber...
Well, draw your own conclusions if that's a price worth paying for sheer milage.
-
Being presumably the first time the devs have tackled stages in this particular manner, I'd hope they learned things as they did each location to make the process more efficient. If not, I do hope they are looking at ways to streamline it. I think even the most diehard "quality over quantity" supporters will only stay onboard for so long. If the process is hindering their ability to deliver more unique KMs, then the process needs to be changed in my opinion. Personally, for all the work they put into the stages, I can't help but feel they missed the mark on at least a few locations as to what makes those particular locations challenging/fun for drivers.

I still hope because of the success they rethink/reconsider DLC. A couple/few more years of maybe quarterly DLC releases with some fixes/tweaks along the way (like a new physics revision). From a lowly player's perspective a couple "issues" that come to mind with the current engine are: stage lengths and replay system.
Would moving onto a new DR title with a new[er] engine guarantee they would change the current replay system and give us a proper one with small demo/replay files that can be saved and viewed at any time? Would it guarantee full stages like Ouninpohja in it's entirety be in the game, and even if they had the ability would they do it? If the answer to those questions is "abso-friggin-lutely!" Then sweet, a new title and engine it is. But, if it's "a possibility", or "maybe", or "we're not 100% sure", then please, please stick to the current game and add more content/features to it.

I think you mean the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2. :Daustinb said:People keep saying the renaults are likely to be added, but didnt we (ages ago) have as good as confirmation that they were planning/hoping to add the Audi Sport Quattro S1 at some point?

Being someone that has no interest what so ever with Gymkhana, I still don't get why Block is hated so much. I've never seen/heard/read an interview of him where he's stated how great he is. He always comes across as an extremely humble and grateful person. And is well aware of the differences between Gymkhana and rallying. I could understand if he was some arrogant little ****, but it doesn't appear to be that way at all.RyuMakkuro said:Basically this. It doesn't really matter whether he will or not win the WRX Championship, but whether he can actually compete. I personally think he can, since even though there are haters of him all around I still find the fact the way he can control cars in the "Gymkhana" to be more than impressive. He just needs to put that car control into getting the cars fast around the track, not around an airfield xD

Ford needs to get off their NASCAR loving asses and get back to WRC so Wilson has some proper backing. Drag racing I can at least understand the attraction of. But for the life of me, I just cannot fathom how NASCAR is as big as it is. NASCAR and Donald Trump, just 2 shining examples of what is very wrong with America.

@KickUp Are stage/map optimizations being looked at (for PC)? I haven't checked other locations, but something doesn't seem right with Germany. I can lower settings in benchmark mode and the numbers will reflect those settings, they'll be higher. Where as in Germany, lowering settings means pretty much the same FPS or even slightly lower. Yes, I'm restarting the game between setting changesKickUp said:We are fixing bugs and we are bringing these together into one big update rather than delivering them in bits and pieces. I understand your frustration but I can assure you that we have not abandoned PC in order to release console.

Oh jesus. It's like being in the twilight zone sometimes. I'm well aware of the possibility hard snowbanks. The problem is the car has the same, exaggerate reaction to the hard snowbanks as it does to banks in Wales. It's not absorbing any of the impact. We know the behavior is wrong as established here:
http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/comment/119327
In contrast, they've done a pretty good job in RX when a car bumps into a wall or barrier, it's absorbing the impact. If they would've combined the "soft" snow behavior of Sweden with the collision behavior from RX for the "hard" snow underneath, it would be perfect. Instead what we have is basically a shallow, soft layer over Wales banks.
-
As I said, yes, there's a soft layer where the car will rebound gently (first video). Just beyond that you have the same exaggerated behavior as in the other locations (second).

Yes, I understand about the banks. Point is the behavior still isn't right on the rally side. Which is why I said hop in RX, you can see there how a car behaves when bumping into something solid.
