Well any other cars driven by Burns or McRae are off the table unless something changed in the last few weeks, so no Legacy, Evo IV, V, Xsara, 206, Fabia or R4 .

That was the line around June or July. Saying that, we're not privy to everything that happens behind the scenes.

I think the DiRT Show made it clear there isn't going to be a more modern hill climb car.  They had one planned, probably the Peugeot 208 T16, but it feel through and that's the main reason why an all-gravel Pikes Peak is happening.

Shame on the timing because I recently got rid of my old original Driving Force Pro, which still worked perfectly fine. Bit old, but imagine it would still work with PC. I'd have given it away.

DirectX 11 has a limited amount of draw calls that can be made at any given time, so that's the most likely cause for the lack of other cars on rally stages. Personally, I think it was a bit more about factoring in the possibility of porting it to consoles and their hardware limitations further down the line.

Yes i know, evereyone wants PvP rally i think, i say that the game is able to put more than one Car in stage, maybe it is not posible because of money The Rallycross tracks are way smaller and put less load on the engine. They've said a couple times the MP rally isn't possible. The cars are also built to cope with multiple cars on track.  ie, there are AI versions of the cars which are rendered at a lower level of detail (most obviously, the windows are opaque, so no interior is rendered)

Let's tamper those Quattro E2 hopes to avoid too much disappointment though. My interpretation of the DiRT Show is that its more likely to be something considered for a future game as DiRT Rally has the Pikes Peak version of the E2 so it wouldn't bring enough diversity, even if that is a very different beast in its own way. As far as the Quattro goes, my own feeling is that if the car is going to represented, it should either be the earliest version which revolutionised rally for ever, or the final E2 which became such an iconic symbol of Group B. Given the Group B line up we have in DiRT Rally, the E2 would have been the best fit, but those are the cards we're dealt with. Of course, part of this could be how easy/difficult it is to source an E2 they could have good access to for source material, especially since they haven't modelled the car since CMR 2005. I imagine they wouldn't want to just chop up the Pikes Peak 3D model. The budget for DiRT Rally is almost certainly a factor in the smaller number of 100% new from scratch cars like the 2001 Focus/Impreza, 037, Ibiza, 306, all the WRX cars, etc.

Yeah, it's just not going to happen beyond live timings. While it's less authentic, you could say it's a more pure way of doing it as other plays will have absolutely no impact on your own results..

Hmm, it's not something I've noticed before. The DLC link on Steam isn't something that's just there for all games, even ones which have it planned. MGS5 only got the DLC link a couple of days before it's DLC was launched. I'd like to think it has meaning, but with it appearing this early it seems more likely to be an error.

Hopefully after finishing EA time DiRT Rally devs will not follow "EA" dlc politics or something. DRally Premium or Season Pass for just 60$  A lot of us here would actually like the game to receive DLC post launch rather than the end of Early Access being the end. People can make their own decisions on whether or not they want to pay for more of something they like.

What do you know, the two new cars from the 2000's have gone into the 2000's class and not into the 2010's one. Who'd have thunk it. =P Have to admit I'm a little bit down that a dedicated car pack is adding less vehicles than the Germany update did, but oh well. Classic case of the hype train getting too much steam for its own good. In truth, the game already has most of what I want, excluding the Celica ST205, Corolla, Quattro E2 and Escudo. Since none of those are likely to happen, I take it for what it is. There's still a good handfull of new features which should make a lot of users happier. The mystery deepens about #thiscar ...Unless Paul was trolling me half a year ago and was referring to #thatcar with updated physics...

Think people are forgetting DiRT Rally is an experiment with a limited budget. One that management have never particularly had a lot of faith in. It was a fight to get DiRT Rally made at all to try and prove a point that people wanted a more simulation orientated rally experience.

I hope that includes the times that were set with Group B cars in today's daily It's complete. Since the cars physics change, the leaderboards for that class are completely reset. No times will remain at all. It happened for the 60's, 70's, 80's RWD and 2010 cars when 0.8 was released.

When it's released, the leaderboards will be reset for Group A, Group B and any other classes that are updated to v2 physics.

Soooo... copy-paste-edit-update then? xD More like Open source file > Update > Compile DiRT 3 doesn't come into it. The model has branched off from the source model stage. 3D models are often made to a high fidelity, then optimised for a game. So even using the same source files, you can end up with a higher polygon count model just by using a higher LOD. So it's more like Source File --> DiRT 3 I V DiRT Rally

Except that's the part which is most factually wrong. None of the 3D models are actually from DiRT 3. They've come from the same source files, which is why there is a certain measure of texture compatibility, but all the 3D models have had changes made to them from DiRT 3, new textures have been mapped and the models then recompiled. Saying the 3D models are from DiRT 3 is suggesting they are an identical copy/paste, which is flat out incorrect. Fiesta and Mini are new models? I cant see any difference, i think that them are the only copy/paste ... DiRT3 Fiesta on the left, DiRT Rally Fiesta on the right. As you can see, lots more textures mapped to the DiRT Rally model. You can't just drop new texture maps and have them applied to a model automatically.  New textures have to be mapped to the model, which then has to be recompiled. To repeat myself none of the models have been taken directly from DiRT 3 and dropped into DiRT Rally. They've all been updated.

The car classes aren't exactly balanced as it is. It's not exactly 'fair' that the Audi Sport Quattro Rallye is up against the Lancia Delta S4 and Peugeot 205 Evo 2, but that's how it is in Group B. The 07 Focus is a car from the 2000s, so it seems pretty obvious where its going to go, balanced or not. The game isn't going to have online multiplayer in rally, so balance doesn't even really matter. That wasn't a split though. Group B RWD was a new class that was introduced with a new achievement (We The Terrors). There's no new achievement, so the 07 Focus is going into an existing class.

I'll eat my hat. Look at any collection of Codies screenshots or trailer videos and you'll see they have always been able to do things with the cameras that we can't.

Don't think it's right for Rally, but I do think there is a place for properly done open world driving games. I loved Test Drive Unlimited 1 & 2, driving around a pretty damn accurate Oahu and Ibiza. Made a playlist of tunes and just cruised around. Problems with Forza Horizon was it was too small an area and it's fictional. An amalgamation of ideas and locations.

Each car class has an achievement linked to completing a championship with it. R4 is definitely the only new car class we are getting this time since we're only getting one new achievement related to car class. If a Xsara or C4 are going in along with the Focus 06, they will be in the 2000 class. It's the only appropriate place. They are 2000 cars. Since we already have an achievement linked to 2000 cars, that seems unlikely. If it was going to be split, we'd know it by another new achievement. A little while back I asked Paul if there were going to be any more cars driven by Richard Burns or Colin McRae.  Unless he was messing with me, there doesn't seem any harm now in saying the answer was a definitive no. So no Xsara and no 206. No McRae R4 either.

If this came true, I would really be happy.  Although and i'll beat the dead horse (now a pulp of flesh) that I would prefer an older Mitsubishi. Hah! f@ck! Nailed it!?  ;) I suspect the whole Citreon+DS slip. Naughty Paul though, circumventing the forums anti-swearing rules! That's against the terms of service. Someone needs to be issued with a warning and a fine. ...Again... *whistles innocently*

Personally I think there are lots of reasons it didn't need a test. Though there are also some reasons why it would have been beneficial since a few of the people in community test continue to suffer from the severe stutters problems in 0.8 that 0.9 will hopefully fix. But who knows? Dunno why you'd be looking forward to 2pm when Paul has very clearly stated its not releasing today.
